Hi all.

I want to run a problem by you all that has happened this very evening. (The Twilight Zone music plays in background.)

I have a win 7 laptop and an XP desktop.
My win 7 laptop has always been able to see my XP desktop on the home network. (There has never been a problem).
However. Tonight my win 7 laptop has decided that it no longer wishes to acknowledge my XP machine. ???
It finds my brothers win 7 comp but just will not show any XP machines. My father has an XP netbook and I can't even see that now. :(

In short. Everything win 7 it finds. Everything XP it doesn't.
It all worked perfectly before tonight and I have done nothing to stop it from seeing these comps.

Any thoughts as to why?

Many thanks.
Jay.

You can connect to the internet, obviously, otherwise I might suggest resetting your TCP/IP stack or something...
Does your brother's machine detect the XP machine?

In that case,  I'll :

1 - Check the connection of the XP Computer (I know you know but...)
2 -  (Just to be sure) : Execute --> CMD --> ip config /release
3 - Format the Win 7 computer and install XP instead.

Good Luck

Hi.

Thank you for your replies and suggestions.

I think I have found the prob.

Wonkyth.
My brothers win 7 machine could see XP, last night.
Today he received a Net Framework update and now cannot see XP. :o
So it would appear as if the update has cocked things up.

LUniqueDan.
I like option 3. I hate win 7 with a passion. ;)

It makes me wonder if XP is gradually being pushed out in favour of Win 7.
Are Microsoft, underhandedly, forcing everyone to go Win 7?

MS can have my copy of XP SP3 when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.  8)

I confess, I like 7. However, there can be no denying that it is allergic connecting to XP... Always been full of issues, there.

Unfortunately, I'm stumped. My small pool of networking knowledge overlapped with my Xp/7 interconnection problem solving skills make for a rather separated Venn diagram, it would seem...  :-\

It would appear that I am suffering the, afore said, issue.
I turned my 'Win7 Laptop' on tonight and it has, graciously, decided to show all other comps on my 'Home Network'. ???

However.
I have NEVER been able to see 'Win7' or 'Vista' on my 'XP Desktop'.
I got around this prob by allowing 'Users' on my 'XP Desktop' to change my files.
This way I can put files needed from 7, or Vista, in to XP from their computers.

I hope that you all understand my ramblings... I find it hard to understand, myself.

Thank You for your sympathy.
Jay.
