I want to record songs that I may put on cd. I have a microphone and recording programs, but when I save the file  I can't burn it unless it is in 16-bit format. I know how to convert the file into 16-bit format, but everytime I do the sound gets all fuzzy and sounds like it's off in the background. Does anyone know of a sound recording program(preferably free) that I can use on my computer to record songs into a burnable format without me having to convert the sound files.

With whatever program you use, make sure you set the properties of the wave file you're going to create to 44,100 kHz 16 bit BEFORE you start recording.Ã,  Otherwise, you will get poor results when converting from a lower sample/bit rate to the CD sample/bit rate.

If you're looking for a freebie audio program, try this one :

http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/

Hope this helps.
