...actually have a high school diploma/GED/HSED?

I would actually like to know this...  Reply to this post and leave the year you graduated, your current age, and your type of diploma...
- there's of course, a high school diploma
- then there's a GED, for independent schools or people who go to a technical College to get their diploma
- then there's an HSED, here in Wisconsin it qualifies you for graduating high school because a GED apparently isn't good enough for employers 'round these parts
...or, if you haven't graduated yet, leave your age, and just put no diploma (if you're comfortable with it).

Some of you wonder why I would put something that seems so insignificant on the forum... just out of curiosity.  Just wondering if anyone else out there is as down on their luck as me... (you know... crappy job that pays dirt, drives a rustbucket p.o.s., few friends 'cuz work takes up all your time, etc.) ...or am I the only sad, sorry sucker here who lives his life in a melancholy haze?

Just a reminder, you DON'T have to answer these questions...

I graduated, but none of the information that you are asking for will be revealed.

Well, if it makes anyone feel more comfortable... I'm going on 21, and I still haven't graduated... I'm working on getting my HSED... but it's taking a long time, cuz of my work hours.

First I thought you were conducting a poll or some type of scientific research, but then I realized... No. no you weren't.  You were just trying to steal my precious time away from my life and my agsforums.  oh man... I want my 3 minutes back.
In the case that is was a poll, I would have told you that I graduated in '01 as 17years old from highschool.  I'm now a junior in college and am pre-med.  Sorry ladies... this guys got a girlfriend but am holding out for Chris Jones.... but noooo, he never replies to my letters with anything but more restraining orders... oh woe is me.
Ahem* yes, well, I'm 19 now and have an associates degree... thats what they call them, right....  I don't remember. I can't be bothered with what a 2 year degree from college is... ive got like 8 more years of medicine and school.  Yeah!

Am I done now?  *Hans Moleman- I want my 5 minutes back...
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.

I graduated normally from High School.  I slacked off majorly during my Senior year.  I had a 4.0 from 1st to 11th grade and then dropped to a 2.7.  After highschool, I attended heald business college.  I dropped out because of general pissyness.  They wouldn't let me test out of any classes and I was paying 35K a year to take Typing I and Lotus 1-2-3 Beginner's courses.  Didn't wanna invest that much money for just a certificate for stuff I already knew so I left.   Have a few minor courses under my belt from the military..  Aircraft Paint systems, Corrosion Control, Cargo Container Inspection, EPA Universal Refrigerant Technician, blah, blah.

Here in Scotland, we don't "graduate" from high school, we just "finish" secondary school. Some of us go to University, some of us go to the Job Centre and some of us sponge off the welfare state.

Personally, I did all three for a bit and now pay piles of tax to let others do the same.

1. You should move to a different state. That HSED thing sounds just plain stupid.

2. I got in a car accident when I was 17 and missed a year of High School. The Flint school system is pretty screwed up. When I tried to go back they told me that because I had missed so much school and was over 16 I couldn't. I was supposed to go to adult high school. So I tried to sign up for that. They didn't honor about half of the credits from my High School and told me that I had two years to go (when I got in the car accident I was half way through my junior year). So, I said screw that and got my GED as soon as I turned 18.

I moved to Columbus, Ohio and attended OSU for a while. I am now $20,000 in debt and sick of taking crap courses (see YakSpit's post, heh).

I think I'm gonna be a trucker. No kidding.

Trucking school is about 5 grand and they have full loan programs. I think I am going to do that until I can afford to go to the Recording Workshop. (Click HERE to see my attempt to do this for free)

I'm 28, unemployed, sort of a college dropout, and life in general sucks.

Dude, unless if you have kids I say QUIT your job. You will never be anywhere but a dead end job without some kind of high school education (GED, HSED crap, whatever). Why do you work so much? I refuse to work 40 hours a week for less than $10 an hour. It just doesn't make sense. I'm not a slave and neither are you. Get your GED, move to a different state, work some shit job while living on campus for a year, then sign up for student loans, and go to college.

If you don't know about student loans and how to live for free. Just ask, I will tell you how it works. I haven't worked for four months and I'm unemployed right now...but, I have rent for the next two months and a fridge full of food. Student loans rock.

jesh...I've got to learn to write shorter posts...

Archangel (aka SoupDragon)

You know, there is such a thing as 'other countries' that have 'different educational systems'.

Would you ever hear someone posting on a forum asking what Baccoulouriats (sp) or I-GCSEs everybody has?

Timosity

Some other countries education systems are cheaper, with exactly the same qualifications too, Pity the Aus govt. has decided to go America's way with education (bloody capitolism) in other words if you have money you can basically buy a degree (well, at least a position in a course), instead of having to study hard.

I'm glad I'm out of the system now, but if I ever go back to do more study, it'll cost me.

Paranoia

All the qualifications in the world don’t necessarily mean you are any good at the job you are trained for, I work for Lucas UK, an international automotive electrical company (made computer software for the space shuttles too) I had no qualifications on paper just experience and a good name, all my training was “on job” but I ran the electrical side for over four years. I got trainees that where as much good as a chocolate fireguard, they spent £1000’s training them and you couldn’t trust them to wire a 3-pin plug! And they freaked if they got their hands dirty, all they seemed to worry about was if Man Utd would win on Saturday, and how long was it to lunch time, GCSE and A levels (UK here) sometimes aren’t worth the paper they are written on, in SOME jobs, I guess some people are a natural at certain jobs and can learn and adapt, I went from dynamo’s to full computerized engine management systems, with 6 CSE’s (means I stayed at school and I could write my name!) and a bit of common sense

I would like to reply to this.  I have a highschool deploma, and TWO college degrees, and I make LESS money then my younger brother (by 6 years) who DROPPED OUT of high school.  So put that in your "conventional" pipe and somek it!

Indeed, qualifications don't really mean that much. Remember, Bill Gates dropped out of school and he's now the richest man in the world.

Talking to someone in the personnel department at work, they said that most job applications from people with 1st Degrees go straight in the bin because they reckon they are all brain and don't have the inter-personal skills to survive in the real world.

I have to say, I don't know what all this GED/HSED/2.7/4.0 means, but I'd say just try your best and whatever you get, it shouldn't stop you doing whatever you want to.

evenwolf

CJ: no one does, haha. It means nothing on a personal level whether someone dropped out of Highschool and took a test (GED) or made a 4.0 Grade point average (meaning all A's)

I have a little bit of college in me, and I'm barely willing to stick it out, just to get some more varied information. But if I intend to work in film, only experience can help me at this point.   But then again if I want to act, some drama classes wouldnt hurt... or if I'd like to produce- some business classes.   It all comes down to one's ambition- never settle for some job to do "in the meantime".   Because some number of years later, you'll realize most of your life has been speant in the meantime.
