So...Do you have one? Do you like them? hate them? and why? :)

I have one and I'm really happy with it. There are only 2 things that bug me.
1. Compability only with special earphones (the plastic around jack has to be small enough to get into the hole in iPhone)
2. it's a bit too big after all :)

Stee

I have a 3g. Size isn't the problem, I've had no problems with earphones.

The only problem i have with it is how long the fucking thing takes to charge.

And the fact it is overpriced and underspecced.
<Babar> do me, do me, do me! :D
<ProgZMax> I got an idea - I reached in my pocket and pulled out my Galen. <timofonic2> Maybe I'm a bit gay, enough for do multitask and being romantical

SpacePaw

I kind of got one almost free (but 2G) so price wasnt problem in my case. But I have to agree that it's overpriced (like everything by apple)

Lionmonkey

My friend has got one. The only problem he mentioned was that it runs out of power and has to be recharged again too fast. What I've noticed, when he let me use it was that you can't always see what you are doing because your fingers are blockng the view, plus the screen gets messed up with oiy stains too fast.

I don't own one myself, but from what I saw about it (the boss of a tax advising agency I used to work at had me "fix" up pretty much everything remotely techie, including his iPhone... long story...) it's really no match for the gold old PDAs. Mine has very slightly worse specs than a newest-generation iPhone, but at approximately 25% of the price (and has a higher resolution to boot). Plus, less fidgety interface (although I have to admit it looks far less cool). That decision was really a no-brainer.

I don't know how much of the information here is correct, but it's still a nice article:

The only thing, and I do mean the ONLY thing, the Apple made that was even remotely "usefull" was it's OS. Even though it has problems it is, let's face, less annoying than Windows (even though if you know your stuff Windows don't have to bother you that much).
OS on Macs is a bit better at graphical stuff although it kinda lacks some customisation that Windows have (not talking about the look of it but technically) and it doesn't have register...enough said.

Anyway, Apple has a brilliant marketing strategy I'll give them that, but still why the hell should I pay 3x the price for something that has less functions than a "regular" phone. Same goes for iPod, also 3x the price plus you can't just download from any computer plus the battery that dies and has to be changed ONLY at an Apple.

Yes, iPhone is a cool gadget, still that doesn't mean it's worth the price or the hype.
I don't want the world, I just want your half

Mr Flibble

My brother has an iPod Touch with a SEVERELY cracked screen and it still works perfectly, so I can attest to the build quality if nothing else.

When I played around with it, I felt as if I was playing with something quite definitely impressive. The technology behind it and how thin it is were the main things that grabbed my attention. It seems pretty long for an mp3 player, though at least it's thin enough to fit in your pocket. I like the idea of the practical applications but there's a problem with not being able to run applications in the background (as far as I know, I could be wrong. If I'm wrong, ignore this).
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

I will also add that the thing that impressed me most is ton of small details. Like the music fading out when you got text message and then fading in again, or like when you select the place where you want to edit the text you wrote and before you fully lift your finger beam tends to jump one letter forward/backward but iPhone ignores that fact and takes it back. It has tons of small things like that. I have to admit that when it comes to user expirience apple did really good job

No...doesn't fit my requirements...so I'll wait for the Palm Pré to hit the shores of the Netherlands, for from what I can see it's closer to my wishes (plus with some mild programming better adaptable to my needs). Until that time I fully agree with Akatosh and stick to my good old PDA.

Plus I'm really not impressed by the amount of real innovation in the iPhone-development since its launch two years ago...

Wrong for 1st party (Apple) applications, not wrong for 3rd party applications...it was a dicision Apple made.

Pps. While it's not the phone for me, that doesn't mean that I don't understand why it might fit someone-else's needs and wishes...and if it does, just go for it.

Most of the snobby spoiled kids in my class have one. Some have two ,the freaking tyrants of hapless parents. And the effing annoyingstrange thing is that they all complain about them- not enough space to store all their illegally downloaded music, always low on juice, and too hard to glue glittery stuff on personalize. It's strange, but there seems to be this thin line between design and functionality...

Personally I would use one, but they are a bit too pricey for my taste.

One thing that pissed and still pisses me off as a (hobby) developer is that I considered buying an iphone in order to use it and simultaneously get into mobile game development but guess what: you can only develop for the iphone on a MAC. I know Microsoft often does the same (ie. not open-sourcing their stuff and not making SDKs available on other OSs) but Apple has the image of being 'better' than that and also they went to court often against Microsoft in order to make them change their ways. So, while Microsoft is somewhat of an evil big company that only care for money, Apple is not better in the least. At all. They just never got the chance to be as evil as Microsoft is.

Also, the Apple store is ridiculous. They reserve the right to allow what can be sold and what not and will use to enforce their political views on people. For example, they first told the team behind the politically critical TV show South Park that they could develop an app for the iphone that would allow people to watch episodes for free anywhere they are (basically a portable version of southparkstudios.com) but when the money was spent and the app was ready, they suddenly disallowed the sale of the program because they political content didn't sit well with them apparently.

Mr Jake

Waaaaaay to pricey to even consider tbh.

My roommate's sister came over one night and they started talking about the iPhone and its "mad apps." It's got an app for this and an app for that!

It took them a while to realize I was making fun of them by joining in...and by took them a while I mean I had to explicitly tell them. Even though I was mimicking them by constantly saying, "mad apps."

I sense a motivational coming on here...
iPhone
It has mad apps.

Babar

Does it have any killer apps, though?

I love my iPhone. In my pocket at all times, in one device, I have constant unlimited internet access no matter where I am, an excellent MP3 player, a phone, movies and TV shows (on my iPod or from BBC iPlayer), a voice recorder, a guitar tuner, MSN, a usable camera (although I would really like to see the camera being improved...), my photo albums, and iTunes (meaning I can sample and download new music to my phone whenever I like). I've got a recipe book with 1000s of recipes for when I go shopping. I've got a step counter and calorie counter for exercising and dieting, and I've got an app that listens to and then identifies music so that I can identify cool songs I hear being played randomly in pubs or whatever (I've gotten so much use out of that app...) I've got BBC news and the Guardian news sites bookmarked on my homepage for train journeys. I've got live train updates in fact.

I've got a shiny little entertainment system, and personally to me that is worth a lot. I can see someone like my mum would not find it so useful, but I love mine. Also someone made a point earlier about how well-designed it is in terms of usability. That is very true. It's a very polished product.

Mr Flibble

A chinese executive lost an iPhone prototype and killed himself because he knew he'd get in so much trouble for it.

Quoth the Slashdot: Want to kill yourself?

Spoiler
There's an app for that.

Are you suggesting it would be desirable to have something worse come out of a woman's body than a child? I'm not saying children are terrible, but you seem to imply it would be a travesty if Meowster was unable to give birth to some mutant demon-spawn. :D

Yes, yes, we all know cell phones cause cancer...I mean...I think it would be apparent what with the way we're all encouraged to have one with us at all times...clearly a government conspiracy!

I'm honestly hoping that Lionmonkey's post wasn't any more serious than mine.
