Title: Imageshack : anybody having issues uploading with the "new" site?
Post by: Monsieur OUXX on Fri 10/01/2014 17:13:47
I know many AGSers use Imageshack for image hosting. Or at least they used to.

They have this "new site" thing (now they have a fancy interface probably full of HTML 5), with albums and stuff.
Of course, they removed the "alternative uploader". You know, that old-school uploader that all sites (like facebook) offer when the script-based uploader fails.
Problem: The fancy uploader fails for me. I can't upload any file. I tried with both Chrome and Firefox.

Anybody having the same issue?

Heh, they now have interface similar to mediafire.
To be honest, I never liked their old interface, looked too clumsy to my taste.
Can't say I like the new view very much, they display all images maintaining their size proportions, looks like a tiles puzzle game (wtf).

Tried uploading now, works for me. Using Google Chrome 32.0.1700.72.

There's a ton of decent free image hosters out there these days, if one doesn't work for you, just use another one. I use imgur (http://www.imgur.com) for example.

what dkh said. I switched from imageshack to imgur 3-4 years ago and didn't regret it a single day!

Tried it using IE and Chrome and it both worked for me (but I don't like).

I rarely use it anymore.
I switched to imgur and directupload some times ago and most of the times use directupload now.

I've had trouble in the past with it rejecting my images as "not supported file type" or some such, when they should have been accepted. So I stopped using it.

Edit. It worked fine before that, used same software to create my PNGs.

Oh well,

I should then switch to imgur. I don't like using new services because every new registered account means a deeper and more irreversible footprint on the interwebs. But in this case I guess I have no choice.

You don't have to register on imgur.

Today I learnt something! It really shows how cheap data storage has become : they make more money by hosting tons of anonymous pictures than trying to squeeze their personal details out of every uploader.

Having said that my issue got fixed magically:
- I had Chrome open. The upload was failing.
- I opened Firefox: failing there too
- I killed explorer.Exe and retarted it: upload still failing in both browsers
- I closed both Firefox and Chrome and re-opened Chrome: the upload started working.

It means some third-party service or app (underlying to both browsers and shared by them), but not the windows Explorer, was failing and got restarted when I closed both browsers. Maybe the Flash virtual machine. Computer magic.
