Ok!

I'm stupid. Let's get over this.

At some point today, I recieved a link from somebody I know. Without looking too much I clicked on it. Then I was asked the hotmail details, which I gave away (told you I'm stupid, but I've also not slept). Anyhow! A second after I thought I was being stupid and went into hotmail and changed my password.

And now I can't login, or do anything with this e-mail.

the e-mail is nikolasideris@hotmail.com , the general trashcan I use, but still quite useful... :-\

Any ideas?

Can't remember location, and blah blah that MSN keeps asking, so I can't get my password this way, and the damn hotmail will only send a reset password in homail.com account (which guess, what, I can't enter).

I wouldn't mind ditching the account and starting a new one, but I would like to delete all e-mails in there at least, so that they won't be able to read it or something.

Anyways, as I said, any ideas (apart from stop being stupid!)

If someone else has your password, they can also alter your birthdate, location, secret answer and whatnot, so you cannot rely on those to reset your password. Start off by contacting Microsoft. If the account was created in your name, at least providing a scan of your ID would gain you a lot of credibility.

I did contacted them and they came back with generic replies, none of which works, of course. So I e-mailed back and am waiting for the next reply!

I'm just annoyed to how stupid I was! I mean Come ON!

Dont tell me, it was one of thiose "login to see my pics" things?

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Slightly un-related, but I need a reality check on this one -

Recently, I also had a little trouble with an old hotmail account, which I don't really use anymore but whatever. Trying to log in simply didn't work, it didn't recognize the password. So I tried to reset the password.

A couple of minutes later, I actually managed to get in, same old password. Go figure. But I found a new e-mail.

So, they'd sent me a notice, that I should confirm I want to reset my password. They sent it to the adress that I could not get into.

Can they really be that moronic, or was there something I just didn't get?

Nik, if you don't mind never using that account anymore, not to worry, in 60 days' time of not being accessed it will all be deleted anyway.

BTW, since you were sleepy at the time and whatnot... did you consider you might have slightly misspelled the new password, or used capital letters somewhere, and that's why you can't reproduce it?
Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Kneel. Now.

Fee: Sadly it almost was. It was a "login to see my friends", from someone I knew... Like you having me on MSN and I throw you a link.

Stupid! Said so!

Rui: No, but it does pisses me off. All forums I'm in, all college things, everything bounces to the hotmail account, as well as details from various bills paid, booking tickets (and actually one that is due later on for the summer, so anyone reading my account could potentially know when I'll be gone from the house! Which is rather bad!)

So, I don't exactly mind loosing the account, but I'm wondering how dangerous it is really!

And Microsoft has not replied back yet!

Sometimes is good to have more than 1 account just in case something happen. Be careful with links next time even if t hey looks... friendly!

Sometimes the spammers fabricate the address of people you know, or that person you know has a spyware or something. So you should be careful even with the people you trust. My sister got a virus that automatically sends itself to your contacts. I guess I wouldn't be surprised it your email was now used to send further "login to see my friends" messages to people in your contact list.

Nikolas

Now I know.

Problem with the whole situations (still waiting for confirmation from Microsoft, btw and it should be fine), is that if indeed someone has been in my account, he has now information about:
a. all forum I am and passwords (now all changed, so it's fine)
b. flight details with easyjet
c. bill payments with debit cards
d. etc

I am waiting to see if I can confirm movement in the account in the past two days. If not, it's fine, if indeed there's been movement then I might have further trouble!

But, yes, I was just click fast at the time. Didn't think and was totally stupid!

Nikolas

As it appears, Microsoft believed me (after 2 days of Q&A ;D) and they reset my password. Everything seems to be fine. All new e-mails (9) are all unread and I just hope that somebody didn't read the rest, which might have various information.

Thanks all!
