I like Space (the band), how about you?

I don't mean to just start a random thread about a band I like, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding people that share my love and respect for this band. I've always been a fan of their songs, and really got into them a few years ago with another friend. I chose last year to 'rediscover' them as such and I still just adore how original, beautiful and above all, -fun- their songs are.

They had a LOT of success with Female of the Species but that's about it, really. I was always just a tad surprised the public let them go so easily.

Whenever I mention them these days, the overall majority of people seem to have something quite bad to say about them. I mean, I could understand indifference, but recently all I've found is people saying they were one of the worst things to ever happen to the British music scene.

I can't help but be baffled by this.

So, if you're a fan, please do speak up. If you hate them, please let me know why because I just don't get it o_O

I hate them and I wish they'd die. And they suck and so does your taste in music. Also, my opinion is the truth and infallible.

(Don't worry. I don't really know who they are, just a reminder to some people that making someone feel bad is not really a good goal, but sadly that is what many people aspire to do when it comes to taste in music.)

...Kinoko. Where may I find music by this band. perhaps you have a sample for us non-knowers?

"hEY NOW! yOU AND ME AGAINST THE WORLD NOW!"

(Whoops caps was on)

Oh yeah Space... I had a tape of the album 'spiders' when it came out.. where is it? Oh yeah I gave it away.

Well last year I got nostaligic and bought a greatest hits by them (Probably released solely by the record company) seeing as it was dirt cheap and remembered that, hey they aint bad!

They were quite successful with 'the ballad of tom jones' with that woman too.

Kinoko

Ah yeah, forgot to mention that one. I didn't like it much at the beginning but it's really grown on me now. Gotta find it at karaoke one of these days.

ManicMatt

yeah the song is quite cheesy at first...

Actually, I think I heard "dark clouds" by space before anything else?

This cd compilation has "good times" and "love you more than football". Do you have those? they were from an unreleased third album. (But you probably knew that already)

Kinoko

You know what? I didn't know that. I don't have anything unreleased. Dark Clouds is a gorgeous song though.

Right now, I'm rather partial to Money. One of the things I love about Space is that they sing about things other than love, sex, or any of the other well overdone themes. 'Course, they do those too.

I feel sad and neglected.

Exciting fact: "Spiders" was the first non-compilation album i ever purchased, back in '96 or whenever. I haven't listened to it in about five years but I still have fairly fond memories of most of that album. Neighbourhood and You And Me Against The World were as good as Female Of The Species.

From what I hear their decline in popularity was helped along by some stupid legal wranglings which meant they couldn't release anything for four or five years, after which the whole Britpop scene had imploded and noone cared anymore. I seem to remember when they came back they'd pretty much ditched the quirkyness that made them stand out in the first place, which didn't help matters.

HADDAS!

Here you go:

Play "female of the species", as the other tracks don't represent anything I remember, and might be b-sides and abstract stuff by them.

Thank you Matt. This seems familiar. I think I have heard this song. I like it. My opinion about this... Better than worse. It's a bit weird, but that's allright with me anyway :)

Thank you

No shit, really? That explains a lot. It makes a lot of sense, given that almost a whole album of their is dedicated to songs about Tarantino films and The Usual Suspects.
