Title: Get every NES game ever made!
Post by: Barbarian on Tue 30/01/2007 05:31:18
Ok, a bit crazy of a collector this guy... but appearantly he has every NES Nintendo game cartridge ever made in good-to-mint condition. All for sale along with a NES system and a bunch of accessories:
Click Here to see the eBay auction page (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110083483658&indexURL=0&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting)

Or Click here to see a little news blurb about it on Opposable Thumbs. (http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/1/28/6782).

From what I seen (at the time of this posting), the bidding was already up to $25,000 USD. I don't know if I'm more envious or just scratching my head thinking of the obsessiveness and insanity of it all. Probably enviousÃ,  :=

Hmmm when I read it this morning I think it's just about $8000...
And it only ships to US or Canada.

Anyway it's not a big deal here as the NES was never popular, the Famicom was. :=

The problem with him saying they are in great condition is that the batteries used in most of the early cartridges (Legend of Zelda, for example) for save games go dead after about 8 years.  You can replace the battery with some effort (they're $1.50 each!) but still...

The highest it might reach will probably be 50,000. If someone's willing to pay 25,000, there's always someone who'll do a bid war.

Wow, that is really crazy. I also wonder how many of those bids are for real? Best of Luck to the seller, he's gonna be coming into a lotta cash.

$241,800USD? FTW man, FTW?

That's just...beyond...comprehension. Especially considering he doesn't even have Pac-Man! :P

Can anybody loan me $242,000.00. I would appreciate it. Thanks.  :)

I'm glad that I quit Ebay, before i bid on something like that in a drunken state.

edit: this auction still has 4 days left. Who will be the person to bid a million dollars. If that happens i will go over Niagara Falls in a barrel.  :)

Funny, he calculates shipping and handling... but he doesn't calculate that all those games together bought at a yard sale would only go for a combined 38 cents. Or completely free, if you weren't against emulation.

However, domino, can we hold you to that? Because I really wouldn't put it past the confused gamers of the 1980's...

It was something. It's US $20,400.00 now, but I don't really know how this works, this is what I saw

Last night this auction's high bidder was bidding $244,500.00 for this auction. I recieved 294 messages yesturday just because people were curious and wanted to know why it was that high. Even though it would be nice to get that it is not realistic. I appreciate all the encouraging words from fellow Ebayers. After investigating and aggressive contacting was done it was found to be that a group of as much as 22 people scammed / and purposely esculated this auction to amost a quarter million dollars. I write this to warm other sellers to watch carefully for these.

One of the scammers actually emailed me back, and I told them they would remain anonymous, told me - quote: we do not like someone selling all these NES games (670) at once because it takes away from all of us that try and sell them individually for more profit in the long run: - end quote.

So that's the deal. Bit silly and stupid imo. So you can really make false bids with this stupid thing? What's the point then? Bid 20 dollars and when you have to buy it you just say no thank you?

While it didn't seem logical before, this seems even less logical. EBay supposedly whomps the hell out of people who post false bids just as much as they do lousy sellers. You'd think that the people bidding in excess of a quarter million with no intent to pay would get screwed, and, if it's true that they are also legitimate salespeople on EBay, that they would have their sellers license revoked. Last I heard, EBay was very hard on scammers and people just screwing around in order to maintain their image.

All you have to do to make fake bids is to create a bogus e-mail account.  I suppose e-bay will try to hunt you down, but I'm sure there's a way to create the bogus e-mail account and ebay bidding account without someone logging your IP address.

I once tried to sell my truck on ebay, and set the reserve to $14,500 USD.  When the highest bid I could see one hour before ending was $2500 USD, I logged in under my wife's ebay account and bid $14,450 USD just to see what the highest bidder'd max was, and hopefully to get someone to crest the reserve.  Unfortunately, the previous max bid was only $5000 USD, and no one would bite.

I am glad that I can put my barrel away now. I would of done it, if it were legal. Well maybe not, but i could of photoshopped a picture of me going over the Falls in a barrel.  :)

I have MOST of NES games ever made. Atleast, ever sold in Europe and USA. Including Chinese pirate ones.
Maybe even 80-90%. And I got em for free!

I really can't imagine why anyone would spend this much money on ancient games.
Especially if it's like, less than 2 GB of downloading of 128/256KB roms. A simple PC game is larger and harder to get.
