Thanks to everyone who chimed in before. I think I've finalised my plans. hoping to book it all tomorrow afternoon.

Dates are in September.
Saturday 15th
Fly London to Helsinki. Afternoon in Helsinki.
Sunday 16th
Whole day in Helsinki.
Monday 17th
Morning and afternoon in Helsinki. Ferry to Stockholm (leaves at 17:30) <- cheaper than flying and includes a nights accommodation.
Tuesday 18th
Arrive about 09:30. Whole day in Stockholm.
Wednesday 19th
Whole day in Stockholm.
Thursday 20th
Morning in Stockholm. Evening train to Oslo. Night out in Oslo (or straight to bed).
Friday 21st
Whole day in Oslo.
Saturday 22nd
Whole day in Oslo.
Sunday 23rd
Morning in Oslo. Fly home early afternoon.

TL;DR
Helsinki: About 2 days. Ferry to Stockholm.
Stockholm: About 2.5 days. Train to Oslo.
Oslo: About 2.5 Days.

So whadda'ya think? :D

I know I'm not going to be able to see everything, but with work and money I only have the 9 days. I could probably spend a lifetime in each city alone but thought this would give me a nice Scandinavian taster.

Hoping the ferry won't be too bad but it's looking the most economical way to travel and with me *hopefully* sleeping through the night it'll save on having to pay for a nights sleep. If I fly I'll still lost out on that evening with getting to and from the airport and the flight itself.

If anyone has anything to add in I'd really appreciate it before I book it.

p.s. If anyone can offer me a couch to sleep on for any of the nights of the trip, I'd love you forever XD

Have a mobile AGS mittens trip! There're loads of AGSers I'm sure you know in Finland (and if you don't know them, you can get to know them :D), as well as Sweden. Andail is in Gothenberg, who I am being presumptious in assuming you can meet (he wasn't there when I was, so I couldn't be as presumptious :( ). There is Inkoddi in the far north, but that'd probably not fit into your schedule. And....I can't think of who else.

Oh, Magintz and I already met last time he was in Gothenburg, and, well... I'd rather not talk about it.

As for doing two cities in one day, don't. It'll just make you stressed. Pick one and read up on some good sights, and you can also get some good advice here on what to see and not. Personally I'd give priority to Stockholm and Copenhagen before both Malmö and Gothenburg, especially as you've done the latter.

I haven't been to Scandinavia (YET) but I have been on similar multicountry/multicity trips, but I've mostly been with a car, and that helped a lot, because not only are you able to go exactly where you want, you can visit places you want much more quickly. Just to mention, I've been with people who are really fast at sight seeing and we do have a schedule that we try to follow.

In my experience, especially if it's a city with more than a few thousand people, you'll not enjoy a 1 day trip, there's just too much to see and you lose too much time on traveling between them, which you'll just do "nothing", yes it'll be an experience, but it'll get boring especially if you're going solo.
Yes, it sounds good on paper, but in reality you lose a lot of time (and I'm talking hours) between sites and even when you're there (like a park or a museum, you lose more than you thought.

I'd advise that you drop Gotenburg and even Copenhagen (unless you really want to go to Legoland  ) and divide those 4 days among other cities or something similar if you already have a flight going from Copenhagen. Even then it'll be tiresome, but it'll be better. Save Copenhagen for another time.

The Helsinki - Stockholm ferries are usually filled with drunk people. The hicks of this country go there and get really really wasted.
Can't remember if the views are anything too special, last time I were using the said ferry it was really foggy that morning ...
Helsinki is a nice city to spent some time. Visit Suomenlinna and Korkeasaari if nothing else :)

I'd really love to visit Copenhagen, perhaps I'll do that instead and save Oslo for a time when I can incorporate in the Fjords.

Just out of curiosity what are the main reasons you'd suggest Copenhagen over Oslo?
