Title: How to make my resources available to everyone?
Post by: Maestro on Wed 02/06/2004 07:03:11
I'm just wondering how can i upload some of my resources, so that others can benefit from this.

I know there are more people who know how to make good games than there are less people who know how to draw them(or have the will to).

I have a bunch of backrgronds and a few characters which i drew and a lot of interesting objects (animated torches, explosions, icons, inventory items etc.), so I hope some of them can be put to good use somewhere...

you can do three things, pay for a web domain and some space and upload your stuff there, get a free site form freewebs or similar and upload your stuff there or you can stop trying to give everybody your stuff and send it directly to me and help me with my art.

it's your choice

I wasn't going to say anything, but I might as well.  I'm working on a new web site with Darth Mandarb where people can upload their game resources to share with everyone.Ã,  Actually, it's nearly functional already, but we're going to add a few more features and make it look spiffy.Ã,  Hopefully, the site will be ready for launch in no more than a few weeks.

Not that I want to complain about people sharing, but...

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

This is now the third sit eannounced in as many weeks... juncsource, Minimi's stuff and now this. Fair enough that you guys want to do your own thing, but can't you come to some agreement where you can all have your stuff on one greta big unified resource site? Pleeeeeease?

Indeed.Ã,  I think you're overreacting, though.Ã,  JuncSource has been around for quite awhile.Ã,  And I was working on this before Minimi put up his stuff, when lots of people were making suggestions for a centralized resource site.Ã,  It's great that people are taking the time to offer resources, no matter how many sites it takes.Ã,  Three resource sites is hardly too many, although the purpose of this site we're working on is, in fact, to make everything a little more centralized.Ã,  People can log in, upload, and search for various resources at their own leisure, rather than depend and wait on the webmaster to put things up for them.Ã,  It's quite a bit more dynamic and complex than just a resources web page.

You'll see what I mean.

LOL

SSH are you a little stressed about something?

Don't worry, give it a year and all of these resources sites will be gone anyway.

Most of the resource websites that will pop up will be on free webhosts and won't last. Look at redrum's site, it was really great, lots of unique content, and it was always down. Pretty useless resource.

If Darth Mandarb is hosting this new resource site then I'm pretty confident that it will last. I believe he either pays for or owns his server. That's why juncSource has lasted, because I pay for my server. Also, juncSource gets over 500 hits a month right now. That was when I wasn't active in the community, now that I'm posting again it's been rising. I found links to juncSource from Italian and German forums and talk about it everywhere. In my opinion juncSource is kind of lacking in the content department. I think the Adventure Game community is a little starved for resources.

Just a little note regarding the whole uploading thing. I've asked for people to donate resources to juncSource on two different occasions. In both instances I recieved no more than three contributions. If you don't put it up yourself, not much will go up.

Maestro: Sorry that everyone ran off topic on you. I would follow Zootyfruits advice until you are able purchase web space. Just post a link in this topic when your site is done. Good luck and thanks for contributing to the community.

later,
-junc

Maestro,

1) you could use the critic's lounge uploader if it's a small amount

2) or head on over to www.150m.com and sign up, after a painless sign-up (which you can do as many times as you want) you can get a free 150 MB upload space.  I have been using this for years.

3) you could always use your own computer as a server, allowing certain people to access files in a specific folder
