He haven't been active since 6th july
Changed his nick to ScummDead before leaving.

I surely hope he's not dead or anything.

Maybe he was just going somewhere, I don't think he's dead...
If he was dead he couldn't have changed his name and avatar, I think...

What's the problem ? He didn't post for just less than 10 days.

I just thought he was depressed and shot himself.

Gilbert, is it possible to post if he's dead? :P

Gossip..

As far as I remember, he had posted as that nick for several days already, and I don't think there're much interest in it (seeing it is probably just a joke) and it's only a few days (only time can tell), so I don't think it matters much bringing this up now.

But I was reading old PMs, and suddenly I noticed that ScummBuddy was ScummDead.
Just got me thinking. :P

Time will tell, yeah.

He got me worried there for a sec...

Somebody (Jannar) is paranoid. :P

But seriously, I always thought about that stuff... What if one of us died... who would know? Like, what if Pumaman died...?! Or what if he just gave up and got depressed or got a girlfriend and decied to neglect AGS? Who would tell whether he is dead or not?

You know, sometime last year this kid I knew from the K&P (Klik & Play) days who I hadn't  talked to for a long while posted a suicide note in his online Journal, which set out one of my old ex-Klik buddies (who I do talk to) to make me confirm that it was indeed a suicide note. I ended up trying to call his real-life friend (who was a Klik person too and was actually like the first online person I ever called (through Dialpad, if anyone ever used that)... in 1999) and it turned out that the suicide guy actually called a friend to tell him that he was killing himself. Crazy stuff.

I did wonder, though.. what if online people only knew that he was killing himself? And that's what set me out to call to make sure that someone in real life knew.

That topic has come up before, netmonkey, and it's always an interesting topic of conversation. As for ScummBuddy, he PMed me the other day telling me he would be in Arizona for vacation or something until this coming Tuesday I believe. I will be doing the same from July 24th-August 7th, just in case anybody wanted to know.

People are going to have to start putting provisions for their 'online' friends into their wills:

Please post a message on the AGS Forums informing all my Adventure Friends that I have been killed by "The Pirates of Pestulon" and no longer have to worry about the walking deads ...

Because you're right ... how would we know if a member croaked?Ã,  Now I wonder if any of the folks that have disappeared from here actually died?Ã,  Remember Xadhoom?Ã,  (well I know he's not dead 'cause I talk with him occasionally over at deviantART) but how bout some others?

Hmm ... interesting topic ... discuss.

There are about 2000 members, the chances are somebody has died. I'm pessimistic, I know

I've thought about doing that before, actually.. not for a forum, but for several very good friends that I've known for years and only talked to through the internet. I guess I could make provisions for the forum too, but I doubt anyone would notice me being gone until someone mentioned Blender and someone else said it sucked and there was that awkward month where I didn't say anything about it.

When I go to approve the deletion of old members, it always throws up some names and I think "yeah, whatever happened to them?".

For example, who remembers:
Ed20
drHansson
ProgZmax
Maria
Pod
gamester
Inquisitor
squalman
J
RPG Creator
Roy Lazarovich
2ma2
Hudang
kikme
Greg Hurst

It's been over a year since any of those people posted. Blimey, time flies.

(Before anyone asks, "deletion of old members" means deleting anybody who had less than 10 posts and hasn't posted in the last 10 months).

Who wouldn't remember those? (for different reasons, of course)
About 2ma2: He might not have logged in during the last 10 months, but I remember him posting as "2ma2-unplugged" or other nicks like that)

About Maria:
I haven't heard from her in a while (more than a year now) but seems like she had to attend to some exams (those I'm studying for ATM).

About Scummbuddy:
As Czar said already, he went off for a 2-week-trip to New Mexico

Yeah, 2ma2 had some good stuff, I wonder where he's gone?

The one I seriously thought had a heart-attack was RickJ (I have recently discovered he's just snubbing the team) He just vanished from our project forums, and hasn't come back since December.  Practically killed the project single handedly.  Why do people suddenly give up AGS?  I can't imagine just leaving, I've wanted to make an adventure game worth playing since I was a kid.  I lived an hour from one of the sierra offices in Bellevue.  Never did get a tour. ;)  I couldn't give up that dream, come hell or high water.  If my computer blew up and all of California fell off the map, I'd still find a PC to say "I'm gonna be missing for a while, buds."

As far as I know, 2ma2 is really busy with school.

In the CJ's list, almost all the names are familiar... whatever happened to them?
Title: Re: Is ScummBuddy dead??!
Post by: Andail on Sun 18/07/2004 20:38:04
2ma2 was never much of a poster, but he was one of the best game-makers around, imo, so I hope he returns.

If I'm not completely mistaken, I think DrHanson left after a fight with Helm, which leads us to Helm, who has been extremely inactive since Mittens 2003.
Roy Lazarovich was gone for several years after the release of TNOTH, but returned suddenly some year ago, published a few photos of himself playing the guitar, then left again.

Another fellow I haven't seen here since last mittens is Vargtass, even though we chatted on the phone once or twice.

The same goes for my polish soul-mate Goldmund, who hasn't even returned my letters, so I guess he's very busy or something.

Yepp, some people will neither stay or go away for good.

Why do you keep spelling it Yhatzee?

I fortunately missed any ugly fighting, I was around during all of the Rob Blanc releases and then stopped visiting the forums because of other hobbies. I still have little idea of what happened, but that's fine, no reason to dig up old graves.

2ma2.
You can hardly forget this was,is and always will be legend because the first AGS game I played was his, and i could never forget it. I got to closer to the comunity by playing Kenny rogers (tho the community didn't get closer to me :P).

Most of you prolly played Rob Blanks or Larry Vales' or somethingoranother, but when you played a 2ma2's game as your first, you NEVER forget it.

Actually, that makes you take a direction in AGS gaming production. His direction.

Okay, that's enough Czar!
Ok.

Holy heck, I just found this.

[gratuitously long speech]
Thanks everyone, especially Jannar, for caring. I was looking for an old post of mine, and found this. I wasn't expecting this. (sniff) yes, as stated I went on a long hiking trip which was in "extremely high bear activity'' so it was actually possible that i could have died. That and the extreme amount of hiking and camping that I didn't know if i was in shape for.

Yeah, I changed my nick, only as a joke, but trust me, I'm not sick. But maybe i took the ScummyDead thing lightly and maybe I shouldn't. I don't know whats going on in your lives, and it could have come up at a time you didn't need to be reminded about death.

I do appreciate it guys. It does show that this is such a great community.
[end boring speech that you've skipped ahead to the end]

ask for squalman and he returneth.

eric has his girlfriend assigned to informing us of his demise.Ã,  that's a very thoughtful notion.Ã,

But me, I think I'd rather have you all think that I was an insensitive asshole than ever know my life was cut short.Ã,  I just don't see how internet grief could ever pay off, when you'd be better off never knowing.
