Having the need to put more stuff on to my ever growing mp3 player's collection, I'm curious as to what the answers will be. Mine would probably be:
10. Bon Jovi - Living On A Prayer.
9. Steely Dan - Do it Again.
8. Coldplay - God put a Smile Upon your Face.
7. RHCP - Under the Bridge.
6. Frank Sinatra - Come Fly With Me.
5. Beatles - Day Tripper.
4. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
3. Dire Straights - Sultans of Swing.
2. Queen - Don't Stop Me Now.
1. Eagles - Hotel California.
Incidentally, don't feel the need to be elitest and post JUST certainties that are Acceptable. Post your actual opinion.
I always thought being an elitist would contradict posting acceptable certainties. Also, what if your opinion is either elitist music or even certainties?
In any case, I don't have a top ten. Just a few songs I like:
Let Down, Nice Dream - Radiohead
How Do You Sleep?, She Bangs A Drum, Going Down - Stone Roses
Finest Worksong - REM
A Town Called Malice - The Jam
Like A Rolling Stone, Mr Tamborine Man - Bob Dylan
Dream Machine - Mark Farina
Scattered Black and Whites - Elbow
What's Going On? - Marvin Gaye
Here Comes The Flood - Peter Gabriel
Only God Can Judge Me - Tupac

10. ICO - You Were There
A very cheerful, peaceful song. Play this music when you're feeling angry.
9. Legend of Zelda Remix - Ocarina Boogie
One of the best damn remixes I've heard in a long time. Download it from OCRemixes and you'll see why.
8. Chrono Cross Remix - Another Inspiration
Another great remix. It even surpasses the brilliance and harmony of the original version. Once again, download from OCRemixes.
7. Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug
This is one of the first songs I've heard from NIN, and I quite frankly loved it.
6. Nine Inch Nails - We're In This Together
Another NIN song - I love industrial metal.
5. Tool - Stinkfist
The first Tool song on this list. Nothing really to comment on it other than it's great.
4. Chrono Trigger - Frog's Theme
A catchy, upbeat song. Also extremely addictive.
3. Chrono Cross - Time's Scar
Another reason why Yasunori Mitsuda is one of the best video game music composers ever.
2. Tool - Aenima
Very long, very expressive, very powerful.
1. Tool - Forty-Six & 2
Teh ultimate in progressive metal!!!! It r0x0r5!!!one!
Cripes, that's hard... I usually change my list of favourite songs all the time, but the ones that I always return to sooner or later are:Ã, (I won't rank them, they all have personal meanings to me, and I hate to say that one of them are better than the others...)

I know that trying to think of 10 will take me an hour while I battle myself, so I'll pick one:
Metallica - Call of the Ktulu
Barcik, it's actually not Metallica that has made the song, it's Megadeth's Dave Mustaine who was Metallicas first guitarist. Metallica took almost all songs Dave did after he was kicked out of the band for drinking to much.
I think Megadeth is one of the greatest band I have ever heard so that's why I had to point it out :P
This is an impossible task but heres 10 songs I still like after time goes by or in some cases just because it's semi recent, but only one song per band
Monster Skank - Infectious Grooves
Apache rose peacock - RHCP
Ego Brain - SOAD
Get off - Frenzal Rhomb
Falling down - Mad Caddies
Killing the Right - The Living End
The Gentle Art of Making Enemies - FNM
Gone Daddy Gone - Violent Femmes
Out of Space - The Prodigy
There would have to be a Beatles song in there but I can't think of the one in the back of my mind.
I'm sure I've forgotten heaps but that's a good list for me
Mine are (in no order):
Hotel California
Ziggy Stardust
Life on Mars (David Bowie)
What I'm Made of (Crush40)
Live And Learn (Sonic Adventure 2)
Far Far Away
Everyday
Killer Queen
Almost the whole ST from Final Fantasy VII
Super Carrots Overworld music
In no particular order:
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower: Bah.. Everybody's heard it.
The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby: Like Rincewind said. Saddest song I've ever heard.
Radiohead - Paranoid Android: I've seen it described as every radiohead song crammed into six minutes.
Pixies - Velouria: Perfect pop song..
Beach Boys - Good Vibrations: Ditto
Modest Mouse - Third Planet: A song about futility.. But it inspires me to go out and do stuff :P
Ween - Roses are Free: Got to mention something from Ween..
Sublime - Santeria: Combines pretty pop melodies with... shooting people. Both rappers and whiny emo kids have something to learn from this song.
Weezer - Say it Ain't So: I'm getting sick of Weezer.. But this song is a classic.
Outkast - Bombs Over Baghdad: If you hate rap, it's probably Snoop Dog's fault. Listen to good rap instead..
10) Bloodhound Gang - The Roof Is On Fire
9) Offspring - Get A Job
8) Billy Idol - Dancing With Myself
7) The Beatles - Yellow Submarine
6) Oasis - Wonderwall
5) Something Corporate - I Woke Up In A Car
4) Offspring - Pretty Fly For A White Guy
3) Blink 182 - What's My Age Again

7) Linkin Park - From The Inside
8) Linkin Park - Faint
9) Linkin Park - Somewhere I belong

I couldn't really decide wich ones I could put here, put these should be the ones I REALLY REALLY REALLY LIKE!
My top ten: (in no particular order)
1. Dixie Dregs - Cosmopolitan Traveler
2. Brad Mehldau - I Didn't Know What Time It Was
3. Punjab MC - Mundian to Bach Ke
4. Yellowjackets - Greenhouse
5. Marcus Miller - Punk Jazz
6. F4 - Wo shi zhen de zhen de hen ai ni
7. Weather Report - Teen Town (though Victor Wooten from the Flecktones did a really awesome cover of this)
8. John McLaughlin - Can't Stand Your Funk
9. Derek and The Dominoes - Layla
10. Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe
There's no way that I'd EVER be able to name these, but I *AM* kinda dissapointed that no one has mentioned Genesis yet, the kings or progressive rock. With that said:
Genesis - The Musical Box
Probably their best example of pure, un-tainted Prog Rock.
1. Orbital - The Girl With The Sun In Her Head (Simply one of the most beautiful pieces of electronic music written)
2. Aphex Twin - Nannou (Perfection is a song made with only a wind-up music box)
3. Elbow - Scattered Black And Whites (A song about nostalga, tugs at the heart strings and ends in such a sublime way you might feel like you're floating on pillars of light)
4. Boards Of Canada - You Could Feel The Sky (Unsettling to listen to, but remarkably awesome at the same time)
5. The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows (40 years ahead of it's time)
6. The Stone Roses - She Bangs The Drum (Madchester, innit)
7. Radiohead - Let Down (So much to say about Radiohead, Let Down is possibly my favourite track off their unquestionally best album)
8. Radiohead - Life In A Glass House (Of course I'd like to sit around and chat...)
9. RX Bandits - Taking Chase As The Serpent Slithers (A friend at Uni introduced me to the RX Bandits. They write complicated ska punk, and it's wonderful)
10. Miles Davis - Flamenco Sketches (Speaks for itself, really)

I mentioned Phil Collins ... ;)
Darth:
Yeah, allright! :) Nice to see someone else likes Queensryche here!
I think many people who simply put aside metal as "stupid music" should really try and listen to them, and especially their "Operation Mindcrime" (http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/queensryche/operationmindcrime.html), as I said.Ã, Ã,Â
A great concept album, both muscially and lyrically.Ã, Everytime i listen to it, I get just as pulled in to the story as the first time I heard it...
People often call them "Thinking Man's Metal", and I agree... :)Ã,Â
[/fanatic rambling]
Ã,Â
Tomorrow Never Knows has got to be my least favourite Beatles track, followed closely by Within You, Without You (as you can see, I don't really go in for psychadelia). The song immediately before Tomorrow Never Knows (prize to people who know what that is) is probably my very favourite Beatles song.
As for my other favourite songs, I can name some songs I like, but I can't really put them in any order of preference:
Put the Money Down - The Who
The Seeker - The Who
How Many Friends - The Who
Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
Strawberry Fields Forever - The Beatles
What I Got - Sublime
Ball and Chain/5446 - Sublime
Walkabout - Red Hot Chili Peppers
There are many more, but those are the ones that sprung to mind.
I like so many kind of music that it is reeeeeeaaaaaaally hard to pick top 10... but I'll try.
Beastie Boys - Alive (I found Beastie Boys' collection album in the local library. I had heard only few Beastie Boys songs earlier, and this hit really hard)
Blackalicious - Deception (my friend had some Blackalicious' song. I hadn't heard about the whole artist earlier, and I found his music good and kinda original)
CKY - 96 Quite Bitter Beings (right after I heard this for the first time, I've liked this one a lot)
Don Johnson Big Band - Helsinki Cadenza (just great, probably the best Finnish rap song, even though the vocals are in English)
Iron Maiden - Infinite dreams (pure classic! My brother has been listening to IM as long as I can remember so I've been basically listening to IM as long as I can remember. The whole 7th son of a 7th son album is great!)
Iron Maiden - The trooper (another classic!)
Monkey Island main theme! (do I need to say more? :P )
RCHP - Otherside (the song that got me hooked to RCHP)
RCHP - Californication (just great)
The Offspring - Pretty fly (I remember hearing this for the first time... I was at school and some older students were listening to this. I liked it so much that I ordered the album and been The Offspring fan after that)
Difficult... Mmmm... Not in order... And the list changes regularily... ;)

Where is my mind? by the Pixies.

Barcik, it's actually not Metallica that has made the song, it's Megadeth's Dave Mustaine who was Metallicas first guitarist. Metallica took almost all songs Dave did after he was kicked out of the band for drinking to much.
Without knowing the full story, I can easily and logically explain why this statement doesn't hold water. In "Kill 'Em All", out of the 10 songs Mustaine took part in writing only 4. Hetfield and Ulrich, who founded the band, took part in 9 and 8, respectively. According to the little booklet, Call of the Ktulu was written by Ulrich, Hetfield, Mustaine and Burton. Now, looking at history, where Ulrich and Hetfield wrote most of the stuff, I can safely presume that Mustaine's part of the job was writing the neat solos, maybe throwing some ideas, but no more. Furthermore, if there is one person behind the song it is undoubtly Cliff Burton. You see, Burton didn't take part in writing any Metallica songs, as far as I remember, except for all 4 instrumental ones. So, naturally, if anybody is the driving force behind Ktulu, it his him.
Cant really say which ones :p but all Naruto songs.
Got to get you into my life?
Puddin'?
Barcik, that may be true but however it's not known who composed the song, for example: Dave mustaine made the song Mechanix, but on the record "Kill 'em all" Metallica plays the same song only it's called "The Four Horsemen". Also in an interview on behind the music VH-1 Dave tells all about Metallica stealing his material for their first record and how pissed off Dave was. Why couldn't it be the same about "Call of the Ktulu"? I still belive Dave was involved in it more than anybody else for some reason. On Megadeth's newest album "The World Needs a Hero" there is a song that reminds very very much of the main riff in "Call of the Ktulu".
AC/DC - Long Way to the Top
Queen - Who Wants to Live Forever (Highlander Soundtrack)
Don Maclean - American Pie
Peter Allen - I Still Call Australia Home
Rob D - Clubbed to Death
KISS - I Was Made For Loving You
Janes Addiction - Jane Says
Fiona Apple - Across The Universe
Detroit Grand Pubahs feat. Miss Kitten - After School Special
AC/DC - Shook Me All Night Long
Its not in any order, but those are the songs that I could listen to hundreds of times in a row and not get sick of them.
I dunno if I call all of them "songs" because my universal rule about my taste of music is "The less singing, the better" but...
10. Estima - Hitman's paradise
9. Spice Girls - Viva forever (Strange thing about me to like it)
8. E-Type - Free like a flying demon
7. York - On the beach
6. Necros - Mechanism eight (best Unreal Tournament track)
5. Down Low - Johnny B
4. Livin' Joy - Dreamer
3. DJ Tiesto - In My memory
2. Orbital - Halcyon
1. <insert random song from Beam vs. Cyrus here>
Yes, really another way. Mostly synthetic only.
QuoteI mentioned Phil Collins ... Wink
And for that, I commend you DM. Of course, Phil Collins' solo stuff was much poppier than the first three quarters of Genesis' material.
Again, like every other person here, this is just a snippet of some of my all-time faves, is not in order, and is only what I can think of on the spot. Also, I'm leaving out Japanese songs and my beloved swing music ^_^
Kiss - God Gave Rock and Roll to You
Queen - The Show Must Go On
Queen/David Bowie - Under Pressure
David Bowie - Underground
David Bowie - Thursday's Child
Bedlam - Magic Carpet Ride
Cure - Close to Me
The Darkness - Growing On Me

A nice tasty selection of jazz fusion, progressive metal, psy-trance and jazzy wierd drum n bass
I have more than 10 top songs.. Excuse me while I post away 15 or so. 10 is not nearly enough.
Danzig, How The Gods Kill
I swear, this is the only song that ever made me cry.
Lacuna Coil, Entwined
It's a nice, "cold' sounding song, it's so depressing and wonderful.
Dimmu Borgir, Puritania
You have to hear it to understand. It's... menacing and awesome.
Nightwish, Wish I Had An Angel
Your perfect mix of grindy metal and soft sounding vocals. Gotta love symphonic metal.
Children Of Bodom, Triple Corpse Hammerblow
It's a lovely, fast song and it's got very nice keyboards. CoB are insane and awesome.
Soilwork, Sadistic Lullaby
Another song you have to hear to get. It just has that speed and feel that's really stirring.
Prodigy, Breathe
Didn't think I'd put techno in a mainly metal list, did you? It's a nice song, it's "heavy" for the style too, and catchy.
Thrice, Blood Clots And Black Holes
Emocore! You just have to sing along with this one. It's really stirring.
Cradle Of Filth, Mannequin
Have to hear to understand. It's softer than black metal, but it's still pretty heavy, and fast.
Killswitch Engage, Declaration
This one really hits you in the chest.
Iron Maiden, 2 Minutes To Midnight
I like the story the lyrics tell in this one, and it's very ear pleasing.
Blood Brothers, Doctor!Doctor!
Like all of their songs, this one is extra trippy, and it breathes pure desperation.
Rammstein, Du Hast
It's hard not to love Du Hast. It's very catchy and heavy at the same time.
Pantera, This Love
It's a slow, trippy song. I listen to it when I'm sleepy. In fact, I'm listening to it right now.
From Autumn To Ashes, After Dinner Payback
Emocore, again. Heavy and screamy yet still unmistakably emocore.
Eh, that's pretty much it for my favourite songs. I listen to a lot of different stuff, from emocore to grindcore.
10. Long Distance Rounaround - YES
- Just some incredible guitar playing, great counterpoint between the three instruments of Guitar, Keys and Bass.....
9. Love Lies Bleeding/Funeral For A Friend - Elton John
- This epic off of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is one of the greatest pieces of rock music ever written. If anyone ever doubts that Elton John is a genius, they need to listen to this.
8. When The Levee Breaks - Led Zepplin
- No drums on any rock song have ever sounded better. What a mix. Put it on in stereo, and watch it swirl around you!
7. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - Genesis
- Prog rock greatness
6. Billy Breathes - Phish
- The end coda to this song is the most beautiful piece of music ever written. It makes me cry. It is the finest thing ever recorded by this band, and the pinnacle of their career, which to me, is more than just a bunch of stupid potheads following them around.
5. When The Circus Comes To Town - Los Lobos
- Possibly the saddest song ever written. Makes me weep, and think of everything I ever did wrong in my life.
4. Voodoo Chile - Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughn
- Mysticism channeled through six-strings. Unreal. Both versions have such dark power to them, it's captivated me for years.
3. Hells Bells - AC/DC
- Best opening riff to a song, EVER! Anytime I plug in my electric guitar, I gotta wail this one out.
2. Bitches Brew - Miles Davis
- Okay, this ENTIRE ALBUM is just crazy, and a great example of what the 20th century can accomplish in terms of crazy music. Sometimes words aren't needed, and people forget that. Lyrics are far too often a crutch for the simpleminded to lean on. "Anything that is too stupid to be said is sung....." - Voltaire
1. Dogs - Pink Floyd
- Stop. Do Not Pass Go, leave your home and buy Pink Floyd's 1977 album, ANIMALS, if you do not already own it. If you don't like Pink Floyd at all, don't worry, you can listen to your Justin Timberlake and be happy. BUT if you like Floyd and all you know is Dark Side and The Wall or Wish You Were Here - GET ANIMALS. It is their greatest album of the seventies.

Wow. That's 10 already. Ok. I also like Maroon 5, Hot Hot Heat, 311, Gorillaz, and Blackalicious.
Also, someone said they liked "Video Killed the Radio Star" but didn't know who it was by... It's by Buggles. Big Reel Fish (Reel Big Fish?) made a remake of the song, and it's really good too.
Sigur Rós, good taste that man.
Wasn't it PUSA that covered Video Killed The Radiostar?
Video Killed the Radio Star was originally by Bruce Woolley & The Camera Club. It was covered by The Buggles, Yes, Racoon, Brown Derbies, UNC Clefhangers, Billy Idol, Presidents Of The United States, Nine Days, Custard, Erasure, Paisley Wheelchair Experience, Weston, pillows, Hi-Posi, Ben Folds Five, Lolita #18, Bouncing Souls, Better Than Ezra and Glenn Hughes (according to The Covers Project).
The Buggles never did anything else.....
You all listen to dirty pop, rock and hard things, and to something I havent mentioned but anyway, nobody loves reggae here I see.

Btw - That Dimmu song, "Puritana", is the one which goes "I am war, I am pain", or something like that, right?
Yup :) I saw that clip aswell.
It's too hard to make a list of only 10 songs, so here is a list of 10 bands that are immaculate:
Budgie
Beatles
Queensyrche
Pink Floyd (well, not so much the Roger Waters stuff, "The Wall" was kind of lame, Animals owned)
The Who
Captian Beyond
Simon and Garfunkel
Max Webster
MegaDeth
Howlin' Wolf

Never heard of Sublime, eh?

Dude, I used to give reggae a gander, but I can only take so much of it. It reminds me of all my hippie friends who are just stoned and can tune out the repetitive chords and off-time beats.
Most of my friends were hippies in college. We were PhishHeads.
the Buggles were formed by Geoffrey Downes, who later was invited to join Yes. After Yes, he and Steve Howe formed Asia, which stands to this very day.
My top 10 all depends what mood I'm in:
(in no particular order)
1. Hard Lines, Sunken Cheeks - Pantera
2. Stupid Girl - Cold
3. No-one - Cold
4. Deep Colours Bleed - Systematic
5. Orchids - Stone Sour
6. Never Let It Go - Mushroomhead
7. Who'll Stop The Rain? - Creedence Clearwater Revival
8. Beginning Of The End - Systematic
9. Stairway To Heaven - Led Zepplin
10. Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Hmm. This list has and will continue to change at any time without notice, but for the moment I'd probably say (in no particular order):
Fey - Se Lo Que Vendra
Into the Sky (Xenogears)
Paulina Rubio - Si Tu Te Vas
Solid Desire (opening theme from Shadow Skill OVA)
Fey - Vertigo
Paulina Rubio - Libre
Magus' Theme (Chrono Trigger)
The Underground Castle (first dungeon) BGM from Soul Blazer
Fey - Romeo y Juliet
The Man with the Machine Gun (FF8)

-Bonnie Tyler - Black Velvet
Wasn't that Alannah Myles?
Yeah, I copied from the file name on my computer: 'Bonnie Tyler - Black Velvet.mp3', which is wrong.
10 songs, now that's difficult, my fave song lists changes so often, depending on my mood, the time of the year and so on... I'll give it a try though. In no particular order, besides the first song:
1) Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
* The Pixies - Where is my mind?
* Deep Purple - Child in Time
* Paradise Lost - Enchantment
* Placebo - Without you I'm nothing (meh :P)
* Bob Dylan - Blowing in the wind
* David Bowie - The man who sold the world
* Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
* Metallica - Fade to Black
* The Gathering - Travel
Kashmir is indeed, great. Someone heard "New kid in town" by teh Eagles?
Lazy, you've got pretty good taste.
I myself would never be able to give a top ten list of songs....it would take forever and I'd hate to leave so many songs out. I mean, at least fifty songs are more or less equally good, and shift from day to day depending on mood, etc.
Reggae... I should never have put up that list. I always forget something. I must've had a blockage, since I almost exclusively listen to reggae these days. Lee Perry, Bob Marley, Smokin' the goats etc. I own albums by all three...
Best songs ever is too hard, I do have favourite bands and albums but what I'm really into at any one time varies a lot and any 'best ever' list would be a bit silly. So here's ten I dig at the moment:
Beatles - Helter Skelter
Dirtbombs - Your Love (Belongs Under A Rock)
Brothers Johnson - Strawberry Letter 23
Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road
Super Furry Animals - Liberty Belle
Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker
Ben Folds Five - Jane
Spencer Davis Group - Keep On Running
Franz Ferdinand - Love And Destroy
Doors - Touch Me
Anyone here make mix tapes for their car or train trip or whatever? One of my pastimes, a lot of artistry to making a truly good mix I think.
I'm a self-indulgent bastard, so I'm gonna write a painful amount about a bunch of my favorate songs:
Lets see...
Linda Scott: I've Told Every Little Star – an old 60's doo-wop tune that I first heard in Mulholland Drive, and I'll be damned if it isn't just about the catchiest pop tune I ever heard. Twee as all get out, but who cares?
Glenn Cambell: Wichita Lineman – another cheesy easy-listening choice, but in my book the melody on this one simply cannot be beat. I have to admit I hate that fucking "I need a small vacaeeeyyy-sheuunn" bit, but I guess that’s my cross to bear.
King Crimson: Sleepless – I'm thinking of the version on the Absent Lovers live album here, for what its worth. *Fantastic* bass line, and the two guitarists are just kicking up a storm just like super-cool guitar gents should. Energetic and powerful as hell, I think.
'Fracture' and
'Starless' by the same band (or half of the same band, to be exact) would also go on my list - songs longer then 10 mins don’t get much better then those two.
Talking Heads: The Great Curve – holy christ is this a cool song. Hypnotic is the word.
Autechre: Rae (better known as track 3 on LP5) – this is just beautiful, another hypnotic song. The catchiest drum patterns I've ever heard.
REM: Near Wild Heaven – the chorus of this one does something to me.
Bob Dylan: It's Alright Ma (I’m only bleeding) – mainly because I think it has pretty much the best set of lyrics ever, but it's a fantastic dark, edgy folk tune anyway.
Metallica: The Thing That Should Not Be – admittedly I only heard it for the first time this week, but right now I'm addicted to it. The way the main vocal part segues into the guitar riff in the verse sections is pure audio heroin.
Motorhead: Ace Of Spades – if I had to sum up the very concept of Rock 'n' Roll with a single song, I'd probably have to pick this one.
Pixies: River Euphrates – I've never heard a song that sounds anything like this one. It's like something from another planet. Those rah-ooo-rah-ooo harmony bits are just wonderful. And the lyrics are all in Haiku form! I mean, how good is that!?
Scott Walker: Farmer In The City – odd half-crooner half-opera styled track, but I just love it. As haunting as any song I've ever heard.
The Who: Heaven and Hell (Live at Leeds version) – probably my favourite Who song ever, and friggin' John Entwhistle wrote it, of all people! Amazing chunky rockin' sound, and Pete's guitar solo just kicks my arse. And I don't usually care about guitar solos.
Beach Boys: Girl Don't Tell Me – no one ever seems to notice this one, but I just love it. Probably the most Beatley song they ever did. My other Beach Boys favourite:
'Till I Die. Christ, that's an unsettling song to come from such a happy band. But that's growing insanity for you, I guess. Oh, and I can't forget
"Busy Doin' Nothing" - my *other* all time favourite Beach Boys track. I just love all three of these songs.
How many was that? About 15? Oh well. Looking at it, I really should've stuck some Beatles and Zep on there. For who can resist a bit of Beatles and Zep? Abba's
Dancing Queen too. Man, I love that!
QuoteBlackthorn519: "Long Distance Runaround – YES"
Aw man, Yes rule. The first two thirds of Starship Trooper would be my ultimate Yes pick, though.
QuoteKinoko: "David Bowie - Thursday's Child"
Cool, it's always good to see stuff from "Hours" getting appreciation for once – I think it's one of the best Bowie albums, but most people seem to think it's one of the worst. New Angels Of Promise is my fave off that one, though.

John Entwistle (no h!) wrote a load of great Who songs. Most of his had a very dark sense of humour, or interesting themes (Boris the Spider, Heaven and Hell, 905, My Wife etc).

Don't forget Trick Of The Light! Great riff on that one. He also wrote Fiddle About on Tommy (and I bet last year Pete was pretty glad John was the one who got the credit for that part of the story). But yeah, he wrote some good tunes.

Tell me about it. I'm constantly amazed by how overlooked it is. It's easily my favourite all-around Bowie album because I love every song on it without exception. It's just got such a nice mood to it and if you're a fan of David Bowie's voice rather than his look or eccentricity (though I love those too! ^_-) this is the album to get. It's cooooooool, man. B)

I want it! I would kill a bunny for it. No! TWO bunnies! That is how much I want it! The only Bowielicious thing I own is the Labyrinth soundtrack.
Anyway, here are my top ten of all time songs in no particular order, 'cause I love them all.
1. Queen - Under Pressure
2. David Bowie - China Girl
3. Super Tramp - Bloody Well Right
4. Pain - Julie Said Futz (I blame Eric for that one)
5. Etta James - Someone to Watch Over Me
6. Dr. Hook - Queen of the Silver Dollar
7. Cyndi Lauper - Goonies R Good Enough
8. Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot
9. Grandmaster Flash - White Lines
10. GWAR - Saddam A Go-Go
To be honest, I had a lot of trouble deciding which Queen song and which David Bowie song I wanted to chose. Anything by David Bowie and almost anything by Queen (yes, there are some Queen songs I cannot stand) would fit just as well, if not better, up there. I suppose I could say that's my top ten favorite songs, but my favorites are always changing. Sometimes I'll be obsessed with a song and think it's the greatest and listen to it over and over and over, but then a few weeks later, I'll skip over it when it comes up on my playlist. I'm fickle!
Hey, Pesty, you have GWAR, and "Saddam A Go-Go", on top of it all, on your list? Haha, that's really cool - I thought nobody knew of them here... I think everybody has to reconsider their idea of an "Extreme Image" after seeing these guys...
I got part of the video from "Saddam..." as well... It's bloody brilliant... :DÃ,Â
And as a sidenote - "A Hundred Years" with The Cure is now officially on the list of greatest songs ever... So wonderfully bleak and haunting... :)Ã,Â
Here is my list.
1. Queen/ bohemian rhapsody
2. Queen/ Ride the wild wind
3. Status Quo/ In the army now
4. Pink Floyd/ Another Brick In the Wall
5. Sweet/ Balroo Blitz
6. Queen/ Who Wants To Live Forewer
7. Queen/ Innuendo
8. Status Quo/ When I'm Dead and Gone
9. Status Quo/ The Wanderer
10. Queen/ The Show Must Go On
What can I say. I love songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
This is a very High Fidelity-sort of question, and the kind of thing where you change your mind the moment you've replied. Let's see...
Lou Reed - Andy's Chest
The Clash - Janie Jones
The Ramones - 9 to 5 World
Nick Cave - People Ain't No Good
Velvet Underground - Inside of your Heart
Joan Jett - Crimson and Clover
Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust (I actually prefer their version to Bowie's)
Stiff Little Fingers - Barb Wire Love
David Bowie - Life on Mars
Pink Floyd/Roger Waters - When the Tigers Broke Free
Looking back at the list, not a single of the songs are even the best ones by the artist in question. If I had written the list yesterday or tomorrow, I bet only one or two songs would be the same.
Oh yeah, big applause for the guys with Cyndi Lauper on their lists. Gotta respect that.

I love GWAR. Saddam A Go-Go is a brilliant song, but I've never seen the video! I was torn between putting that and Warghoul on, because both are so great. Talented musicians, those fellas.
Argh, I thought I wouldn't do this, but here goes (without order):
Love A house is not a motel
The Knife Heartbeats
Elvis Costello Watching the detectives
Eric Burdon and The Animals Hotel hell
Donovan Curry Land
Leonard Cohen So long, Marianne
Melanie Any time at all (by Beatles)
Beatles hmm...why not While my guitar gently weeps
The corals Dreaming of you
Bob Dylan I want you
And ten more on the same first position:
Jehtro Tull Thick as a brick
Lou Reed Sword of Damocles
Thin Lizzy Waiting for an alibi
Queen Under pressure
U2 Sunday bloody sunday
The kinks Village green preservation society
David Bowie Rock n roll suicide
Deep purple Child in time
Led Zeppelin All of my love
Ten years after I'd love to change the world
Cream Pressed rat and warthog
heck, I can't do this, for every song I write I come to think of a new one
