Hi all.

I have 'Power DVD' on my comp, cos I like films.
I have also had it on other computers that I have owned, all runing XP home and Pro.

All computers have suffered the same probs.
I pause the film, while I take a piss, and when I come back my comp has locked up, solid, and I need to restart.

I have the up-to date version, and ones before, but all cause the same prob.

Any thoughts?
Jay.

Um, don't use Power DVD? There's plenty of other apps capable of playing DVDs. Try VLC.

Um, I have always used 'Power DVD' cos it's the best, supposedly. ;)

Hi Stupot.

No. That is not bad.

Although with 'Power DVD' you can take screen shots of the film you are watching and save them to pics.
If you do many screen shots then you can make animations from them.

You can make an anim of someone walking, in a film, and study it to make walk cycles better.

Jay.

I'm with ddq on this, use VLC then. Nothing wrong with VLC as far as I understand.

Well, if it freezes all the time then it's clearly not the best.

RetroJay

Ok.

So no one here uses 'Power DVD' then. (nevermind, your loss.)

It works fine on my other five machines. It just falls over on this one (can't work out why.)

Thanks for your help.

Jay.

Disco

Try holding it in.

I could try to say: then don't take a piss while watching...  ;D

I've read about problems with PowerDVD and hybernation. Are the comps with a prob on different power settings than the others? Try to not let it go to hybernation or try to change the power off settings. Are they maybe in different powermode settings (for laptops maybe)?

Also, what's more similar between the ones that have the problem and the ones that don't? Both same processor? Same keyboard (the ones with power/hybernation buttons on it)? Same casings with power buttons?

I myself use VLC by the way. Which can also grab frames.

Power DVD is a very poorly made software, that causes more problems that it's worth. (compatibility issues, crashong, freezing etc.)

VLC media player is, in my opinion, the best free DVD and video playing software available.
Wrongthinker and anticitizen one. Utterly untrustworthy. Pending removal to memory hole.

I use powerdvd I think it runs pretty good. But I got the new one. Powerdvd 9.
VLC is good free software for sure the best i think is Nero showtime. Extremely simple and good quality

Sounds like bad power settings unless your saying it freezes.

If it freezes then does Powerdvd freeze. Or the whole pc.

Power DVD, lol is that the one with the lightning intro splash screen or something? I remember it being a pain in the ass, but never locking up the machine. In fact, I remember most DVD player software to be a pain in the arse. Media Player seems to do just fine these days.

Ah, crap, m0ds! You changed your avatar!1

Hi all.

Isn't it just typical.
After defending Power DVD last night I have found that it Does crash my other comps. >:(
The same thing happens to all of them. Power dvd freezes and then locks the comp solid, not even able to move the mouse.

Think I will try VLC as suggested by you all.

Thanks.
Jay.
