I haven't seen Les around here for a long time and also haven't been able to contact him via GChat. As far as I can tell he's not on Discord.
Is anyone in touch with him in any other way and knows if he's okay?
He hasn't logged in since November of last year.
There was also a period of 3 months, or so, early last year when he didn't post at all, so...maybe he's just taking a break.
Couldn't find anything via Google regarding him (social media posts, his Kickstarter, etc.) dated later than 2022, though.
Did you try the email on his profile?
I was wondering about that. I, too, remember last year that he didn't post much and when I asked him how were things going, he told me he was taking a bit of a rest. I hope it's the case this time too.
I have an email address of his, so I could send him an email to ask how he's doing if he doesn't see this thread. I really hope he's doing OK.
I also thought about opening a thread about him, you were just quicker.
I hope he is alright.
I'd noticed he'd been inactive for a while, too. I hope he's okay.
I've just emailed him, usually I get a quicker response from GChat which is why I tried that first. I know he's had health problems and hope they're not getting on top of him. Will let you know if I get a reply.
Hope you're doing alright Slasher you legend!
Slasher, where you at brah
Any update on this? :-\

No reply at all I'm afraid. Will keep trying.
This is becoming a bit worrisome.

Agreed. :undecided:
Do you maybe have his full name and address? You could try writing a letter. If something happened to him, a letter might be received and read by a relative.
I hope he's doing alright. Absolute legend

I know his name but not address; I've tried looking up the name in the phone book for the area his AGS location is set to (assuming that's correct) but no joy. Pinged him on email and GChat again but as far as AGS goes he hasn't been online since November 22, so unfortunately it doesn't look good.
I hope he wouldn't mind me saying this (and he may have mentioned it on the forums anyway) but his health wasn't good and he did feel that Maelstrom Obscura was quite likely to be the last game he made. He had been talking about relaunching the Kickstarter and I'd said I would help him with that, but it never came to fruition. The nature of his medical condition is such that progressive limitation of movement and functionality is possible, so it may be that he's okay generally but simply unable to make games anymore and finds going online too difficult.
Anyway I'll periodically keep trying to get in touch and see if there is any other way of contacting him that I've not found so far, and overall just hope he's okay.
This is indeed worrying.
Slasher, man, I really hope you're okay.
I know he has at least one son (Luke), but I couldn't track down any current social media under that name. I did find an old MySpace page that tracks (name, area), but it wasn't much use. No luck on Twitter or Facebook.
Taking into account Les' age, and his health problems-
Spoiler
-I also checked the current death notices (morbid, I know) in and around where he lived, just to rule it out. Nothing popped, thankfully.
I guess, like CaptainD says, we'll just have to hope, and wait and see if he resurfaces. :(
Just to keep everyone updated, heltenjon has tried to contact Les' son on FaceBook (awaiting response), and Cat has potentially found a number for him, so we'll keep trying.

Good stuff. :)
Just an update, insofar as I have one...
Cat found a possible phone number for Les but I've tried it and it doesn't connect at all, so assume it's a dead line. Still no reply from any online methods and he hasn't logged onto the forums.
heltenjon has kindly reached out to a couple of relatives on FaceBook, but no response.
I'm not sure what else we can do at this stage. Les, if by chance you are still around and see this, please know we are all thinking of you.
I don't know if anyone has already been down this route but I remembered Slasher used to post as
@barefoot. So I checked that profile and there was a Skype link with an associated Hotmail address. I've sent an email to the address. Trying to message the Skype chat resulted in the message not being sent.
He also posted as
@steptoe for a time too, equally as prolific as the others,
but I can't see that profile.
[Edit]
Oh interesting... the Steptoe profile can be clicked on above but it does not appear on the member lists or search.
Just look at how many games he has made across all three accounts.
Oh I'd forgotten the Steptoe account, I knew he was originally Barefoot but it hadn't occurred to me to check the account details. Good thinking.
How many accounts has he posted under? Could he also be Icey?!
Double (triple) logins are allowed? 8-0
I remember Slasher as a flash contest participant.

He is all of us except you, Ponch. It started as an April fool joke, then took off a bit.
The AGS thing is a big hoax.
It's wonderful that Ponch never realised this.
Serious though. People did appear and disappear all the time in online communities, but Slasher's case is a bit worrisome, considering his activeness in pumping out games and his age (especially after bad news of certain forum members in the past few years). Hope he's okay.

No. Or at least not without being open and transparent about it.

Yeah, I think the rule is in place to prevent people having sock puppet accounts (pretending to be someone else),
Slasher never pretended he was someone else, though, and I don't believe he used them simultaneously. I'm not sure why he created new accounts but I've no doubt he had valid reasons even if it technically broke the rule.
I only mentioned the other accounts in the hope that they could lead to something in terms of contacting him.

I've been using AGS since 2003. It's incredible that one person committed to the bit of impersonating an entire online community for 20 years to prank me! :cheesy: Even back in the EZ Board days, when I was just a lurker, I never even suspected a thing!
Although, looking back on it, I should have known something was up when Yahtzee "left" the forums in such a suspicious way! A real person would never behave like that. :=
On a serious note, still no word from Slasher? :undecided: As an old fart myself, I worry that I'll vanish one day just as suddenly. I hope he's okay and just trying to find a way to create a fourth account without Snarky catching him.
Yeah, I remember those different aliases. Perhaps he didn't realize he could change his forum name, or perhaps he misplaced his login details and just created a new account.
Not to age-bash, but older people on Facebook, for instance, sometimes have multiple accounts, due to misplacing or forgetting login details. :-\
Slasher replied to my wall of texts as a beginner! :-D What a hero! 8-) Hope he's doing ok! Maybe he's retired from game creation ??? Since let's be honest it's not very profitable. Bills got to be paid :-\
I have received the bad news we were afraid of from Slasher's son:
QuoteHi yes my dad passed away back in November due to a heart attack
I will leave the proper eulogy writing to those of you who have known him longer than I, save to say that I will miss his humour and almost endless barrage of games. Fortunately, I haven't been able to play them all yet, though I will. Here's to you, Les. :(
:~(
Oh no. :(
Les :(
Goddamn :(
I'm saddened to hear this, although thankful to heltenjon for making contact with the family.
So long, Les - you won't be forgotten.
Well that's some saddening news to find out today. :~(
Thanks for finding out for us though heltenjon.
I can't say that I knew Slasher well, but I was definitely acquainted with his games, and boy did he make a lot of them.
I would sometimes notice him asking a question in the technical board or sharing a coding trick he had, so he was always around. I remember him finding a bug in one of my games after I released it (I even remember the game and the bug), and I made sure to fix it as soon as he spotted it. I also added him to the credits for spotting it so fast, as a way to say thanks.
I'm going to miss him, and I really do mean that. :~(
So long Slasher :~(
Keep making games in the after life, Les. We all will want to play them once we get there.
RIP
R.I.P mate.
Shit. Rest in peace, Les.
MAGS without slasher is certainly different. Rest in peace.
Ah, shit. A great friend and great guy to work with on his quirky, ridiculous, charming games.
Quite the battler, having survived a large stroke that took away his ability to do basically anything, and then clawed his way back to the point where he could create games, store massive amounts of knowledge on the quirks of AGS in his head, and help newbies whenever he could.
Your spelling and grammar always sucked balls, Les, but you know that. Will miss just knowing you're around churning out your crazy stuff.
RIP
Hm...
Well, rip.

One doesn't usually say a flippant-sounding comment like that upon finding out someone died. We pretty much know you are a rather aloof kind of fella but show some respect FFS.

I'm sure he didn't mean any disrespect. It's hard to show tone of voice in text.
The fact that he cared enough to even make a comment shows some level of respect in my humble opinion.

I'm in touch with KyriakosCH about my comment, which I'm quite ashamed of. I have apologized and I hope he accepts my apology. I totally agree with you as well. It was a stupid thing to say. I was drunk and emotional at the time and my words were misguided by those factors. Still, no excuse. I was a jerk.
(thank you, Mandle! :) You too, Dan )
Since this thread has accomplished its purpose, even though the worst outcome turned up, maybe we can lock this now and continue in the new thread (https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/general-discussion/rip-slasher/)?
