now for a more worthwhile one, After all the bull**** regarding LucasArts and their cancellation of Sam N' Max 2 I think it's high time we made some noise but how? Hatemail? Boycotting their products? kidnapping of key personnel? Decapitated race horses? (or in this case white bunnies and dogs) turning up in George Lucas' bed? Cause they've f***ed with us for the last time, I mean after Star Wars ep 1 and 2 and the complete sh** that was monkey island 4, I think it's time for a revolution, I think it's time we accepted that Star Wars ep 3 is going to be crap anyway and did something about this bull***t

C'mon, who's with me?

Lucas would have never done this. I believe it's his evil clone or whatever lame scenario we can come up with. I suggest we threaten them, and if they still don't do agree we shall plant a bomb in the starwars department. That will set things straight. Or, we could find who the REAL criminal is, and execute him.

I beg to differ, for Lucas has screwed with us for ever, the most recent one being a virus known as the lucas/gates anti-fun virus. It only allows you to use the internet for playing star wars galaxies, and for anyone who is familiar with it, it's nothing but a hive of xenoporn somewhere in california George Lucas is hiding in his underground lair monitoring Galaxies worshippers with Bill Gates laughing and arguing over who is richer. He keeps Dave Prowse (darth vader) at the door to bash him with a solid lead lightsaber if he crosses him. Gettin in there is going to be tricky, I'll need explosives experts and old copies of Fifa games (they make excellent shrapnel yknow) some army uniforms, sub-machine guns, knives and of course, solid snake (otacon can join in if he brings the codecs and stealth suits).

Anybody with these exact connections should reply soon

we did the hatemail, and it didnt neccesarily work. it did work in such that it got the attention of their newly ex-employees. so much as so that two newly founded companies made up of old lucas employees seem to be in a bidding war for either the source code of sam and max 2, or the rights to do a sam and max game once the lucasarts liscense over sam and max runs out in may/june.

so relax.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I liked Ep. II. I didn't liked MI4, but don't make your opinions so "visible", telling them "bullshit" or "complete shit", because people would dissagree and you could hurt their feelings.

and I loved STAR WARS KOTOR. The cancellation of a game that could have been so bad as MI4 IN MY HONEST OPINION was won't stop me obtaining the second part.

Maybe we should blame most to ourselves, as the demmand part in the game of the offer and the demmand, for not caring the world of the adventure games as we could during the golden age. (*)

(*) Ourselves as a generalization, because we specifically, as AGSers and as an AG makers community, are still in the fight!

You know George Lucas has practically nothing to do with anything Lucasarts does.

Also, Monkey Island 3 was as bad as 4, if not worse.

Nacho

See? another opinion. Opinions are like bottoms, everyone has one.

I loved MI3.

If you don't like what lucasarts are doing now, then don't buy any of their games. Simple as that.

They don't owe you, or anyone, a new Sam and Max game, nor a new Monkey Island. They're a business. As they see it, adventure games don't sell.

Domino

I loved MI3 and kind of liked MI4.

I'm still trying to decode what the title of this thread is.  :)

Monkey Island 3 was brilliant. I really don't know about MI 1 & 2 fans couldn't love it.  They updated the graphics and interface without hurting the core.  I can see why people didn't like MI4 even though I enjoyed it (less than the rest, though).

George Lucas isn't hiding out in a shelter.  He made an appearance at the company Christmas party.  He's not due to go back into hiding for another day or two, so strike quickly.  Seriously, though, Scummbuddy's right.  The Lucas employees working on S & M II and FT II were let go.  It was a flat-out money decision to discontinue these.  They brought in a new head of Lucasarts in order to streamline it and focus on the genre at which they've had best financial success (with one or two game exceptions, like Mercenaries (which is hardly revolutionary)).  Regardless, I don't think the blame can be pinned solely on the Lucas companies.  Why spend so much money on a failing genre.  Face it, today's youth has a shorter attention span and lacks the patience for adventure games (excepting those here, of course).

If you wanna protest, make an unnoficial fangame - MI5, or your own Sam and Max 2.
Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

I think there are more important things to be protesting and starting revolutions over than a computer game.

I probably should've put 'bad' in inverted commas - I don't think MIs 3 and 4 are terrible or anything, just rather lame and entirely unnecessary - LEC's laziest adventure efforts by far. Their existence certainly lowers the status of the series, and even harms the reputation of the first two games a little, which is a real shame.

I wrote a big rant here once on why I think, as a sequel, 3 was pretty much a disaster. In summary: shockingly inconsistent, point-missing characterisations (in terms it's predecessors), largely uninspired and forced humour, and having no real story or reason to exist beyond explaining away MI2's excellent ending in the blandest, most literal-minded fashion possible.

I personally think 4 generally did a slightly better job of recreating the general tone of 1 and 2, and the thing at least had a story of sorts to tell, but sadly the game fell to pieces with that godawful final third.

I probably shouldn't be laying into MI3 every chance I get, but with that game I really feel like I'm trapped in a big Emperor's New Clothes situation.

InCreator

Yah. It's just a rabbit and a dog in police uniform.
How can two cartoon characters make so much noise?

Just go play Star Wars.
It's awesome you know, with galaxies and monsters and crap.

* totally broken now *

Damn teh cancelled games!!!1

About the MI3... I am a die hard MI 1 and 2 deffender. But I really liked MI 3, and, in the way Ron Gilbert finished the second part
Spoiler
(I really think Guybrush dreamed it all and he has been in a theme park all the time)

wow, so I guess I'm not alone :P. I always thought that Guybrush is actually a four year old kid with a lot of imagination having fun with his friends and none of the story actually did happen like that. I don't really think he was dreaming, but yeah

I absolutely loved MI3. I liked MI4 too but not as much.

Nacho

Hey, I haven't discovered the tea with milk! it's something many people thinks. And there are some "clues".

Spoiler

In the door in the alley behind the church there is a "staff only" door. It may seem that the "staff" is the workers of the ride "big whoop" because in the second part we see that door takes to the big whoop

Some pirates call guybrush "Kid"

When Guybrush says something like "Why do you talk in that way?" a pirate replies "THEY talked in THAT way in THAT period"... A sentence that could have been told by an actor in a pirate ride.

Of course, till Ron don't confirm it we will never be sure... And I am not sure if he'll ever tell it.

"Monkey Island 3 couldn't have been continued better."

I'm not sure how even fans of the game can really say that - my other complaints might only be my opinions, but it's pretty much an objective fact that several of the characterisations are dramatically at odds with those of the first two games.

Nacho

MI storyline  was preppaired to be finished in two games. The third doesn't reach (IMO) the top, but it reaches the top that a third part of a game thought to be finished in two parts can. But that's my opinion, and the overall enjoyment of a game is such a personal feeling that I won't dare to discuss with somebody else.

And I think that the characters match. Again, it has a lot to see with subjective feelings, I think you're going too far saying that they don't do.  :-\ Maybe I am wrong, but "Guybrush 3", fits more in the image I had of the enamoured "Guybrush 1" than the Guybrush in LeChuck's revenge...  ???
