My theory from that video is that government made the people go and mourn Kim Jong II. Behind those camera were soldiers going "CRY OR WE SHOOT".

In the meantime Kim is singing his grave "so roneryyyyyy".

Glad that he is dead though, North Korea's human rights act is atrocious.

I'm still amazed at the PR idea of getting the best North Korean actor to say on tv how he loved and misses his leader.

Btw I remember some time ago a reporter on tv read his name from the telepromter as "Kim Jong the 2nd" as it probably read "Il", but still it was funny.

Well, since different reports suggest that Kim Jong Il could have been dead as long ago as 2002 (after his reported stroke and disappearance from public view) his son could well have been running North Korea for 9 years. They have such a stranglehold on media in that country that it's entirely plausible that he's been dead that long.

Progz, He's made several public appearances since his stroke (which I thought was in 2008), and he's visited at least Russia and China in the past year. Unless they're lying too.

From what I've heard Jong-un will be sharing power with the military. Now if Lil' Kim tried to enact democratic reforms and improve the rights of the Korean people that would be great but I'm afraid that more than likely the military would boot him out of office to keep control for themselves.

The Kims have done extremely well under the current system. In addition the North Korean people don't believe in democracy and cry in public over Ill's passing. If restrictions on information were relaxed even a little bit the people there would find out how bad they are actually doing. The ensuing anger and unrest of the population would surely dissuade Kim from then notion of any such reforms as you mention.

I read somewhere that South Korea is supposedly has a lot of money set aside for the North if/when they want to join with them, sort of a East join the West Germany situation. That's a pretty good idea, plus there's like a 0.5 million soldiers in the South (and like double in the North) and once you need less soldiers it should balance it out, plus the economy will probably boom from the stability.
Too bad that it seems the army machine in NK seems to be very hungry for power and it seems there's not much prospect for unification happening soon.

Maybe he could be North Korea's "Prince" in that aspect too! *evil grin*

Actually... *shudder* I can't imagine Kim Jong-Il as a nearly faceless pale skinned gothic prince. If the way he tortured people in life was bad, I shudder to think what it'd be like as "The Prince".
