Title: GTA V
Post by: Peder 🚀 on Sat 14/09/2013 01:36:46
Anyone else getting GTA V? :).

If yes and you're getting it for the PS3 please add me on PSN: Arnjeir and let's have some fun in GTA Online once it's released on 1st of October! :).

I got GTA IV the day it was released- I had it pre-ordered and all I had to do was walk to the local BlockBuster store to pick it up first thing in the morning. What a great day that was- girlfriend at work all day, me- curtains pulled shut, coffee and pizza on the table, I played for a good 8 hours...;)

It was a hell of a game!

Now, when I think about GTA V coming out soon, I imagine how different my gaming habits/circumstances are. My little son would sure love to watch daddy play a game about driving cool cars over innocent pedestrians and shooting guns and such, but there is no way I'm gonna let him see that. So that means I can't play in the daytime. Nightime? -I can already hear my girlfriend say: I wanna watch the TV. Turn it off.

Growing up brings certain problems...

BUT- I am still getting it. Maybe not on the release day, maybe I won't be on it any time I'd want to... But there's time for the family, and every now and then there's time just for me, too;) I guess there's nothign wrong with that. And yes, it will be a PS3 version, so I might look you up;)

I played every single GTA game but to be honest I much preferred Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. I will be getting GTA V though (on PS3), and give it a try. Maybe this will be GTA game that I'll actually manage to finish. :)

I've only completed Vice City, actually.  And yes, I used cheat codes.  :-D

I think I may also prefer Red Dead Redemption, despite being a fan of the GTA series since the beginning.  I remember when I first played GTA3, it blew me away.  I never imagined the game being as much fun.  I've gotten every main series GTA game to date, and this will be no exception, although I doubt I'll get it when it comes out due to money issues.  I will be getting it for my XBOX, though, and I don't have a subscription to play online.  I wish I did, because I've wanted to play multiplayer like that for a long time now.

I keep forgetting to order it! I don't spend near as much time playing games as I did when I was younger. But when the new GTA, MGS, or Final Fantasy come out, It's kind of a special event for me.

I'm on PSN as Oldschool_Wolf, if anyone wants to add me.

Stupid Xbox Gold memberships! I don't use my Xbox anymore, and in fact I've really barely used it ever since I bought it.. Shame PS4 is going the same route too with requiring a membership to play games online when most of the games most likely won't even use Sony servers....

Last time I used gamepad was about 15 years ago. I don't even know how one should aim in 3d space with this thing. :)

The idiots over at vgreleases.com had a confirmed release date for PC on Sep 17. I was getting all giddy until I learned that no, once again Rockstar will probably keep teasing PC players for months.
My flatmate does have a PS3 though, so maybe I will be playing it sooner than expected.

Btw, getting a wireless xbox360 pad for my PC was probably the best investment in months.

I remember reading somewhere that the clans carry over, rockstar stated it fairly early on if I'm not mistaken.

I just picked up my copy, even the police turned up for the midnight launch, it was all very convincing! :p

Went ahead and bought it, played for an hour, I'll play some more tonight. My psn name is khrismuc.
Great so far, the small details are incredible. If people are talking while driving and you hit something, they'll stop mid-sentence, exclaim, then continue where they left off, but going back to the beginning of the current part of the sentence.

  I'm reading some awesome reviews, and insane stories from players.  Naturally I have a PC and a Wii U and can't play :-[

  I really liked Vice City, but haven't bothered with the series since then until hearing about GTA 5.

Already playing. Nice graphics and the game runs super smooth but nothing jaw dropping so far. Strip clubs are great though :-D

Booking this week off work was a terrible idea! I've been glued to it all day, not quite confident enough to invest in the stock market yet :-D

I did however run out of cheese straws and wine, now fully restocked and back in the game.

lol Chicky :P.

I've done some investments, but it's pretty confusing atm how to actually make money out of it successfully besides when you do specific missions related to the market, which really is the only time you'll probably make huge investments.
Can't wait to see how this will all work in the online version :D.

Oldschool_Wolf, I'm in a really uninspiring/bored phase so I've more or less taken a break from everything and just been spending time on GTA V :P.
The punch button after jumping is hilarious, I seen someone mention it on Facebook..

I'm looking forward to see the online too! Hopefully it won't be too buggy at start.. They've had a lot of issues with their current online services after the launch :O, but seems everything is starting to get back to normal now.. (Issues with socialclub, the iFruit app etc).

Finally got my custom plates http://rsg.ms/16VUFOp :D.
(You get it by using the Fruit app, however I've tried to do this since the 17th, and it only finally worked today after last having "sent the order" a couple days ago.

[EDIT]
Since I've already double posted I don't want to also triple post :O, so I'm editing this message instead..

Just a note to everyone, once you have a lot of cash, Ammu-Nation (AMU) seems to be a solid investment.
I've invested ~$20m with each character yesterday and already the shares are worth enough to pay me back ~$120k.
It seems like it's going upwards steadily every day.

Did you try to invest in this cigarette company before assassinating it's board of directors members? I wanted to but forgot the name of the company after the dialog preceding the mission :-/ The mission itself was time based so I had to skip ir. :-\

Anyone managed to get online yet? I've managed to get as far as making a character, can't do anything else.

The character creation screen is the most unusual one I've ever come across. I managed to create someone who looked a little like me.

I got in earlier in the day yesterday, but then it started messing up etc.. I've lost my characters many times, once suddenly had a character appear that I never even made etc. I've kept and lost my money only to last time I tried seemed to have got it back again... Anyway, I don't think I will try again until next week now (unless reports starts coming in that it's finally working more smoothly). I got work to do anyway, and a move to prepare for in less than 2 months.

I got to create a character and finish a mission with some shooting and a delivery. It was me and three other guys. It did restart from the beginning after a minute though, but otherwise ran relatively smooth. The service is still completely overrun I guess, and I got logged out of the PSN suddenly.
At least you can switch between Online and Story mode quickly.

Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: Gribbler on Fri 04/10/2013 14:06:47
I don't have enough time to play online. I'm still playing single and I must say that I don't find the experience that much compelling (I played ALL Grand Theft Auto games, mind you). I loved the story of Nico in GTA IV, I loved how he dived deeper and deeper into the world of crime with each mission. His first missions were "protection" of a restaurant and extortion. In GTA San Andreas your first mission was to steal a bike. And in GTA V Franklin's first mission is to annihilate entire gang, with exploding cars and whatnot. He's some car collector working for the car dealer and yet he kills dozens of people without blinking an eye. It's terribly unbalanced and unrealistic. There's no real character development, all characters are just flat cliche criminals and one redneck psychopath - who gets boring after 1h and you're just tired of his constant shouting and screaming.

For me, the game lacks a McGuffin. Nothing really drives the story forward. You just do heist after heist. I don't know, I played sooo many games in my life that shooting and driving just "for fun" isn't enough for me anymore. I need an interesting story.

I didn't finish GTA IV because I found motorcycle missions to hard. I loved the game though. I cared for Nico. I wanted to know how his story ends. Did he find that Serbian guy he was after? Probably. What will happen with Franklin, Trevor and Michael? I just don't give a damn...
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: Retro Wolf on Fri 04/10/2013 16:53:22
@Gribbler CAR GO BOOM!
But seriously, perhaps the problem with the story is that there's three main characters. The character switching is a game mechanic I love, but there's not as much time for each character's story to develop, as perhaps previous games might have. Franklin is the least developed character of the three I've found.

Having said that I'm really enjoying the game, and looking forward to the online part!

After watching some "funny" GtaV videos:

- you can have electroshokker;
- you can use fuel canister to spill fuel and then ignite;
- you can fly the blimp;
- you can drive bulldozer;

Heheheh, I want this game :)

Well my online character's just been deleted so I think I'll wait until this issue has been sorted out before I play again. I don't fancy playing Russian roulette with my character progress every time I log on.

Post by: Peder 🚀 on Sun 06/10/2013 21:28:07
I've lost mine several times, but after the last title update it's only gone "missing" ending up coming back.
But ever since they launched the online features on the socialclub website it's always been visible there even if it's not visible in-game...

A friend of mine sadly lost his too, and his character is not actually visible on the socialclub website, so if it's gone there it might be fully gone :-/...
It's a shame... It will surely put a lot of people off from playing...

http://guardianlv.com/2013/10/gta-v-online-multiplayer-lost-characters-could-be-players-fault/

Having to follow these guidelines is a bit ridiculous. I lost my character when the game siezed up on me, so even if you follow these rules, there's still a chance you're screwed.
Title: Re: GTA V

It should autosave now and then like singleplayer, to avoid some of this..
Also that everything is stored in the cloud and apparently NOTHING at all offline locally is strange to me. They should store some basic info offline, so if the cloud IS unavailable at least people will know their account is still there, than if the cloud is not available and your character doesn't show up because of it..
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: Retro Wolf on Tue 15/10/2013 18:49:32
Issues seem to be fixed now, I'm having a good time.

Only problems I have with the game:
- Death is expensive.
- If you're playing with friends, it seems to place you in different sessions sometimes.
- It can be a bit of a grind.
- World does not feel as alive as offline.
- Everyone else seems to be a better shot than me. :)

Not that I'm complaining, it's a really enjoyable experience. If you thought the main game was not very challenging, online certainly is.

Silly Grand Theft Auto III speedruns made me want to replay the game again, at 99%, thinking of playing Liberty City Stories next.

BTW, I wanted to know, in Grand Theft Auto V, these missions that seems to require multiple players acting simultaneously, how is that handled in single player? Are the other two guys handled by the AI? Or is there a "switch to character in trouble" button? Or are those missions locked when you're in single player mode?
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: nihilyst on Wed 16/10/2013 08:41:10
The other two guys are handled by the AI, and when the AI sucks or you have to do a task that only one character can do, you receive a notification to switch.

That's nothing to worry about. Just remove Gangster and Thug from those names and you'll be fine! :)

Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: Crimson Wizard on Wed 23/10/2013 08:46:15
I am judging only by game videos on youtube, but I am coming to conclusion that Trevor is a personification of an average GTA player :D

Seriously, this is the first playable character, since GTA3 at least, who genuinely fits in the gameplay. You can barely imagine Michael or Franklin (or any other previous GTA character) do all the crazy stuff people usually do in GTA, but Trevor looks natural regardless of how insane it is.

If we continue this sort of comparison, than Michael is a former GTA player who was going to stop playing those mindless video games and spend time on a family, but he is so hooked, that something drags him back all the time.
Yet, he wants to do things seriously and well-planned, while Trevor is a "player" who "plays" for fun. Hence the conflict.

I kind of suspect that Rockstar trolls its users, in a way :).
