I can't stand their website service anymore. I'm going to make myself a new site, but first I need a few suggestions.
Can anyone tell me a good place to build a personal website that doesn't cost anything, has decent features, and doesn't suck in general?
Please don't name Angelfire, I already know they suck too.
Thanx,
Sully
tripod always did me fine. sure they had ads and popups but their service always pleased me

No such thing. If you want decent service, you'll have to pay..
I use Tripod.. It's not too bad (20 mb, fair amount of bandwidth, ftp access), but it's a bit slow, and they're always finding ways to put more ads on every page..
EDIT: fucking eric, trying to steal my thunder..
mmmmm fucking eric
It took you this long to get fed up with geocities? I still use them, but I update my site maybe once a year. The thinkg that threw me over the edge is when the stopped allowing me to use a FTP server unless I paid. goodluck with your search.

I havent had any problems with Geocities. Well, except for direct linking. What problems are you having?
ooh! www.web1000.com was great for a free site! :)
I use www.Freewebs.com, but only for my website.
It is free, has no ads or pop-ups, has 50MB (though file sizes are limited to 1.5MB, DAMN!) and I believe it has unlimited bandwidth, not sure about that though.
Downpoints are, of course, the file size limit and also no FTP transfers. Everything must be uploaded through the browser and one at a time. :(

It looks promising...
[edit] Hm...I think it's pretty good. It's just a tad slow on uploading, but I'm pleased with it because I'm just using text and small gifs. There are no ads and lots of space. [/edit]
