Just wondering if you can help me

Im just trying to find a game I played when I was young. I actually never owned the game as it was my friend's. The main character was a witch or learning to become one and one of the first puzzles was to get this guy to sail you across either a river or sea to an island. It was all woodland and you could go to her cottage. I cant remember anything more as me and my friend found quite hard and ending up never completing it. Im just wondering if this sounded famliar to anyone
