Without having to sign subscriptions of course. Is there some sort of site that I can upload a song to and have it sent to my phone? I don't have the USB cable to do it myself.
I've been curious about this for a long time. I was just listening to Willy Beamish songs and clicked on the "Send this to your cell phone!!1!!11" link and I followed the steps. All of a sudden I'm getting charged $10.00 a month for 15 ringtones and the Willy Beamish songs are nowhere to be found. Heh. Lesson learned.
So, is there a way to do this without getting porked up the ass?
I use tindeck.
Steps:
- process the audio you want for the phone (shorten, compress, whatever)
- save with an easy name, such as adgjadgj.mp3
- upload to tindeck
- copy link location and paste it into notepad or something
- use the phones browser and tap in the url (by hand, I know it's a chore)
I recently did it and tapped the address http://www.tindeck.com/download/47b69d54756026e56b5e64a41feb558e/jtze/ytpup.mp3 into my phone browser. It was a real chore but it got the job done.
Ah, crap, sounds great. Unfortunately I don't have access to the net through my phone.
Thanks anyway :)
...Bluetooth?
Ask a friend-whoever who has neater phone to aquire song however (s)he could (USB, net, whatever) and bluetooth it over to yours.
Also, what phone are we speaking about? Mine has also M2 memory card, which - packed into plastic "enlarger" adapter - I can actually plug right into my card reader on computer
Ah... I don't know how to describe it. It's just a plain old regular cell phone. Nothing special. Nothing cool on it, no ringy-dings or dingy-doos. Just a plain old phone. I can send a recieve txt messeges, but I can't access the net through it... although the net can access my phone. It's got a miniSD slot in it, but I don't have one of those, nor an adapter for the regular ones if I did.
Anyway, if there's no way other than a friend, than ok. It's not a big deal anyway. I'm just curious if there were any free sites out there that I could upload a midi to and they could send it to my phone.

If you set up a tinyurl (http://tinyurl.com/) for that link, you can save yourself heaps of time :)
What kind of phone is it? Brand? Model number. All of this helps.
The most common way is bluetooth, usb or minisd card. Does your phone have storage or does it need to use a memory card to save ringtones and what not?
Playing songs on your mobile is overrated Snake!
Get a pocket accordion!
I used to have that problem; I've tried two usb cables and the connection still doesn't work, even though it used to. I quickly realized that the memory card of my mobile phone was compatible to that of my digital camera. So, now I am using my memory card and digital camera as a medium to transfer things from or to my phone.

D'oh! *slaps forehead* Thanks. I should have thought of that before.
If you have bluetooth on your phone and computer just use that :P.
You can't access the net because your phone doesn't support it or because the settings haven't been set?
Yep, all options have been covered. Basically if your phone can't download URLs or doesn't have Bluetooth, you simply won't be able to do transfer files without a cable.
But seriously, ditch your old phone and get one with Bluetooth, and buy a dongle, shouldn't be more than $20. Then download BlueSoliel and voila, easy peasy file transfer without a cable! I'd choose the latter over downloading URLs, because, in my experience, net settings have to be constantly updated and even go out of date and can't be used on older phones, a problem I've suffered a couple of times - the hassle and call centre charge just isn't worth it, but a dongle definitely is :)
Bah. I don't need to upgrade anything just so I can get songs. It's a phone. I use it as a phone and that's it. I don't need or want anything fancy. I have better ways to use my time (AGS).
I was just curious because I wanted to put a Willy Beamish song on it for the hell of it... probably wouldn't even use it ;)

Not entirely sure if it's different where you're from, but in all my years of cellphone internetting I've never had to update my internets settings.
Fair enough, I have, and it's a bitch. But to be honest, that was at a time (in the UK) when just about all phones ran on hardware and not via software/Java like they all seem to do now, and again to be fair, when I first bought a mobile, internet wasn't available on any of them, nor WAP, and they were bricks!
Snake, hehe, thats fine. I'd rather pay £20 for a phone that can call people AND play some music rather than £20 for a phone that is just a phone and £99 for an iPod which is just a music player. Or £200 for an iPhone which is a glorified both of the above :P
Oh and check out this classic Chris Jones quote :D
"In my day, phones only had two buttons - CJ"
Heh - I miss those phones.
I like things simple. I don't need all those things that come with "phones" now days. It's like paying for 115+ stations when I only watch about 6 of them.
The phone I got was actually only about $10. I've also got the simplest plan they offered.
I'm simple.
