Browsing and I ran into this, so funny I had to take a screenshot:

What are the advantages of the Realplayer format again?
You can watch South Park episodes with it ... ? ;)
Free spyware! Yay!

South Park (http://mrtwig.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=899) you say...
RealAlternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm) is the way to go!
Something about realplayer I don't know? I got that purely because loads of things were asking for it whenever I played something off the net.

Oh yeah! I heard about that one... I'll have to check it out.
ManicMatt: Try closing your browser or anything using the internet. Notice that modem activity is still there. :) I had RealPlayer a while back for the same reason as you, but now it's good to hear there's an alternative.
I use realalternative and quicktime alternative, hooray for not having to use the slowest loading program ever which is quicktime!
I believe it's an advantage to it's counterpart the fakeplayer. Which was just spy-ware. I know I much prefer real things to the fake ones.

It's hard not to coop with spywares. The most popular spyware is called Window$ Downgrade. :=

Hey! I got rid of realplayer and installed this alternative and when I click on a sample to play off amazon the classic media player comes up and shows a file to load up and doesn't play it, or appear to even stream it!
HELP me please before I go back to the realplayer!
It says it playing, but it's clearly not.
Sometimes I had the same troubles with MPC. Make sure you have the latest version of Real Alternative, as Real may have changed some stuff.

...And let's not forget how nicely Quicktime rapes the system tray & browser. And how useful the Realplayer "message center" is, with nice ads coming up all the time. Unexpected and wrong time. Like when I play a racing game and this sucker pulls me to desktop just when I'm winning...

I like to use a video convert to convert my .rm files to .avi

I was looking into that conversion thing, but I don't think I ever found something free that could convert .rm to .avi. What do you use?

Oh, yes. There are just too many drivers and other things nowadays that seem to believe they're important enough to have a system tray and an actual message center just for them.
Frankly, half of these applications are designed as if they're the only thing to be installed on the machine.
HP printer drivers, for example. (Ugh!)
