I like stereograms, but shouldn't the left and right pic slightly differ from one another?

Icey

Yes. I really didn't notice that until I work on the kuma story pic.

Making a monochrome game that uses red and blue glasses should be possible with AGS I imagine. And some of the new high def Television screens supposedly support 3D, But when I watched Avatar on my HD LCD screen it looked 2D to me, even with the polarized glasses. Think the whole LCD tech is overrated if you ask me, haven't seen those LED screens yet.

thecatamites has already done this. It's called Veggie Tales 3D:

Can someone please explain what's going on/how this thing works? I'm really confused... I can't see any of this supposed '3D' stuff...

ThreeOhFour

This seems to be an attempt at a Stereoscopic version of AGS screenshots. I believe the basic premise is to take two very similar pictures whose only difference is a slight offset in the camera's position and combine the two so that one tricks one's eyes into seeing a 3d image. My guess is that it is quite similar to how we perceive 3d environments even though our eyes are only capable of processing 2d images by combining the offset images from both of our eyes.

Sometimes it takes a while to trick your eyes into perceiving the images correctly, however in this case I wasn't able to get the 3d illusion from the images presented. This may mean nothing, however, as I've also been unable to correctly perceive the illusion in various examples presented in illusion books and the like.

So far, the most effective example of the effect that I have encountered of this illusion has been in the album booklet for the Tool album 10,000 Days (More info on this booklet can be found in the article there). The effect, when executed well, is really rather impressive.

You're guys are doin it wrong!!1

He prefers to be called Lord Benjamin, Emperor of Aristries. :=

Also, I can't get these images to work for me. If I try and focus on the images too much then my eyes go back straight..but if I don't then I just see two images only partially overlapping each other..which I suppose could resolve into a 3D effect if they were closer together..but..for me they remain too far apart. Prolly the widescreen monitor. Hah.

This cross-eye 3D thing doesn't seem to be working for me either, that and the fact that I don't really like to cross my eyes, it hurts fast. I also already have a very slight cross-eye on my right one (could just be me being paranoid though and thinking that it's uneven, either way) I don't want it to get worse.

Yes, there should come a point where they blend together and create a third image.. and then you don't really have to do anything to keep that image visible.

It always works without problems for me, but like vertigoaddict I'm a bit paranoid when crossing my eyes for more than a few seconds, so I usually avoid doing that.

Icey

So let me get this straight. So this 3d effects bothers some peoples eyes faster then it does some other people? It doesn't bother me until I tilt my head like an iphone, then I have to lock out picture so I don't hurt my eyes.

The key to making this work is to move the pictures closer to each other. It's really hard if not impossible for many people to make the images overlap if the distance between the two versions of an object is bigger than the distance of the eyes.

When the images overlap, the eyes are actually less cross-eyed than right now as you are reading this. You're simply focusing on something farther away than the screen.

Icey:
What I find amazing though is that you had no clue about the underlying principle of the 3D effect when you put your not-completed non-game in the Completed games forum.

No I know a lot about this 3d effect and what you said is what I did. But I put the img's further away not closer.

Aye, you put shit in the DB again. WHY!

And PS. Color offsetting is a far better way to achieve "depth of field" 3D, but requires the glasses.
