Title: Here's webspace to upload your games
Post by: InCreator on Mon 13/06/2005 07:06:29
Well, for $2 a month I have 1GB free webspace and a domain name with .pri.ee ending. 100Mbit connection, and works fine.
No ads, no lag, no problems.
I really don't need that much...

Now, seeing many unlucky AGSers using insane crap like freewebs and geocities, etc, I thought that if anyone needs a host for a game, I could happily host it. Hm... Let's say - as long as its size doesn't exceed 50MB (unless there's a good reason for it ;) ).

You may always make homepage to game wherever, but downloading should be reliable and fast. This is where I think I can help...

Only problem is how to upload it?
I'm restricted to only 1 FTP client, so I can't make extra user to domain.

Also, I couldn't find any free & working PHP scripts to make such upload page as 2dadventure has... and I'm way too lousy when it comes to php/MySQL coding to make one myself.

So if anyone could give a hand with uploading script, I could spare some space.

If anyone needs it, after all.

Great contribution :)

I'd help out with the script, but right now I'm a bit tied down... But there are loads of people who actually know PHP around too, someone is bound to come by and help you out ;)

I am using a place called http://www.50webs.com

It gives you 100MB, no adds, no garbage. But your files cannot exceed 300kb. So it's not the perfect choice for an AGSer. its enough for me. i will probably make an account to one of those i-drive for big files. oh and a 10GB/month bandwith.

see mom http://fanton.50webs.com, no adds!

Okay, after lottsa trying, studying other scripts and stuff, I've managed to finish my uploader. (It's very n00b yet, but works)

You're welcome!
Now, how could I make this available to needers?

a great uploader is iMesh. it's P2P, but they welcome freeware as well.

Very nice! You may want to make sure that uploading larger (over 3 megs) files will work... sometimes the standard PHP upload commands don't work, it's weird. If it turns out it doesn't work, I've heard of ways around it.

Erm, did you read the thread?

Increator, nice one, I think there is a way to check the filesize before its uploaded and present the user with an error if it is too large, I will look into it when I get home from college.
