The search for music editing software.

I've been looking around for some music editing software (mainly for MP3s and WAV files.)

I just was wondering if anybody here could recommend some good editor tools.  I really need something that can add realistic echoes and acoustics to sound files, not like the cheesy echoes that the standard Windows sound recorded makes.

Any suggestions as to where to look?

Lgm showed me Cool Edit 2000. Its amazing. It isnt free but I think it may be worth paying, or stealing if thats what your into.
