i guess the closest thing on that list to me is "anime fan who insists on subtitles" but that's because i don't speak japanese or like badly dubbed movies, they change dialogue and stuff to match the lip "flapping" or to make it more american...

It's been ages since I've seen anything from Brunching Shuttlecocks.

As you've shown, it was a very funny site (till it closed down).

Frankly, I don't think anyone who uses the term 'Japanimation' deserves to call themselves a geek, yet alone more geeky then those who insist on subtitles (which is the sensible thing to do, and as we all know, only geeks are sensible.).

Also; this is random, isn't it, Flippy?  I remember when this first came on to BS, 'twas ages ago - why bring it up all of a sudden?

Suck it, Wapanese!

earl: A furry is someone is is obsessed with animals or humans with such athromorphic qualities.

They range from the minor fan -- say someone who thinks this looks cool:

Then there are type extreme fans that dress like animals at conventions and dream of humping something like this:

Then there are the kinda furries that I dig:

Everybody knows that the real geeks sit in darkened rooms with their linux machines  ;D

Well, I just started watching anime actively a month ago, and I did use the term japanimation a few times when buying/renting anime, so kill me. I don't care about subtitles, the sound of japanese speech scares me so dubbed all the way.

I go for dubbed/remastered nearly every time.  How could bad lip-synching be more irritating than the words not matching the speech in the slightest and having to read a lengthy speech while missing a nice animation sequence?  Just personal preference, I guess.  Though it is annoying when they dub using horrid actors or use American phrases in place of the originals.  I guess I'm slightly less geeky than BOYD.  :P

Heh, Nice rack  :P.

...
I like Dubbed myself, only because no language sounds cooler then japanease.

I like subbed cause the subtitles are funnier that the dubs.

Not only that, Japanese speech sounds so damn wacky when the characters get super-pissed!

I tried watching Spirited Away subtitled and it killed my ears. Now if I tried watching something that's violence and shouting heavy subtitled my head would probably explode. The speech is just weird and scary and shit.

Well I can't stand dubs (or re-dubs, as far as anime is concerned) full-stop; there are a couple of dubs which do not make me want to tear my ears off (Perfect Blue in particular, up until Mi-Mania showed up; Kite has a good dub, too, although it's not a particularily good show in it's own right; there are no good live-action dubs, barring perhaps Monkey) but for the most I find the original performance much better than the retread.  I also don't have the problem of missing animation, as my eyes usually just need to flick down once or twice per line, and I have pretty good peripheral vision - I rarely miss more than a coupla frames.

If you can read at any decent speed, you never miss anything.

But the greatest strength of dubs lies in the fact that Japanese have the most annoying way of speaking possible. In Japanese you can bear it, but when you hear an American voice which should know better....

And there's a few other things, including western distributors, mainly disney, that change the script too much for a western audience [Disney], and you never know whether the English actors have been directed as to give a different impression to that which was originally intended.

And lastly, since dialogue can often be dreadful, it's nice to have it in a language that other people in the house can't understand, and thus ridicule you for.

It's not to say that I insist on dubs (Perfect Blue's was alright, and I hear good things about the Spirited Away one) , except in the case of Monkey, where there's no point otherwise, but it's a safer option.

Look at live films as well.

Imagine if someone dubbed a Kurosawa film -- they'd be crucified.

I also think it works in opposite was.

On Monster's Inc, there's a multi-language clip and I laughed my arse off watching Mike and Scully talk in badly dubbed Japanese.

Mabye the Japanese laugh the same way when they hear an English dub of an anime.

"Ho, ho, ho! Those crazy Amerikans!"

Also, On my O Brother Where Art Thou DVD, there's multi-laguage support for some European languages -- But it's a pants-wetter watching George Clooney as a chain-gang member speaking fluent italian.
