Well They've finally announced a date for the film - July 27th, 2007.

I'm guessing this is going to be an end to the whole Simpsons as it has been going very much down hill for the past few seasons and hit absolute rock bottom around Season 15.

Anyway more stuff and trailer available here

Personally I don't like the idea.  What makes a movie funny and what makes a 22 minute TV show funny can be quite different. You can make  a funny TV show episode that's just a collection of fart jokes. A movie requires at least a framework of story. As well people experienced with tv funny, rarely do well with movie funny. how many tv shows to movies were actually GOOD? I am hoping but cautiously.

Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

If Conan O'Brien wrote it, then I would most definitly see it. But I'm pretty sure he didn't. I'll just save my money for more, eventual, Futurama.

Simpsons has already been agreed to be continued to the end of it's 19th season. It's now nearing the end of it's 17th season. So that means it'll continue at least until May 2008, long after the movie.

I don't really like the idea of a Simpsons movie. The Family Guy movie was already a big bomb. The problem was as expected: 100 minutes of Family Guy was way too much for one single plot. I'm hoping Simpsons won't bomb the same way, but the signs are clear. Maybe the fact that the Simpsons movie is a feature film while the Family Guy movie was a TV movie will raise the bar a little.

This brings to mind another funny thing. Did anyone watch the newest South Park episode? It was basically an full-on assault against Family Guy. And they cleverly made it a 2-part episode, so Family Guy and the rest of the TV world would have time to react. Now I'm torn between which I like more, Family Guy or South Park :D.

Actually, I don't think this was the main problem, what I think the problem was: Originally 3 seperate episodes to be aired on tv, each written by a different person.

100 minutes on one good plot could work imo. It was kinda meh, too much changed between each episode, the direction seemed like it was gonna go one way then it changed. It was also a part of the new stuff which hasn't been as good as the old stuff, apart from a few things.

Anyway, I haven't wanted to watch any new simpsons, i'll probably watch it when it comes out but i don't have high hopes for it.

The only reason I'd want to watch the simpsons movie was if they were to have some kind of character progression in it, and somehow ended the whole thing. (Say, Monty Burns tries to take over the world and loses and becomes a bum, and Homer gives up the donuts, and it turns out they were causing him brain rot and in the last twenty minutes he has a brain. Well.. maybe that would stink, but it's just examples)

It's still going to hit big at the box office for what it is, but being the fact that it is a tv show gone movie whether it will be a cinema release is also an issue.

Another thing is that they should definatly sum something up, or at least pave way for the last season (as in the last season is the simpsons slightly older... eg bart and lisa as late teens?)

I'd like to be optimistic about this but... urg. I just can't pull a scrap of hope out. When they show a little more of it and if it really looks like they've put way more effort into this than the series in recent years (and effort into making it genuinely-Simpsons-funny, not effort into getting guest stars and 3D FX), then I might start thinking it could turn out alright.

I'm investing my hopes into Futurama right now, I don't have the energy to worry about the Simpsons too.

I think I'd be interested if they made it like Homer3... from that Halloween episode. But then again... the old writers over new ones. As us adventure fans always state: story over graphics.

It's going to suck. They should have done the movie after season 7 when the show reached its peak of greatness. And end the show on a high note.

Ugh, that would definitely be jumping the shark (in case hey hadn't already). Couple years ago I used to watch the Simpsons daily and love it. Then it went off-channel for some time. Now they're showing some late season (13th or up, I'm not really sure) weekly and usually it's just, well, bland. So I bought some 4th season DVDs and those are great once more.

Movie. Hm. Well, I'll probably go see it anyway but with low expectations. To their credit, they did have Who Shot Mr. Burns which was pretty good and lasted almost an hour. They'd have to do something like that with him as the bad guy, I suppose, and they can pad the beginning with character exposition for people unfamiliar with the series (trust me, they exist) and they have to do a LOT of cameos given the hundreds of characters actually existent.
