Title: Is anybody else having problems with the AGS boards?
Post by: Stupot on Wed 29/08/2007 17:34:21
Please delete or lock this thread if the answer is no, but:

is anybody else having problems with these forums?.. the last few days I've found them to be really slow and often the is says 'connection failed' but it's only on the AGS boards, nowhere else... and today I loaded the page up and the little image that says wether or not a board hs any new posts loaded up really strangely.

Might just be my computer.. if so, Im sorry and a mod is welcome to lock this thread.

Thanks

I experienced all that last week for about an hour or so, but its stopped now.  I just thought it was a connection problem with my internet, but it seems to have sorted its self out now.

Ditto, especially yesterday.

its a pain because it keeps taking about 2 or 3 attempts to send messages... starting to get on my nerves a bit now

Yes, I keep getting "This connection was reset" type warnings, and have to try twice to see threads sometimes.  It started maybe a couple of weeks ago?  I just click again and soldier on.

Same here. Sometimes it takes two or three tries, but it's not more than a minor annoyance.

I had this once. Just left the forums for what it was for a moment and came back later.

Ahhh, I'm definitely not the only one then.
I wonder if CJ or a mod could shed some light on this for us?

I did a few days ago, but I thought it was all the heavy traffic incoming and outgoing on my broadband at the time. I didnt shed any tears over it. :P

It says a lot about my connection and/or usage of my PC that if there were any slowdowns, I didn't notice them.

Oh, for pete's sake, I get that every once in a while. It clears up almost as soon as you refresh the page or go to another link. You're not honestly worried, are you?

EDIT - Egad, why did I have to sound so caustic.

I think that might be the new AGS site of the future.  :)

I get that once in awhile also, but you can also do that in your browser by choosing No Style under Page Style. I think it looks cool, reminds me of the internet back in the early to mid 90's.

We've checked the server and it all seems to be running normally, so it's rather strange if you guys are having problems.

I had problems a few weeks back, and now they've snuck back. Just long page loads and can't find servers, things of that manner.

Ahhh! I finally understand! You've got some absurd thing written here somewhere that you are unable to delete, and you wanted an excuse to get them removed secretly.

However, I've also been having problems, occasionally of the kind ManicMatt showed. I know it's not my connection, because I got that upgraded recently, and when the forums aren't working, other stuff is.

I haven't noticed a slowness on the site since the server switch. Am I the only person that it's totally fine and fast for, all day, every day?

I am having a problem for about one month.

I can't enter the website and the forums without using proxies! I believe it is a problem about my connection.
I am really tired of the silly p0rn advertisements that I have to see whenever I want to enter the forums or being oblicated to ask a friend of mine to find the URL of the topic in here that I need to link at somewhere else.

oh yes, because we're using an average of 560 MiB of available ram and 7.7% of our cpu power, that's way too much!
also our connection is running too hot, it's running at 1.1% of its capacity.
now tell me what to prune, i obviously can't run this thing :(

edit: i'm not running the forums but the server, in collaboration with some other people.

Yeah, the server isn't under excessive load or anything, which is why it's strange if people are having problems. I can't say I've experienced any issues myself, it seems consistently fast and reliable.

I wonder if there might be some routing issues between particular ISPs/countries and the server?

people could add this line to their hosts file and see if it helps, google how to do that:
212.227.132.49 www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk
Title: Re: Is anybody else having problems with the AGS boards?
Post by: Gord10 on Mon 03/09/2007 21:20:32
@Dasjoe: I have done this and I am able to access the "www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk" address without using proxies now. But I still need the IP of http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/ , as I am still unable to access the forums without the proxies. I'd be grateful if someone could help me to find the IP of http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/ <: )

(I will hit my head to the monitor if I ever see that p0rn stuff again)

you don't need to add www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk, navigate to http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb instead.

Oh come on, life is all about balderdash! Silliness is a large part of what makes life livable! It all just so silly! ;D

I was preparing for a healthy discussion about Baulder's Gate.

Funny, now I've been getting those 404 errors. Usually they clear as soon as I hit refresh, but this time it took me... wow, a whopping 5 seconds. Who shall restore this precious time back to my life?

No biggie, but thought it might be worth mentioning. Y'know, for that fabled record.
