I've been on vacation this past week, and I've seen the all hell had broken loose. I've read a few of these posts, and I guess I've kinda taken it to heart.
I wont be posting (except in tech forums, for when I need help) Until I have more to show on my game. see, I've cranked out a full game, and two demos, but with the exception of TGC, they were crap. I havent done music for anybody, and I've tested one game, and didnt do a great job.
and, I post a lot. I liked the company. but that isnt what this place is about.
I'll be back, but not until I can justify myself. once I get another demo to show you, I will have felt that I have taken the break I needed, and done the work I need, to justify my staying.
no hard feelings. I dont feel unwelcome. I just have some work to do.
Well, if you're currently working on a game you can stay. There's no reason to take off just becuase you haven't immediatly got anything to show.
You feel bad about not having a game!?!?!?! Look at my big list of games! ::) , and I've been here longer that you, I think.
Panda, you've done more than a lot of people here -- there are people who post so damn much even though they haven't even written a game.
However, if you want to leave to work on your game, I can't stop you from that -- but remember that my message was directed at those whole post a shitload without much to show for it in return.
You're ok Panda, but leaving to work on your game can't be a bad idea anyway.. wish I had the self discipline to ;)
Glad to see that you´re encouraged to make games Mr. Panda, but sorry to hear you are going to be absent... Try to come here and talk with us if you have spare time. ;)

Your time is your time, and the time you dedicate to creating, whether it be games, art, learning, whatever, that time will be rewarded.

I'm currently working on 2 games, both of which I fully intend on finishing. But I'm working on them in my own time (when I have the free time) and I'm in no real hurry to finish them. They aren't my life (though I am passionate about them) but I'm not going to rush them, and lower the quality, just to contribute to the community.
However, I'm going to continue posting on these boards (even though I've contributed no full games) because I enjoy posting on these boards. That's the nature of it being a 'community'.
If you've decided to disappear for a bit (because you truely feel it's necessary) power to you, but if you've made this decision because you feel like you're being chased off I would encourage you to stick around.
That's just my two cents!

I don't think you should leave until you have a game made. I think DG meant you should leave if you are planning to just play other peoples games, and just ang aroudn the forums. Its OK if you're MAKING a game.

I too am going to disappear for a while. Not sure how long. The main reason is I'll be completely netless, no phone line. My stupid fault for not paying the bills for either of the two lines I had.
I'll be back before any games are ready, but I will have had time to make some significant advances.
Hopefully, I will be further along in my quest to lose my n00bness. My game developing maidenhood, if you will.

I'm feeling really bad here, because i have been around for a while now (just over 2 years) and I really have nothing to show for it, I don't post a lot, but when I do I hope I'm helping or contributing in some way shape or form.
I feel it's my duty as an oldbie/midbie to actually contribute, so I think I may take a big cut-down from the forums and come back with a fresh new leaf of tutorials and eye candy that have been left unfinished, floating around my computer for ages.

Jeeesh! We need more gen-gen craziness. Everyone is running off to work on projects! This is great! Go Panda, I fully support and encourage your decision (so long as it's for the right reasons, like DarthM said.)
Magintz: Don't feel bad, I don't think that's the point. Just work on stuff because YOU need to. Screw us and our opinions. Do it because it feels really awesome to contribute to this community ;D.
