Title: I need desperate help: I need a loan! Please look inside
Post by: Joseph DiPerla on Thu 29/03/2012 05:14:25
Hello fellow AGSers. I know most of you have known me since the beginning way back in the late 90's. I really feel embarrassed to do this, but I have come into desperate times recently and am in need of financial assistance. I recently had a baby girl, Ava, who was born on December 13th 2011. My wife and I have been out of work for the past 4 months and we are facing eviction from our apartment. On top of that, our vehicle is facing repossession.

I hate doing this and feel really embarrassed, but I am trying every single avenue I can find in order to better this situation.

I have finally found a job and will start in two weeks and my wife goes back to work next month(due to illness, she had been out). Unfortunately I need to pay these bills this week. I am short $2325 that I really need this week. I am trying to sell items on ebay, which I will post links to here tomorrow. But even with that, I will still be short. I have already sold so many things that I own such as my PS3, my Wii, my TV, an old pc and my wifes tablet to help pay for some of my other debt. I am almost ready to sell my own tablet as well. I have asked some other friends and my family for a loan as well and they provided what they could, but now I am short the rest.

To break it down, I need to get $955 for rent and $1370 (all from months of not being able to pay it) for our car payment. This is our only car and we live in CT where we absolutely need a car since there is no walking around here. Our loan company has been more than generous in not repoing our car from lack of non-payment. But now they reached a boiling point.

What I am asking is for a sort of loan-me-a-charity thing here. If anyone can loan me some money, I can gaurentee these things for those that do:

*I will repay what you gave me within 3 months. However, six months would be ideal if you could spare it.
*I will promise to continue work on the AGS Marketplace for Android.
*I will promise to release a game this year, which you will get to play before everyone else.

So basically, consider this as sort of an unofficial kickstarter for Joey DiPerla. Again, I hate to ask this, but with a baby now in our care, and with a whole streak of bad luck and a bad economy and illness, I am desperate and need to use all options.

If you are able to loan me some money towards my debt mentioned above, please DM me. I apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you can all understand my situation and can forgive me for asking such a horrible thing. :(

-JD

If I was able to do so I'll do it, but just can't :( (I'm myself in the red for the next 3 - 4 months) .

Anyway, just to a word to wish you good luck for everything.
Cheerz,
Dan

Welcome to the club Joseph. This winter was the worst winter of my life, I have kids too and know what you're going through. My advice is don't ever make a loan to pay loans, try to borrow from family and friends.
I wish you good luck and remember that this is just a phase you're going, you will manage to work it out! Don't let yourself down.

Hey Joe. I wish I could help but I'm living in the dark side of my overdraft at the moment.  I've been lucky enough to be a full-time student thoughout the worst of this recent economic crisis of the last few years. It's kind of a recession-proof bubble, living on student loans and my student overdraft. so while things have been tight, They've never been dire. but i finish in june, and am shitting myself about not being able to find a job, especially if I fail Japanese (i'm shit at it), I could end up with no degree and a bunch of student debt.

But I'm just a single guy. I'm hearing stories like yours all the time, and it's always worse when there's kids in the mix. But you seem like a worthy guy and i'm sure something will come your way.  Just keep on keeping on.

Don't feel bad asking - that takes a lot of courage, really. Sad thing is, a lot of people are in similar situations (though I myself, for example, at least have the benefit of not having a family to take care of).

All I can do is wish you the best and hope it all works out :/

I think many of you can do better than to just wish him luck.  Over $4000 was raised for the ags bake sale so there are people here who can afford to donate something (is even $5-10 too dear to you?).  You could be where he is next year and looking for a hand up, so just bear that in mind.

Also, you really should check your private messages, Joe.  If you don't have yourself a paypal account, make it happen ASAP.  This will streamline donations and you can transfer that money to your bank in 3-5 days.

I'm officially calling all of you out to donate 5-10 dollars (or more if you can spare it).

I've been trying since yesterday. He won't PM me back. I can only assume it's because he won the mega millions lottery last night.

I think that you could help him if you can and wish him luck if you can't help him. There's no harm comforting someone.

I get what you're saying but you can't decide for others what their priorities/finances are. Just because we can't spare money for Joseph (either due to total lack of funds or other reasons) doesn't mean we don't sympathize.

I, for example, when I wrote my response, was in a situation where it seemed like I wasn't getting paid for the last month I worked before being laid off. Now that the money's in, I'll see what I can do once there's a way to shuffle some dineros around. It won't be much but I can spare some.

By no means does this mean you're right. I kinda disagree with your viewpoint. If you can, help. If you can't, wishing luck won't harm anyone.

It's just a lucky break (for me and possibly Joe) that my situation's less terrifying than it was before, and now I can help :)

Actually, I am really thankful for all your best wishes and I have received some help (Via PM) and thanks to some of you, I only need $970 to pay the rest of my bills. SO thank you guys so much. Sorry I haven't replied to the PM's in the last couple of days. I wanted to see if I could better my situation before responding and accepting any help. Unfortunately, the only reason why its gotten better was because of all your help and from selling a couple of more items on ebay.

Thank you guys all so much. And please, do not loan me anything if you yourself cannot afford it. I totally understand. The economy nowadays is in really bad shape and its wearing on all of us. Gas around my neighborhood here is at $4.06 and still going up. So its been costing me quite a bit to fill up my car. Thankfully I have a Ford Focus that has good gas mileage (33MPG) and a small tank to fill.

Thank you guys so much for all you are doing. :)

I don't think it's strange to be hesitant to transfer cash to people you've never met, over the internet. I've only ever loaned money to my closest friends.

So, I'll just say good luck, Joseph, and hope that you'll pull through eventually!
Also, maybe you shouldn't worry about or focus too much on making games at a time like this. Nobody here will or should demand that you create games instead of spending all your energy sorting out your financial situation.
Creating games consumes valuable hours that could be spent on working extra or something.

My intention wasn't that you should stay out of the thread if all you have to offer is well wishes.

I think some of you can be a bit thin-skinned at times, taking broad-reaching statements like many of you to mean you specifically.

If you read his post and think 'I'm doing what I can in this situation so my conscience is clear' then you're not one of the people to whom I was referring.  If not, well I have no guilt in that regard.

Sorry if that sounds offensive.

Given that all posts up to that point had been of the 'well wishing' type and your statement was that you were 'officially calling all of [us]' out to donate, seemingly regardless of our own issues, it kind of did cover all of us. And that seemed a little harsh.

Chalk it up to misunderstanding due to lack of nuance on both sides (and remembering that text alone is an imperfect way of communication) and I think we're good.

Joe - check your PMs. And your kid is adorable.

I would suggest to make some kickstarter-like project, even if being low. You could show a project draft for it and/or collect ideas from people and do it in your style.

Also, have luck! I have some economic problems, but they aren't still a problem. Maybe I'll move (from other part of my country or other like UK) to get some job soon...

Hey Prog, its a little better. I was able to pay my rent this month. But as far as the car payments, I am still $940 short. But I am going to see if I can get an extension on my loan. Hopefully I can.

Thank you all for the help and messages you have sent. Its been very kind, considerate and generous. I am so glad to be a part of a large and wonderful community like all of you.

Tim: I thought about that, I just have nothing thats worth starting on kickstarted at the moment. I am working on a RON game, but I really do not want to ask for cash on kickstarter for that.

What about the Android AGS market place?
