I don't want Spleen to be the odd organ out here so I have to say I agree with his assessment 100%.  The jokes seem to fall flat more than they soar, and having been to college these characters just seem over-stereotypical to the point of being boring walking cliches devoid of any interesting personality.  Alot of people seem to enjoy your work, however, so that just goes to show I have no sense of humor!

Indeed, just becasue you look like a red-haired version of Ivanova from Babylon 5 you think you can get away with some duff comics? Actually, the penguin one and the fridge one were good, but they are generally more recognition funny than ROFL funny.

Scott Adams, Dilbert's creator has written a lot of tips about homour in his books, and he doesn't always follow his own advice, but his humour is also mainly based on familiar situations. He advises to take it one step further than just a cartoon of the situation: go an extra mile. I can't find the books just now, though... aargh untidiness!

Damn Rolf, i thought Ivy was good. You sir, are excellent. No not really. I don't understand that at all.

edit: are those bloody teeth i see?

Thanks SmootH. :-,
I liked your article even better the second time.

Some good advice from out there, I'll especially have to check out this Scott Adams thing.  I happen to be a big fan of his work...he managed to become one of the most successful syndicated cartoonists in years and all without being able to draw (his own words).

I'll get back to you guys next year. :)

P.S. I googled this Ivanova you spoke of, and unless "scary" is the new "hot" I'm not sure that's a compliment. :P

Rolf: That's about the funniest comic ever. Genius!

The one on the right isn't most likely to develop a cartoon diorama adventure game.

The one on the right appeared in a comatose-inducing space soap.

The one on the right writes back to my PMs.Ã,  :P

It's simple. The angry Big Guy wants the shoe and the Little Scared Kid gives it to him. So Big Guy is happy - He loves. It's like a mirror of the society. People who have power (political, economic, religious, etc.) take what they want from the little - powerless - people. It's a really philosophical comic strip. And the autor does take english classes.  :o

Enough offtopic.. Ivy I really liked the comics you did. They are funny. Keep up the good work.

Kinoko

Ivy's comics pale in comparison to Rolf's!

I didn't know she was on the boards!Ã,  Great, now she'll be after me for tarnishing her good, foreign-sounding name.

P.S. Sorry Matt, I finally got around to replying.

P.P.S. Thanks Krysis...and the rest of you, for making this thread especially magical. :P

P.P.P.S. Just a general note, I think next year I won't go so "college-y" with my jokes.Ã,  So there's hope for me yet. :-,

I found some stuff on Adams' blog based on whats in his book. It also reminded me which book I need to relocate, too: http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/the_dilbert_blog/2005/12/humor_formula.html
