So in my first semester of studying computer science we had to make a game with Java, this is a commentated gameplay trailer of what I came up with:

I already posted this in AGS IRC but I figured I'd post it here as well, in case somebody enjoys it! Let me know what you guys think! It was developed in about 2 months!

That's pretty impressive. HELL Yeah! (laugh) Best of luck with this, and hopefully we'll be able to play it one day, too!

I also love the commentary. Unhealthy relationship with menu buttons should get its own Wiki entry...  ;)

I really like the gradual explosions when you kill an enemy!

Out of interest, what happens if you try to just fly past a set of enemies (like the squids)?

Looks fun dkh!
out of curiosity, did you use any libraries/framework - if so, how easy was it to work with?

Awesome work, Jan! Simply amazing that you made this in 2 months!
I guess it goes to show what you can do when you actually know what you are doing @_@
Grim: "You're making me want to quit smoking... stop it!;)"
miguel: "I second Grim, stop this nonsense! I love my cigarettes!"

Thanks everybody!

@Ghost: I will definitely release it very soon, after a bit more polishing!

@MurrayL: You can go past enemies and it won't really punish you at the moment, they will stop targeting you once you're past them and that's it. I should probably make it so you can't do this haha!

@Daniel Thomas: I used Slick2D which is a wrapper around the LWJGL (which is a wrapper around OpenGL and what Minecraft uses directly for example). I wouldn't seriously suggest Java at all for a serious game project, we were forced to use it for this Java programming class! But apart from that, Slick2D is nice and easy to work with honestly. Used Eclipse as IDE which I also like.

@Snake: Thanks! :)

I'm impressed. Love the way you did the weapon aim cursor.

It shows what can be done in about 2 months.

I would play the game if you get to finish it.

Well done

Thanks slasher! I will definitely release it, one way or the other! We've had a bit of playtest in class today and it turns out I really need to design some easier levels, this game is HARD currently haha

ThreeOhFour

This has been a pretty fun project - I wanted to make an underwater game since playing AquaNox in early 2012, and this is soothing that particular urge quite nicely for now!

It's kinda fun not working on an adventure game for a change, too (although I am still working on those, of course)

Me and Ben are continuing to develop this game, turn it into something much cooler than what I showed off as a technical prototype in the video. Here's a sneak peak shot Ben took a couple of minutes ago:

selmiak

who did manifest these squids?

Looks like a  fun to play game. Hopefully you have all the fitting action themed music for all the dramatic story events, like... even bigger squids appear and attack *music gets faster* :D
