Help me to identify this music

I have been saving this piece of music on tape for a long long time now.
It is something they played in the radio in the late 80's / beginning of the 90's.
My older sister pressed the record button after the music had been playing for nearly 15 minutes, and got the rest of it on tape, but not enough to identify who the artist was.
I kept it in all these years because someday I hope I'll discover the origin of the music. But without a name, year or even a genre where would I begin to look?!

Today, I finally got the oppotunity to transfer my old tapes to the PC.
So this is where I hope someone out there could help me. Perhaps you recognice this piece of music or have suggestions on where to ask for help. I would be very grateful if you'd listen to it.

There is nearly 30 minutes of music and it sounds like there is more to it. It doesn't seem to end.

If you have any clue what this is, please do tell me. You are also free to spread the link if you know a person who might know what this is.

EDIT: I've uploaded the file in wav format as well. You can download it here: http://www.blueangel.dk/musik/whatisthis.wav

UPDATE: The year this was recorded was 92 or 93 according to my sister. She also informed me that is was most likely a live mix in the studio. So that means there is no cd to look after.
But I am still very interessted in the names of each of the tracks!

Below is the names of the discovered tracks so far:
00:00 - 01:35 -  IO - libre (andrea parker remix)
01:36 - 06:58 - Unknown
06:59 - 12:01 - Unknown - But sounds a lot like Liquid Liquid - Cavern. Perhaps a special mix?
12:02 - 17:46 - Octaves/Tremolo's - Spike
17:48 - 25:05 - Model 500 - The Flow (Underworld Mix)
25:06 - 26:07 - Unknown

Interesting. What you've picked up here is an encrypted alien transmission that found its way through the ionosphere. Your best bet is to contact someone within Area 51 and they'll be able to decode it for you. ;)

Seriously, there's a program for the iPhone that you hold up to the music and it searches a huge database, and matches the pitch and rhythm etc to find the music. Particularly useful for things like your alien transmission, but then again I doubt it'll be able to recognise it.

It's called Shazam if you'd like to give it a try, it's a free app from here (the app at the bottom). Other than that I'm stumped. It's a pretty strange track.

I don't own an iPhone, but there are similar programs for Sony Ericsson phones I've tried with no result.
I you have an iPhone or have the opportunity to use Shazam with this music, or even know someone who can, please try.

I didn't listen to the whole mp3 but there is a possibility that it's just a mix of electronic music cross faded together for a half hour.

There are sites online where you can upload parts of a song and it will try and identify it for you

http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/identifyus/

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/identify-the-title-of-that-song-with-tunatic/

It being random electronic music might be impossible to identify it. It could be just local stuff someone made and got a radio slot to play it on.

You're right. That seems to be the issue here.

Tunatic have a lot of problems identifying this music. So I just made it search from different places in the music file. - ONE tune is now identified!! It is called Model 500 - The Flow and is a remix by some band called Underworld. Their music genre is Electronica / House so now we're getting somewhere.

Now I "just" need to discover the Mixed Album this tune is a part of. Any ideas?

There are several remix CD's where this track appears on. Have a look at Discogs. Maybe that will help you further.

Thanks Leon. I followed your link and clicked every single link. Found the correct track on two cd's, but none of the other tracks matches my mp3. If only I knew the names of the other tracks on the mp3, this would be a lot easier.

If it was a remix CD it would most probably be this one, disk 1. but I doubt that, it sound more like a "mix set" like a "BBC Essential mix" for example. Need just 1 or 2 more song names indeed...

Yes. It is odd that Tunatic can identify only one of the tunes but none of the others..

#11
probably because the mp3 is a very bad quality plus I guess it's a mix, not an album or remix album but a live set.
When I use Tunatic, I get a "signal is to weak" message...
How come it works for you? I have a JVC boomblaster on the floor connected to my pc and using the Stereo-mix option.

Oh, well I didn't use this mp3 with Tunatic. When I was done transfering the tape to the PC I saved it as a wav file, and it is this file I used with Tunatic. But of course the tape itself is in a poor state, being played over and over again for years and then tucked away in a box until yesterday. I'm lucky the tape didn't break or I would never be able to find the music again. At least I have a tiny hope as it is now.

Is there a way you can upload that wav?
Or is the filesize to big to upload?
I f had that wav, I could use it with the kablam app on the iphone to let it be detected...

I don't know if the wav helps. I can hardly hear the difference between them.
But I'm uploading it anyway now. It may take a while, but I'll be sure to post the link here when the upload is done.

Alright. Transfer is complete.
You can download the wav file here: http://www.blueangel.dk/musik/whatisthis.wav

Just trying to help but... can you remember which show it was you recorded? Or from what station? Did you listen to the same one/a specific one in those days? These shows sometimes have archives you can check or some fans keeping record of what was played. Especially when it were live mixes (at least in Holland it was, with Ben Liebrand in Curry and Van Inkel).

I appreciate your help Leon. I have also thought about the radio station archives.
It was not me, but my sister who recorded the music. She doesn't remember which channel it was, but she does remember recording it. I happended to be in her room that evening it was played, but I was below the age of 10, and I didn't pay much attention to what the lady in the radio said after playing this music.. And neither did my sister.
There are not really that many radiostations in Denmark you can listen to, if you live in a smaller town, so I guess that cuts the options down to one, maybe two radiostations I could try to contact as a last resort.
But without a show name or a year, they will have to to through a huge amount of tracks, so I doubt they are willing to do this.

1993/1994? that's odd, because
"Model 500 - The Flow (Underworld MK 1 Mix)" or
"Model 500 - The Flow (Underworld MK 2 Mix)" or even
"Model 500 - The Flow (Original Mix)"
have been released in 1995...

So, or your sister is wrong or that music app 'Tunatic' didn't catch it properly...
