Title: I'm Sorry!
Post by: Goldie on Fri 13/03/2009 04:05:57
Everyone, I'm sorry I was intrusive about people's religions and personal live's. I was only trying to find people like me. That's no excuse though. I won't say anything else of the sort.  :-X

whoa, dude, slow down on the posting spree! you didn't need to apologise and its in the wrong forum.  Just stop posting completely, and lurk around the forums for a bit. Get a good feel for the general posting etiquette and then if you have something to contribute or a (relevant) question to ask, post away! Always remember to use the search function first in case someone else has already posted what you wanted!

As mentioned this is the wrong forum. Hopefully this will be moved to the right forum by a moderator shortly.

My advice would be that if you want to give a Christian witness on a game making forum, then make a game about being a Christian, or some kind of moral theme. For an example of an AGS game that manages to feature a whole lot about Judaism but yet isn't preachy (and is also an awesome detective story) then see Dave Gilbert's awesome The Shivah (http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/shivah.html).

You can also get your message across by making a game that clearly states your values without having to emphasize that it's a 'Christian' game.

I personally feel that a lot (not all of them) of the values that I've been told are 'Christian' are really quite sensible, ordinary things - being generous, not being selfish or lazy, that sort of thing. You can get those messages across in a game without having to explicitly state that the game is from a certain viewpoint, as people from any sect or group will be able to appreciate these views, and people may be turned off from your games if you go out of your way to tell everyone how important Christianity is in your game.

That is, if you plan on making a game about that stuff. Otherwise just ignore me. Or ignore me anyway ;).

Besides, what does it matter what religion other people are? Most religions I know preach tolerance (regardless of whether it's widely practiced or not), so you shouldn't mind being on the same forum regardless of what faith, or non-faith as it may be, the other users are. Honestly I really don't care, nor do I even want to know what religion most of the other folks here are - it's irrelevant.

What brings us together as a community is not religion, but our mutual love of adventure games and game creation (Though the worship of CJ here is certainly bordering on 'false idolhood'). People who want to share their religions should certainly feel free to do so, so long as it doesn't impede other users' enjoyment of things, but let them tell you, instead of asking them.

As SSH mentioned, if you're dead-set on figuring out who among us are of the same faith as you, why don't you make a game about christianity? Or one that teaches a moral lesson? Dave Gilbert and the folks at Wadjet Eye certainly proved that it can be done tastefully and interestingly for people even outside of Judaism.

It's a great pleasure to have people on our forum from all races and faiths - we're an awesome and friendly little group of people. You're welcome on the forums, just spend some time getting comfortable here - post in some other threads, enjoy some ongoing conversations and get a feel for our community. And try making an adventure game!

I don't think age mattered, Fluke. Not with you.

FLukeblake is 16 now?

I still firmly believe in my policy: "Born in the 90s? Shush now, future child"

Damn, Zoot, I would love to be born in the 80s to be honest. I missed a great deal of things I love nowadays.
Yes, being 10 years old and realizing that it's already year 2000 is awful.

Damn you kids make me feel old. I'm creeping up on 30 already.

And yeah, I was actually harkening back to good ol' FlukeBlake's first few days of AGS in either this thread or the other most recent 'Sorry I got off on the wrong foot' apology thread (Funny how much stuff is doubling up recently). I find it almost odd to think of myself as one of the 'older' crowd on the forum - not just in terms of how long I've been on the forum, but just born way back in the days when the Vic 20 was actually taken seriously as a home computer.

And Oliwerko - you didn't miss much; Cindy Lauper, MC Hammer, big hair, the mullet, hot pink nylon windbreakers, He-Man, GI Joe and Captain N: The Game Master.

Dear God! That's a whole lot of awesome he missed right there in that sentence.

Cyndi Lauper alone made the 80's worth living in.  Hell, the popcorn solo in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was worth the double what the 2000's have put out.

Guess what music I love.
80s. Cindy Lauper included  ;D

Now guess what I totally miss. The 80s/90s demoscene.
And you can easily guess the rest  ;D

Hi Yougsters.

I was born in 1973.
Oh. I still have fond memories of my very first comp the 'Sinclair Spectrum 48k' rubber buttoned wonder.
Then it was fantastic and I, still to this day, love it.
You had all your games on tape and loaded them for half an hour, or more, to be told that an error had occured.

However. Having said that most of the games were great and cleverly written, when they worked. There are so many of the Speccy game that could be
re-written for todays....Youngsters! One that pops to mind was a game called 'DRAGONTORC'. I never completed it and am playing it still with the help
of the 'ZX Spectrum emulator'. It's still great. :)

Also you could feel the love, time, sweat and blood that went into developing them. Something that I feel is missing with games of today.
If anyone is interested in the 'ZX Spectrum Emulator' and games then vissit www.worldofspectrum.org

Well thats my nostalgia trip over for tonight. ;)

Jay.

I'm 20 and I've been on this forum since I was 12.

Jesus, that is terrifying. I am terrified of myself and how little I've achieved.

I started at 15, and now I'm 18. In unrelated news, I'm also striding towards my 2nd semester at university.

Yes, I do get a lot of "you're HOW old"s.  :P

I've no idea when I started, though I've a copy of 2.22 somewhere, and I remember reading the ezboard forums.

I *still* have a hard time believing I'm older than CJ, though.
