Title: In search for interest in German
Post by: Tuomas on Mon 05/11/2007 20:23:25
Hi there.

As some of you know, I'm pretty much going to study German filology, language and culture in the university of Helsinki from next year. But I still have to get in to the university. Now i'm pretty interested in the issue, and I've been looking for places to speak German just to better my general knowledge in it. And I started thinking one lonely night, I have too few forums to write to. I mean the AGS is getting kinda worn out, ProgArchives is a bit limited to only one subject and France24 is french, suomi24 is naive and finnish. I was thinking if there's one like these in German, or something that the German people here use and/or could recommend. I know it's a bit daft asking here, but I didn't know what to look for. This far I've been just listening to the BVB internet radio when ever they're playing, but I'd love to have a so called reason to write also.

If you can help me find something, I promise I'll thank you in the first Hegel classic I translate to English, Finnish, Swedish and French ;) (yeah, I've got ambition). Anyway, I think I made my point, I hope someone could advice me to somewhere where people speak German, thanks :D

How about Adventure Treff? You would have a common interest, and most people there are bilingual too, so you could resort to English if you're stuck with German.

I just realised that I, though German, aren't a member of any German board... Creepy.

Or we could PM in German. Could be fun.

Ah, this seems brilliant, they even have their own section for AGS :) I'll check it out, thanks. Now if I only could find some politics ;)

Ah... this one is considered extremely good by a friend of mine, and he's a banker.  :D

I just skimmed it, but it seems to be quite diverse and, always a good point, rather open-minded.

Wow, I owe you one mate. These two are just what I was looking for! Though I should believe this means less talk in here from me (perhaps not that bad, but still). Especially the latter is really interesting.

Kewl. I feel like a voyeur in some private conversation.

C'mon, people, spice it up. We want the dirts.

Another good way if you wanna practice writing in German would be to register at www.studivz.net

It's basically the German equivalent to facebook and it seems like every German student has an account there (me included  ;)). There are groups (and therefore forums) for like every topic imaginable.
I spend way too much time there...

StudiVZ can be pretty addictive. I'm in there too... I do not exactly consider it a forum, though, it's really more like facebook, as venus said. I wouldn't value it too high, the rules have been tightened recently and you're hardly allowed more than exchanging private or billboard messages. The group forums tend to dry out quite quickly as I see it.
If you know that you're going to find old classmates or friends it's okay, but as a way to make contacts it's overrated...

RUI: You want the spicy talk  ;D I could give a nice recipe for hot rice bowl with peanut butter sauce.
