Hullo peeps,

we had a small discussion about this at Brittens and I thought I might aswell let the rest of you know. I will be going to the army on Monday (10th of January). I'd rather not go but you know what kind of place Finland is.

As for how long I have to be there, 6 months probably (and I shall do my hardest to be free on 8th of July!) but maybe 9 or 11/12 months as well.

I will be allowed to visit home every now and then, maybe every other weekend or so. Of course during this time I can not work on anything AGS-related stuff other than coming up with ideas. I would like to apologise terranRICH, Vel, Creed Malay, Squinky and Magintz for not getting your music done in time. I was very inspired before Christmas (and I worked a lot on Goldlagoon) but after that I have had very little inspiration to do anything game related work. So you guys might want to ask someone else to finish up the music unless you don't mind your game delaying for months. :P

I heard the first two months are the worst and after that it just gets easier and easier. I guess I'll manage okay, I've been preparing myself for some time now (running and stuff). And when I come back I expect to see lots of new games being released. Also, if I'm free on 8th of July I might be able to attend Brittens again! (if you held them sometime in July - August...)

Uhm, I guess that's all. See you when I'm here.

No! Don't go! You mustn't!

Anyway. Good luck. Hope all goes well and everyone gets along. Hoopefully you get to touch weaponary.

I think after the first two months you'll settle into the routine and it won't be so bad.Ã,  You'll figure out how to manage your time and don't be surprised if you find time for us AGSers here!

I truely believe that, later in life, it's an experience you'll (most likely) be glad you had.Ã,  Life is just a serious of experiences.Ã,  You might as well enjoy them if you're able!

Now, having said that, I must say this: I know very little of the army in Finland.Ã,  But hey, if they let you blow shit up and can't be all that bad!

Safe journey Pete!

Squinky

Bummer man, hope all goes well and definately don't worry about me and my projects, they can wait till your around again I'm sure....Good luck dude...

BerserkerTails

Take care of yourself Petteri, okay? I'm sure you'll do fine, and we'll all still be around to celebrate your return. Good luck!
I make music.

Iwan

So this is why you couldn't enter the ATC with creative minds. It's a real shame though. I really enjoyed working with you on the hamlet. Good luck and I hope all goes well!

Ow, good luck Pete...

I'd hate going to the army... I think that's a decision one has to do, but I don't know if you go by your own decision or it is obligatory in Finland to do it...
Keep us informed!

Take care...

Scummbuddy

Good luck with everything, and stay safe.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Conscription is one of those ideas that should follow Fascism and forced atrittion  into the dark shadows of history.

Best of luck to you man. hopfully no one will invade Finland and as long as your government stays out of the bloody clutched of the Bush Regime, you should avoid being deployed to any of the "Hot Spots" in the world.

I think Conscription should consist of nothing more then a 2 weeks weapons training course and someone saying:  "good!, now if anyone invades, everyone shoot at them!" and that being it.

That's great, Petey!

I'm not sure how different Finland's military training procedures are from the U.S.'s, but yeah, the first while is kind of tough.Ã,  You have to get used to getting up at 5 or 6 am, doing P.T., getting yelled at by two drill seargants at the same time for a minor mistake, being ordered around (don't let the drill seargants scare you; if you get in trouble, the worst they can do is make you do P.T., or make you clean the head), etc.Ã,  During the first month or two, you may wonder from time to time, "what did I get myself into?"Ã,  But yeah, you will eventually get used to it, and it won't be so bad anymore.

So, take care.Ã,  Make sure your bunk is made properly, keep your footlocker locked, don't talk back, and whatever you do... don't mack on any of the females in basic training with you... unless you like doing a lot of P.T..

I'm sure you'll be fine, though.Ã,  Godspeed!

What is your M.O.S. (job/specialty) going to be?
Watch, I just killed this topic...

Wow, Petteri will be turned into a human war machine! :o

Actually, after first 2-3 months, after you get used to routline and your squad, you will get bored as hell.
Then again, if that time comes, restrictions get really low, my friend who is also serving right now, spends most of his day sitting in internet and chatting. You will get more home then too.

Good luck to you, though I think it's a big waste of precious time, I just had to tell psychiatrist what an anti-social game maker I am and how great time it is right now when I finally found a job and getting a life - "Okay, go continue your life" is what she said. And wrote "not acceptable" to the commission paper.

Hah, I've been doing that since I was 13.

Creed Malay

Good luck Pete, and don't worry at all about the music. I am sure you will be fine, and if you are lucky, you may also be taught how to kill goats just by staring at them.  And that is a skill everybody wishes they had.
