Title: Just for the lulz: Funny misspelling in a game translation
Post by: Monsieur OUXX on Thu 15/09/2011 16:55:02
'Currently proofreading the dialogs from the game of this forum's favorite dyslexic.
I could read this: "He keeps his eyes closed because he doesn't want to lose the stairing contest".

STAIRING CONTEST EVERYONE!

PS: This is just a little taunt. If it ignites a haters contest I'll be pretty upset (that means I will insult people and shake my little fists).

If you're a proofreader isn't your job to proof read? Why are you repetitively taking the mick out of somebody who clearly needs help with their script? It was slightly humorous at first but after a quadruple post it's just lame.

"All your base are belong to us."

Anyway, not everyone here is a native speaker of English. That is why a lot of games have spelling and grammatical errors.

I like to laugh about funny misspelling-mistakes, but if you take them from a not released game to show them to public it get's a bad taste for me. And sorry to say, but if I understood it correct, you are the one who got it for proof-reading and not for reporting your results to the public.
If so (and I hope, that I misunderstood that part), that would make it even worse and is a kind of betrayal of trust. â€" But these are just my (http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/images/smilies/smiles2/twocents.gif)

The more mistakes you log in (from this game), the more unconvincing becomes this statement.  :(

The whole point of this thread is that the guy is an English native speaker. And I'm not.
That's what makes it funny. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Also it's funny only because I didn't name the guy or the game. Otherwise that would indeed be very mean.
Finally, I'm apparently the only one who accepted to help him, so I hate to be called the heartless one :-)

Yeah, but you made it pretty damn obvious. Which is about as mean as stating it directly.
So, helping someone and taking the piss out of him at the same time suddenly isn't such a good deed anymore now, is it? :P

Oww, you're no fun anymore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LjcQoqfmSk).
I've deleted the posts.

Where were you White Knights when this person was explicitely called a retard on this very same forum, for pages and pages?
Also when he repeatedly asked for beta testers? (and was told that his game was shit)
Once again it seems like sarcasm is more offensive than insults to some people. In my humble opinion, that's weird.

Erm... YES, yes it is. It is a good deed. Because I'm helping him, remember?

The difference between the two threads is as between a face to face confrontation and talking about someone behind their back. This doesn't necessarily mean one is right and one is wrong though.

QuoteErm... YES, yes it is. It is a good deed. Because I'm helping him, remember?

Ask yourself the following questions:

1. If Person A offers to help Person B when Person A is (presumably) older and more intelligent, with something Person B is openly struggling, does any form of bond of trust arise between them?

2. If Person A proceeds to reveal the difficulties which Person B has, and in which person A agreed to help with, publically, for the purposes of making fun of person B, is there a breach of any trust found at 1?

3. If there is a breach of trust as at 2 will person B feel assisted or betrayed by person A?

People have posted similar "taunts" in the past, about games they're working on - and they never went down well before. So I'm moving this to the Gen Gen forum. It just ain't cricket!  :=

That said - check out this sign making headlines today!

"Invalid year entry".
Is it the year-2000 bug eventually catching up on us?
