Hey I got a question does the power socket outlet protect your pc from power outages?

Jack

It depends. What's the baud rate?

If you mean just the outlet in the wall, then probably no (unless there is an autonomous nuclear generator on the other side of the outlet :D).

You may need an UPS to be able to shutdown computer properly when power outage happens. I think they also should protect from voltage spikes.

What about Belkin F9p609-03 6-Outlet Power Strip, does it protect your pc in case of power outage?"

You should use a surge protector on all your high end electronic gear. I'm not sure if what you mentioned is considered a surge protector though.

exsile, a "power outage" means that there's no electricity. To "protect" your computer from that (i.e. so that it keeps running and you have a chance to shut it down) you need a kind of battery pack, known as a UPS.

But you probably mean a power surge or power spike, which is when suddenly lots of electricity comes through the wire (often as a result of a lightning strike or similar). This can LEAD to a power outage, but the main danger to computers is that the surge can fry the circuits. To protect against that you need (naturally enough) a surge protector.

Looking up the model you mention, it lists "surge protection" as a feature, so that looks good. I'm not an expert, though: do surge protectors vary in quality?
