Title: Huzzah!
Post by: PsychicHeart on Tue 21/02/2006 02:41:22
After a terror-filled few months without access to a internet(and therefore, AGS) i am happy to report i'm back! My PC apparently contracted a virus after my little sister(whom i share a pc with) downloaded a "Smiley Pack" for IM. In the immortal words of napoleon dynamite, FREAKIN' IDIOT!!
Anyway, for the last week it's been in shop and now i once again have access to one of(if not my most) beloved forums.
Cheers.

That avatar, Snarky, goes so well with your message ^_^

Welcome back, Fluke. I suggest leaving your little sister at the zoo.

Downloaded a smiley pack?
Hmmm I downloaded a smiley pack on my old computer too (which has now died of a bug...)

If anyone here ever catches me downloading a smiley pack, then please, shank me to death with an old mattress spring.

Just set up the default account to be without admin priviledges... makes it much easier to stop this.

Flukey o/

I know my brother somehow dug up my forum ID and password, so he's been here a few times. But I reckon he won't mind if I say, that once he got his pc, he could never be arsed to get a Viruschecker or a firewall because it required too much effort. Well he did have some Norton not registered version, which then expired and could not be removed.
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Anyway, he had to format the hard disk to get it working again. As that didn't help he got a new one, somehow the old one had got broken completely. Luckily there was this insurance still available, so he didn't have to pay for the new one.
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, After installing Windows XP again he first installed anti-vir and then sygate firewall, yet I have to update them every time I go home just because he doesn't bother doing it. And after installing the XP again his computer hasn't been working well. First of all, he can't download Windows updates and he still has SP1. The download program says his Windows is Finnish and he can only download it English, and for some reason they're not compatible.
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Secondly startup takes like 4 minutes everytime, and it seems to get stuck every now and then.

I'd say, our Amiga never got broken though he used to hammer it with pretty much every muscle he got. I remember him hitting it with an ice hockey stick once. Just shows, that kids and computers don't match. Oh and did I mention he's 16... Ok, admitted, I used to give that Amiga a good smack on the side every now and then...

Few months? Your last post was made a month ago or so. Anyway... er, congratulations on your worst n00b award... I guess. It somehow feels strange to congratulate on something like that ._.

Smiley packs? Are they those annoying banners on almost every other website that say annoying things like "Be mine!" that make me want to smash my fist through the monitor? (although still not as annoying as those adverts that hover OVER the website you are trying to read, which is the equivilant of having someone stick their hand in your face as you try to read something.)

Um, yes Flukebake, no one could be more deserving of such an award!  :P Bet you're so proud! Bet you don't even know about it yet, until reading this thread again!

I have been wounded deeply from your lack of prescense here... Next time your sister does something to your baby(computer), axe murdering as nikolas suggested would be quite appropriate.

I know that's what I would do if someone did that to my computer.

You can only be a n00b once, unless you're reincarnated and artificially aged somehow, you won't win again.

Note: That's not a license to be a dick.  You can still win the p3n15h award.

Note: Don't try to win the p3n15h award.

I haven't had a virus in three years... And I don't run a scanner.

*knocks on wood*
Title: Re: Huzzah!
Post by: SSH on Wed 22/02/2006 08:15:49
Thats because the undetected virus you have is fighting off all the other ones, LGM
Title: Re: Huzzah!
Post by: Gilbert on Wed 22/02/2006 08:30:43
That's because you didn't install a virus scanner so the precense of viruses was unknown to you, LGM.

Spoiler

Sorry for the bad pun, I wonder if anyone got the multi-meanings in my message.

i'm kinda the same way when it comes to viruses, i have a virus scanner installed but i only ever run it if i'm not sure about a file or if my pc seems to not be acting strange.
some common sense and a good firewall is all anyone should really need, but then i've been using the internet since 1997 when viruses weren't really that common, PCs weren't running windows 2000 or xp and when there were a lot less "shoe" heads intent on "fluffing" somebody else's pc up.
the only time i've ever had a virus on this pc is back when i took it online for the first time, i was downloading a firewall and updating norton anti-virus at the time, it actually kinda did me a favour because i now know to make a drivers disk before attempting to install windows on a SATA hard disk...

or if my pc seems to not be acting strange.
Was that a bad use of english, or did you mean that exactly how you wrote it?

Viruses suck.  I take the easy way out.  I have AdAware, and that keeps the spyware at bay.  But if I notice the computer doing strange things (everything on the desktop appears as one of those "file type unkown" icons), I just save the important stuff to a cd, and then re-format.

I trust my fellow spywareblaster to keep them away, because he wroks well and looks cute. Then if something comes through, I attack them with spybot and AdAware...and when there are viruses that won't go away, like Windows 95 or an unregistered Norton antivir, I don't know what to do... never had any of those.

Running the same apps as you, Tuomas. They make a fine team. Plus I have a virusscan, a firewall and another one in my router. So yeah, I'm pretty clean. ::)

Oh, and for the sake of ontopicyness: Sup Fluke.

Heh.. ManiacMatt: If Yutzster's, and along with Squink's follow up, comment(s) got to ya, then you be best to avoid a certain other "Personal questions" topic in which a rather VERY... uhhhh.... "bonerific" post was made by the loverly Yutzs as well.
Now excuse me while I go back to drinking my pineapple juice.  ;D

Oh yeah, back on topicyness:  Fluke, ya dawg, gratz on da Award! Guess you made a big impression around here.  Now, slapp your sister for us then get back to some adventure game makin' would ya?

I'm not really bothered by the way, I was just yanking Squinky's chain. (Not literally, I'll leave that for Yutzster)
