Title: Great Discovery
Post by: Tuomas on Sat 03/09/2005 14:25:07
I have seen the light! I have found the ultimate solution, so here goes... You know how you hate it when all your socks are dirty or in the washing machine. Then you have nothing to wear and you have to take ones that are all sweaty and smelling. Or you may find a clean, flowery smelling pair of socks and wear them just to realize there's a huge hole in both of them.

I know this happens to you all, I've been there too, and it bugsÃ,  me. But no longer. I've been wearing the same socks now for two weeks. That's right, My granny knitted me a pair of woolly socks. The thing about wool is that they are nice and cozy, soft, and the breathe. And in I keep them during the night too, the keep me warm. And the best thing about it, they never get dirty. The do not absorb sweat or any scents ar normal fabric, the more likely repel all kinds of "unwanted material". You know, you could use them the whole winter, and if they wear off, they are easy to repair.

Why spend all your money on socks and socks and socks, if you could live a happy life with only 1 pair a year? Wool's the answer!

Hmm, are you sure wool is all that? I wouldn't know, that material bothers my skin. I shall stick to cottoney socks.

One thing about wool that may make or break it, is that it's a gateway material- you buy some wool, and it's the whole slippery slope. Next thing you know you're out shoplifting.

But you must sweat and if Ã, wool sock does not absord it,
where all that sweat go?

In our country(Serbia) there is tradition of wearing wool socks. Not ordinary wool socks, we have dosen kinds of wool socks.

But we wear it over the ordinary cotton socks(because of sweat problem) (and it is much better for skin cause cotton is realy cosily).

And it's a part of Serbian folklore!!!!

not very good picture but since we don't have a scanner this is good enough.

You just discover hot water 8) (JOKE)

Hehm sorry to bring it to you dude. But those properties like staying clean and not absorbing odors and the like are properties of almost all new pieces of clothing. After washing it a couple of times they lose these properties.

They'll still feel warm and cozy though  ;D

Thanks for sharing you discovery with us. It has made me think about voicing my ultimate solution to energy shortages.  (Think tonguewarmers)

I have a more non-magical sollution to at least a part of most people's sock-problems - all of my socks are identical. They are all black ordinary cotton socks of the same size, which means that I never have to fear a missing sock after having washed them, since I don't have to pair them afterwards. I just keep them in a big pile and pick two new each morning.

God this reminds me of Einstein, who had a dozen of the same suit, so that he wouldn't spend time choosing, which one to wear.

No to the topic: When I was in the army I had the same socks on for a couple of weeks too. Well the smell was awfull, for everyone in the chamber, and everyone did the same thing, but you know what. With A LOT OF Dioderant (spelling, again), like ADIDAS or AXE or whatever you can do miracles. It works on clothes, and everything else too. The only thing that you have to use baby poweder to your feet so that they don't fall off :-\

Interesting, I do the same thing. I wonder if this is a swedish fenomenon. Allthough my recent purchase of a pair of striped socks, and a pair of green socks with stars make me look kind'a funny a little now and then, as the non-matching socks are quite apparent when a black and a striped sock is drawn from the pile...

I would love to make all my socks exactly identical, but I'm lacking the funds right now.

Good heavens, I'm poor!

All identical socks? What are you thinking? I could not do that, I fear it would subtract from my personality. I have all sorts- black to white, ankle bone to knee, casual to football. Different situations warrant different socks.

EDIT- My sig photo wouldn't work otherwise.

I would get socks all identical... But the problem is that socks here are usually being sold in three colors together. White, grey and black. So whenever I get new socks, I'm forced to have 3 colors. That makes it harder to find a pair later.

I guess when I move out and do my own laundry things are gonna change, but so far I'll have to go on a sock quest every night before school.

I used to have two tpes of socks. Grey ones and white ones. The grey ones were for my school uniform, and since I don't go to school anymore, I only use white socks. Makes things much simpler.

It's the eleventh (11th) day... I started this thread after having worn same socks for a week , of was it too at 3rd of the same month. Now, let's do some statistics...  hmmm, no, don't smell.... hmmm, still in perfect shape, not worn out... haven't even taken them off at nights. Appears I was right... :D

Ehm, people, expecially girls, please don't characterize me on this thread, I do go to shower every morning, and I do use deodorant ;)... and such... brush my teeth and... yeah...

please explain the word "pork". I checked my dictionary, and it said that you meant I was a piece of a little piggy, but with somekind of determination, so? You mean what?

I mean.. Isn't pork a noun?

I do think so, yes.

And, with no offense, if you want to be more lucky with girls (I'm not saying you're not but...) just don't mention you're wearing two weeks dirty socks. ;D

No like I was trying to get any from here... but, heh, they don't notice. I mean, my girlfreind doesn't notice it if I don't tell her. Wah, it's just so great. and no, read before, there are no dirt on them, they don't smell, so why does it make me pork? ::)

only the idea that you have something on you, without washing it, for two weeks (11 days, ok.) does sound gross. And of course, I wouldn't even imagine you searching for a girl through the net declaring: "I change my socks twice a month!"

Pork=pig, in my mind... It is a gag by repetition, no worries, Tuomas.

But please, change your shocks more often.

Pig.

It's alright in Finland, it would never get warm enough to sweat.

Fun Fact - English has it's words for the meat of an animal derived from the latin roots, e.g porcus or the french mouton for pork and mutton respectively, since the french speaking Normans were eating the animal whilst the Anglo Saxons were raising it.
Amaze your friends with etymological wonders.

Damn it! So comes my experiment to an end... I accidentaly kicked over my trashcan, and now I've got gum stuck on my sock >:( ahh, bugger, I wanted to wear them until they wear out! well, it was interesting while it lasted.

"Interesting" is certainly a word for it. If you're feeling generous. If not, there's a whole myriad of words just waiting to be used.

It's hardly a revolutionary idea. Sheep wear wool coats for years, and they don't smell bad.

But... sheep have bare feet!!! So either they don't need socks as we do or they're just plain stupid, which I doubt...

So, is it not a good idea to satisfy the need of something on your foot with the cozy warm feeling presented to us by the sheep!?! The idea my friend didn't come from the sheep...
