I just want to cut the first 3 or 4 seconds out of a midi file. What should I do? Is there any good, free program to do it?

This is a cool free program that you can do exactly that

Anvil studio

to cut up a midi using it, you choose a point in the midi and can truncate from that point to the end, or that point to the beginning.

That's the only way I could figure out how to use the program for that

I'd recommend cakewalk, but then again, I always do. You can probably download version 3.0 or something (circa 1992) from somewhere on the net, it'll allow you to mercilessly edit your MIDI. No problem.

Thanks both. Anvil studio certainly works for me. I'll have a look at the other one now.

One comment I have is that with corrupted midi files, cakewalk seems to do a bit better.  It will attempt to fix it most of the time and allow you to load it regardless.  Anvil Studio has an upper hand by being free, but I tried to edit a midi that played fine only to have no accessibility in Anvil Studio with it.
