Hobo With A Shotgun is coming very soon now. And I have to say I'm really impressed by the 70s/8os lighting/music/cheese style of the trailer and the lovely featurette with Hauer and the director:

Nevertheless, this film begs a similar question as the Sucker Punch one:
"Will the storytelling be as deep as its exterior is stylized for fans of cheesy B-movies?"
Also, who would win in a hobo duel: Rutger Hauer or Jack of Avalon?
Perhaps someone here has their own thoughts on these topics?
I'm kind of bummed (pun!) that they didn't get the guy from the original short to be the hobo for this. He was just so damn lovable and crazy. "We're taking a car ride to hell... And you're riding shotgun!"
Also, I didn't find Sucker Punch to be a disaster. I actually kind of liked it. But then again, I also like Streets of Fire, so make of that what you will. ;)
I just saw the trailer myself - looks like I'll be back in the UK just in time for its opening!
I'd never have thought it was Rutger Hauer as the hobo though, whenever I picture him mentally, he's a whole lot more...athletic. I guess Blade Runner left a big influence!

It IS out. Has been showing to limited screenings in Canada for a week or so now.
It's getting great reviews at the horror/exploitation forums I frequent. Alas, I'm in the US and haven't had the chance to see it yet.
It's interesting how movies with rutger hauer* generally suck really hard but how he still somehow makes them utterly epicly awesome to watch. This looks like yet another one of those movies.
* I am of course not counting BR as one of those as it (as we surely all know) happens to be one of the best movies ever produced.

Comes out in the UK on the 22nd of July, and in the Netherlands on the 19th of May (! How on Earth do the Dutch get Hobo With a Shotgun first?!)
Rutger Hauer is awesome so Hobo with a Shotgun will be awesome.

Maybe it has something to do with Hauer being a Dutchie himself? ;)
I'm actually a little excited about seeing this as it takes me back to the old Troma B-Movie days with that gritty environment exploiting tons of over-the-top violence and dark comedy. I never expected to see Roy Batty on the big screen as a hobo. It's refreshing. I love the title of the movie too. I don't expect a deep story by any means, but I do know from seeing the trailer that there's some proverbial dialogue for Rutger's character. I love it.
Just watched it.
It was ok. A good homage to the 80s exploitation films, but don't go in expecting anything more. It's pretty much what the title suggests :P
IMO Machete was a lot better!
It was great. Ending no so much, but I was expecting it based on the rest of the film, which is designed to basically do everything you think it won't.

I like the sound of that.
Now this is a flick that fully understands its style and genre. I hesitate calling something so utterly sick and disgusting a great movie, but whereas Machete, Death Proof and Planet Terror had scenes (and special effects) that didn't belong into a grindhouse flick at all, Hobo with a Shotgun is a perfect tribute.
Excellent use of Rutger Hauer - his expressive face in particular, but they've also given him several great "soliloquies" for which he (I'm guessing) improvises some of his lines. Those are really fun and fortunately don't come off as a parodies of that one scene in Blade Runner. Despite all the silliness, it's somehow the best Hauer role in years!
The ending while sort of to be expected seemed perfectly fitting to me and I wouldn't want it to end differently.
