Why does it seem that, if you're female and a hard-core gamer, you have to make a statement about it? It's like mentioning you're engaged in every other sentence. Or reminding everybody you're pregnant. Just imagine all three at the same time!
I have no problem with gamer chicks. Dare I say it's a turn on? I mean, they know how to handle a joystick.
It just annoys me when they get all militant and in yo grill about it. Yes the industry is unbalanced (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/116/1160733p1.html). But why do they need their own dedicated girl-power site (http://girlgamers.co.uk/)? They're only creating more of a gender divide by not integrating with everybody else, and reminding everybody at every opportunity they are a gamer, and a girl!
Game gurlz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJBv-JjKiOI)
I....don't really see this as much of an issue. Then again, I've never met an "in-your-face" militant girl gamer.

This is the same argument that majorities always make against minorities. You can replace gender here with race or ethnicity or whatever you like. They do it because they feel marginalised...
Actually the makers of the site do it to earn some cash.. but the participants do it because they feel marginalised.

Simple: they want to turn you on! :P
But well, as with most things, you hear only the voices of people raising their voice, so when it seems to you like all girl gamers make a big thing out of it, there are probably actually many more that don't care about it and integrate with everybody else, how should they be noticed as non-militant girl gamers?
In the light of centuries female disenfranchisement, I think a site dedicated to girl gamers is less than an overreaction.
Next up for debate: why women comedians aren't funny, or something about parallel parking.
Never understood the phrase"parallel parking". All parking is parallel.. you dont have perpendicular parking because no one would be able to get out afterwards..
Parallel to the road. C'mon, does it need to be explained? :P
My girlfriend's a certified Twitch.tv addict and mentions this a lot, I guess if it boosts the viewer count to have 'Girl Gamer!1!!' as your channel's title you can't really blame them.
You should blame SOCIETY.

why women comedians aren't funny?
Because men don't like to hear jokes about periods, pregnancy tests, weeing and peeing in your panties and shopping. Or cleaning your house in god awful tights, where only the tights seems to be the joke. Yeah, I've seen a couple of episodes of smack the pony.
Aw come on. You have to admit it's kind of cool. :=
Just to be clear, I love women comedians and have no idea what parallel parking is, or how to drive a car.
Smack the Pony was great. And it didn't have many sketches about periods, pregnancy tests, weeing and peeing in your panties or shopping.
My girlfriend is a gamer. She likes to play TF2 and other fine games. There is one reason she doesn't voicechat in games though. http://kotaku.com/5824084/well-thats-one-way-to-combat-misogyny-in-gaming
Some guys are utter douchbags. And in old times a douche was a device for cleaning the lady parts. I guess a douchbag is where you keep the equipment for that.
