Books on cartooning

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a book on sketching or cartooning? I'm looking to improve my skills in that area and my personal experimentation has yielded awful results.

Cartoon Animation - Preston Blair :: An awesome book which taught me a lot!

It's mostly about animating cartoons, but there's some instructional stuff about just drawing cartoons.

Jack Hamm, the Man.

This is the book my brother and I used to copy out of all the time when I was a kid. Eventually it was a torn up rag of overused paper, but I managed to find another copy years later when they reprinted it. It is awsome. It is dirt cheap as far as art books go. Get it.

2 words. Christopher Hart. He's done about six books, all about comics, cartooning, dynamic drawing, all sorts of awesome stuff. Of course, I use my own self talent, and I 'm pretty good. Whatever floats your boat.

I have his books on comic style, Comic strips, and animation and I have to agree that these are the best books on the subjects I have ever read!

Andrew Loomis - Fun With a Pencil

I printed it off recently and I think it's really good!

Nothing about cartooning in it though.

rode: i have that book too, it really fucked me up cause as far as i could tell it didn't really try to improve my art as it just showed me how the artist could draw hands and ladies sleeping

but seriously dave, i don't think any book will help ever

especially a book where all they do is draw a hand and then say "See this is what it looks like!"

anatomy books are nice [not Gray's Anatomy unless you plan on drawing lots of viens] i have a nice anatomy book that i got from Barnes and Noble and it was cheap Drawing Human Anatomy by Giovanni Civardi

if anything i recommend Loomis cause he'll at least teach you about proportion and all that stuff

in my opinion 99% of all drawing books are shit [especially the how to draw manga books]

also, as far as personal experimentation goes, if it's your first time sketching then it's gonna look terrible, just keep at it and at it, i know that's an annoying thing to hear and it's annoying for me to say, but it's the truth as much as it sucks
