Title: Internet for pop-culture history = totally useless!
Post by: Tuomas on Thu 29/01/2009 21:20:33
I'm pretty upset.

I have an appointment at the "hair dresser's" tomorrow, and I've been looking for examples of the hair that I'd want on the internet. 70's short hair, or something like the 60's, say, the Beatles/the Monkees. But there's really no such oppportunity for men there. You see, it's been a while since I went looking for clothing instructions to have my mom make me pants etc. The same problem:

There are only like 5 images that originate back to those times and a really, you know, vintage. And I've started hating retro because of this. Everything made in the 2000s is considered retro, and when you search for 60s clothes you get an image of Jessica Simpson. And all the retro is just so stereotypical. No ordinary clothes or anything. Every search from the 60s is an exact replica of Austin Powers, and that's not how I want it to be.

I want a bloody greasy short hair-do and tv-screen sunglasses... but there aren't any. All that's left are the John Lennon round glasses and something some fag wears in a High School Musical. A big whote smile, a huge jaw and Christiano Ronaldo hair... not really 70s, is it?

Damnit!

It's not true.

I just googled 'Mullet' and received 323 000+ image results.

*feeling so depressed now*

And for that reason alone, I'm going for the mullet!

Didn't Google just put tons of images from 100+ years of Life magazine (http://images.google.com/hosted/life) online? Seems like you should be able to find just about any 70s or earlier hairstyle there.

/me is wondering what Tuomas means by "hair dresser's" :D

Heheh...no idea how I could help you. I used to have a MacGyver mullet as a kid, but people knew what that looked like back then.

Glasses? (http://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/products/retro/)
Clothing? (http://www.ballyhoovintage.com/mens601.html)
Hairstyles? (http://hairstyletwist.com/blog/2008/04/10/mens-retro-hair-and-fashion-60s-70s/)

I'm sorry if this isn't exactly what you want, but there are tons of other similar sites whose speciality is stuff like this. What exactly did you google?
