Well, of the projects I've been working on to even some extent, I've abandonned one of them.... I wanted big, walkable, RPG-style world maps (like 2500 x 2500 or maybe bigger... I can't rightly remember), and it wasn't easy enough for me to do in AGS, so I decided against it. Maybe someday I'll come back to it, but I doubt it.

That being said, I've not yet finished an AGS game and I divide my time between:

-An instagame
-A cartoony sci-fi game
-A horror game
-Another horro game (this one's just barely in its infancy -- came up with  the idea a couple days ago)
-A secret project
-An epic, kiddish fangame
-This month's MAGS game (hopefully it'll get done on time, but if it doesn't it'll be out eventually)

(No, I'd not be surprised if I had ADD. I think it's the Gemini in me. Why do you ask?...  ::) )

In all seriousness, though, I don't exactly reccomend this kind of all over the place way of working. It makes me wonder if I'll ever get ANYTHING out sometimes. Thankfully I'm putting more work than ever into this MAGS one (well, behind the epic fangame, that is).

I had worked a bit with someone else on another game one time (doing some concept art and helping with storyline), but it was essentially their baby and they dropped out. I always could have picked up their ideas and ran with them (I had their blessing, of course), but I didn't feel like it at the time. Again, maybe someday I'll go back to that idea. For what it's worth it was going to be a very "Silent Hill" inspired game.

Oh, and it's spelled "abandon". I'm such a spelling Nazi sometimes...  :-\

Kinoko

Never. Then again, I've only made one and I'm surrently making #2. There's still room for failure.

This forum should include polls stuff for making vote example whos your favo character let mention 2 Trilby or Yahzee is your favorite and this topic is also an example for polls tough im an idiot that i thinka newer project the old project gets abandoned :( but oh well thats my nature.

Totoro

I never really understood the sense of polls anyway. It's interesting to see what people are thinking about the topic, but I don't really care about statistics  :P
For me, I have not really abonded any game either, but my project is already one year behind... mmmmh... but I wont give up!  ;D So in a poll I'd choose "1"

Blade

As for me... I haven't released any game yet. My first one is progressing very slow because I can't get much time for making process. I've got two more concepts which could really take much time to make and there is one concept I had but do not intend to start it. So I'd probably choose the first option.
Studies show that 50% of the people do not know they form half of the society.

Darcness

Well, I've had to temporarily abandon Ravensmere because of some compatibilaty problems with my new PC and my 3D software (Since all the artwork in the game is 3d), but note, I said "temporarily".
In the past I have made many other games using various game engines and programming languages. A lot of these games I've scrapped because I'd suddenly get a better idea for a new game. My ratio is usually 1 completed game to every 2 uncompleted game.

Free the Floopians, Our first commercial indie game.

Haddas

I have made 2 "games". EVERYTHING else has been abandoned up till now. It should be a course at school... Then maybe...

DragonRose

It all depends on how far into creating the game you have to be before it's considered abandoned.

If you count games that were never more than ideas, I've lost count. But games where I've done some work (animations, written the plot and puzzles, etc) there's only been one. Yay me!

I have only finished 1 game with AGS. I've finished a few in Flash though...mostly games for websites, even though they're not on a website ;)
For now, this is were I get off...

This is a discussion forum, not a multiple choice quiz; allowing polls just leads to pointless "which is your favourite My Little Pony" threads.

Or threads like "Which is your favorite cola?" The thing that makes polls tricky, is that there are always people who don't definatively fit in any of the choices given (assuming that there isn't a non of the above type thing). You aslo have to worry about a constant onslaught of polls that push more interesting threads to other pages, which usually means the death of a thread.

The problem with the a poll like yours is the word abandon. I prefer to put my games on the back burner. I haven't abandoned them, so to speak, but I haven't made progress with them either. But I expect to get back to work on them once I get out of college, and don't have so much on my mind. So the real question is, what do you consider abandon? Is it someone who gives up the project and vowes never to touch it again, or is it someone who doesn't have the time/motivation to be able to work on their project at this time?

Also, the results, don't necessarily lead to anything. What can one conclude if 10% of the people responded have never abandoned a project, 30% never even tried to make a project, and the 60% had abandoned at least one project? Sometimes people abandon their projects for good reasons, like they got way over their head and tried to make a 5000 room game with 300 characters and L3N2 FL4R3! Or mayber you were working with many people in hopes that a combined effort would help make a better game, but when everyone starts to forget their responsibilies to the game there gets a point where work can no longer conclude, and the project must be abandoned. There are many other applicable reasons. I'd really rather know why someone abandoned their projects vs. how many did.

But to help you out in numbers, I'll give myself a 2. I've been in a few group projects that never got anywhere.

Indeed CJ, that would be a pointless poll... Cause we all know the best My Little Pony is CHRISTMAS PONY!!

Hehe, I dunno... it is infinitely cuter than that Borg Pony, but it just doesn't have the same destructive capabilities.

Well I am working on my first game, so Never abadoned a project yet.

As for you, its not good to abandon current project because you have new ideas.  Either keep the ideas in mind, or somehow incorporate them in your current one.  The worst is when you have 10 half-assed finished projects laying scattered on your harddrive.

Yeah, cause we NEVER have threads like that now...  :=

Anyway, back OT: I make a policy of only abandoning each game a maximum of one time
