Hi! I've been searching the web some time ago for such a tool, but I found no free tools for generating realistic 3d tree models.
It would be cool if the tool would spit out a file Cinema 4d can read (e.g. c4d, 3ds, dxf, wrl)
Alternatively I'd appreciate tips on how to do this manually with the least possible effort and most possible realism!
The only thing I know, is that Bryce5 has it's own treelab, wich let's you easily create any kinda tree you want. You only can't export it as a model. : :(
I'm sure you'll find something useful at www.renderosity.com
I once had one that would spit out DXF files. Can't remember what it was called for the life of me, but one does exist.
I'll look for it tomorrow, I don't have time now, but good luck.
Ask on some 3d forums in the meantime, cgtalk.com, elysiun.com
There are plenty of 3D trees in my garden.
Allright, not particularly funny, but like medicine, even unpleasant humour can be good for you.
Thanks to you all, I'll have a look or two at those sites.
@Andail: Our garden has some pretty realistic trees, too...
There's just a small problem with getting those into my computer, don't you think? (They're slightly bigger than 3,5" and can't be formatted to 1,44MB...)
But if you could E-Mail me one of yours... that would be great!
(I suspect that wasn't much funnier than yours... But I always appreciate a good bad joke!)
I've got one that will let you save your tree's settings or export to .DXF. It's called (crazily enough) treemaker. It's stand-alone not a plug-in. For convenience's sake, I'll see if I can find a URL for you, rather than arrange e-mail sending.
[Edit: They've got it at 3D Cafe (http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/software4.asp#) as well as a lot of other similarly handy plugins/utils. Oh, and as far as the tree jokes go, I suppose you're better off leafing well enough alone.]
i have a plug in for 3d studio max called Tree Maker
but yak's may be better let's see, hmm it's kinda weird and i don't quite understand it but you may like it
here's what i was able to do with the plugin, this is with everything pretty much on the lowest setting:

Treemake - that's the one. It was stand-alone though.
Thanks a lot, guys!
I gave treemaket a quick try, and it seems to be what I need!
(Hopefully this will make me resume work on my game!)
