Title: Ideas for competitions
Post by: Steel Drummer on Mon 12/06/2006 00:56:08
I had two ideas for a competition and was wondering if anyone would want to do something like this:

1. A photography competition, the winner gets to set the topic of the next round.

2. A short film competition (the film is no longer than two minutes or so). Same type of thing.

I think they're both good ideas, but they'd have to be anual or something. Or for the photography, maybe every season. Would they be themed?

Then I must ask, how Photography?

What would be the rules?

No Digital Camera?
No adding of special effects?

etc. stuff like that.

Nice idea....

The Photography Comp is a good idea. The short film one, not so good.

I think it shouldn't restrict any type of camera, be it digital or analog, or amateur or professional. After all, the quality of the image is 90% the theme, composition and idea, with the remainder going to picture quality. So, it's mostly up to the skills of the photographer. No special effects/enchancements goes without saying. That would totally ruin the point of the competition.

I'd also like to suggest that we leave comedy out of this. I'm going to abandon the competition if we start seeing 'funny' pics, MySpace portraits or Disco's tuna beards :D as entries.

Spoilsport.  You're just scared of Disco entering.  At all.

No Digital Camera?

I only use a digital camera and wouldn't enter if the rules restricted me from one. I think digitals should be allowed, however no special effects. (And tuning brightness/contrast doesn't count).

I think suggesting no digital camera for a competition where the pictures have been transferred onto a computer would make for a very select few able to enter. No?

And I'd like to use my mobile phone as a camera!

Why would you possibly want to not allow digital cameras? The alternative is that photos have been scanned in, which generally leads to a worse result!

Woa, thanks for the feedback. Apparently, there should be a photography comp. I think I'll mae it weekly (or bi-weekly), and the prizes will be the same as the other comps (a pixeled trophy and getting to set the rules for the next comp). A short film comp actually woudln't work too good as the film would take up lots of space. Photography comp it is! I'll get to work setting a theme for the first comp...

films wouldnt necessarily take up loads of space if you had a file format rule as to have the lowest possible download times... although dial-up users had best stay away from it anyway.

yeah but mostly file size depends on the file format.
Do you remember what the file extention was?
