Title: Language. Spanish, French or Portuguese.
Post by: RetroJay on Sat 15/10/2011 02:22:17
Hi All good peeps.

I have searched for this but am not 100% sure with the answers.
I don't want to offend anyone with my poor speech.

I wish to say to fellow workers "I am very sorry. This building is no entry on request of my boss."

How do I say this in Spanish, French and Portuguese.

Spanish, French and Portuguese lorry drivers used a room, at work, as their canteen.
However. It has now been locked because of a health risk.

I have managed to communicate with them with hand gestures and drawings.
Some of them do understand a small amount of English... But.
I would love to be able to say what needs to be said in their own language.

Please help me as I feel bad.
These are good people and have always been friendly.

Many thanks.
Jay.

I feel like my Spanish is good enough to give this a reasonable answer:

"Lo siento. Nadie puede entrar en este edificio a peticion de mi jefe."

I'm sorry, but I don't know a word of French or Portuguese :(

Hi Domithan.

That's fantastic.
I think I will write that down and just show it to the guys as my accent will not do it justice. :-[
Mind you. If they fancy a laugh I will try to speak it. ;D

Thank you for your time.
I really appreciate it.

Jay.

In portuguese:

"Desculpe, a entrada não é permitida à pedido de meu chefe."

'hand gestures and drawings' reminds me of Deadwood  :)

Hi pmartin.

Thank you.
this will be most helpful.
I can write these on a card and stick it on the door to their canteen room.

Many thanks.

Désolé, on ne peut entrer dans ce bâtiment sur ordre du chef.

That's entirely correct, but if you want to make it sound more polite and fancy, you could also say :
"Toutes mes excuses. Tout accès à ce bâtiment est interdit, à la demande de mon supérieur."
