Title: Let the games begin!
Post by: Ryan Timothy B on Mon 13/12/2010 00:36:53
Christmas time is nearing. Snow is here. People crowd around their fire or plopped on their couches watching cheesy Christmas tales. Well if I have anything to say against that, I'd be saying 'that's enough of that'!

It's time to play enjoyable games. Games that keep you challenged, laughing and well fed of anger. I'm introducing you to an old classic, a classic that every man and woman, son or daughter should have played at least once in their lifetime.

The game is called: Qwop.

(http://www.bryvis.com/entertainment/other/agsf/qwop-challenge.png) (http://www.foddy.net/Athletics.html)

If any one can successfully run like a normal human being, and not someone who belongs in the handicapped olympics, I'll be completely amazed by your skill.

Play the game here: http://www.foddy.net/Athletics.html
Or watch a funny video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmcMG4uxiHk) to get you pumped about playing this game.

Q & W control the thighs and O & P control the calves.

My personal best, at the moment, as you can see above, is 61.6m. Try and beat that! Once you get to the 50m mark, you'll come across hurdles. Oh boy they're fun!

Now go ignore your children, ignore the wife, don't take the dog for a walk, and play this game and play it well.

If you have any suggestions for other fun and frustrating must play flash/java games, shout them out.

Does this game require me to cross my eyes when playing? I am just assuming that will be a new fad soon.

How the hell did he get on the field? He's hammered!

He probably fell because he was busy scratching his ass.  :)

If it improves your running skills, then by all means. Although I hear that crossing your eyes actually makes his running spandex appear 3D, *ahem* ladies.

He's definitely had one too many. Or some kind of inner ear infection.  :-\

I think I might have cracked a rib watching that video. Funniest thing I have seen in awhile.  :)

I could not stop laughing.

Thanks, that video made my day!  :D

20 meters before I got bored.  Notice that qwop is just resting, not dead.  I could have kept this up all day.

It's just a matter of pressing leg+calf/leg+calf alternating quickly and he'll do a half assed run hop.

I made it all of 51.6 metres before getting stuck on that stupid hurdle.

The hop on one knee whilst extending the other leg outward technique does work wonderfully. :=

Eat my dust punks!

As you can see, I didn't even attempt to pass the hurdle, I simply dragged it along with me...
God, whoever created this game is a sadist (and I'm a masochist).

It kept knocking me backwards..=/

Edit: Managed to make it past the hurdle somehow..by going through it. Thought I was gonna fail at 75 metres when I accidentally stood up. For some reason..I didn't make it all the way though:

Stupid sign psyched me out. >:(

A very fun game is Crush the Castle (http://armorgames.com/play/3614/crush-the-castle). There's also a sequel (http://armorgames.com/play/6137/crush-the-castle-2) which seems to be quite similar.

It's always good for a laugh as the castle inhabitants often die in funny ways.

Haha. Thanks Matti! Crush the Castle was quite fun. Although once you get to the 2nd or 3rd level, you get the hang of when to click to release the ball. About half of the castles I destroyed with one shot (using clusters whenever they were available).

Later tonight I'll give the sequel a try. :P

Ryan:

If you run out of interesting levels: There's the possibility to create your own castles and there's also a "Players Pack" (http://armorgames.com/play/4552/crush-the-castle-players-pack).

Tears were streaming down my face as I watched that video at work. People were worried about me I think.
My personal best is 2.8m. Woo!

HATETRIS (http://qntm.org/files/hatetris/hatetris.html)

The Tetris that hates you.

It's incredibly difficult, my personal record is 9 lines. World record is an amazing 30.

Hatetris is frustrating alright. Fun idea though.

That was one of the best games ever!!!!

Here's an interesting game (not much fun but interesting concept):
Mr Destiny's adventure (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/553834)
Let's see if you can beat my whooping 5120 points!

That game is brilliant. lol Let's put a child on the back of a bike and have him bike around dangerous levels. Limbs flying, brains bursting, oh dear, I couldn't stop laughing. I only played 3 levels because the game had loading issues in the menu. I'll have to get back to it.

If I understand this game correctly, it only gives you the pieces you Don't need, correct? It was frustrating to all hell. Only got like 5 lines max. :P

I was actually thinking the game was glitching due to my computer or something. Damn that's odd. Each time I play it it results in the Exact movements each time. I also think the highest my score got was also 5120.

Any other must-play flash/java games?

So far Crush the Castle is my favourite from this thread, then QWOP since I find it so entertaining trying to learn it. I can nearly have him run normally just like a human, but I can't get past 30m or so with that method. I keep trying. The leg split like Progz has shown seems to be the easiest method, just slow.

Played both the Crush the castle games, and got all the achievements of the last one. That was fun. :D

So I was looking for some more flash games (for some relaxation, been pretty stressed lately :P)

Currently I've been playing KOHCTPYKTOP (http://www.zachtronicsindustries.com/play-kohctpyktop/). About the most complex flash game I've ever played.

For a bit lighter game and also humorous try This is the only level too (http://armorgames.com/play/5351/this-is-the-only-level-too). At first it looks like a platform game but it appears to be a puzzle game once you try it. It messes with your common game knowledge which is rather amusing :D.

Now my hands hurt. I just kept pressing QW & OP like there was no tomorrow.

Ouch, my poor hands, but it was worth it.  :)

I decided to play all the games made by Armor Games.

After playing the 3rd or 4th one, I came across this Factory Balls (http://armorgames.com/play/10001/factory-balls-the-christmas-edition).

(http://www.bryvis.com/entertainment/other/agsf/factory_balls.png) (http://armorgames.com/play/10001/factory-balls-the-christmas-edition)

As you can see I'm only currently at level 13 and still going. It's a pretty interesting idea.

You have to paint the balls with the colors on the left, and use the items on the right, in wacky combinations, to make the required design so you won't paint over what you've already done. It's definitely a nice Christmas game, and an interesting puzzle game too.

An old game I keep going back to is Nanaca Crash (http://megami.starcreator.com/nanaca-crash/).  Very weird, but simple.  It's got an anime feel to it, so if you hate that, stay away.

No idea.  My friend showed this to me like 5 years ago.  Instead of paying attention in his Programming lectures, he played this.  As far as I can tell, you get hit by a bike and try to land on girls to give you boosts.  Don't hit the girl with glasses (she ends the game) or the girl with black hair (she blocks power up girls, except in rare cases), and don't hit the dudes (they angle you up or down).  You have three red up power ups that you use when the word "Aerial" is red and can use a down power up if the "Aerial" is blue and the meter is at 100%.  The down power up recharges, but you only have three up power ups.  Scenario-wise, I have no idea what's going on at all.  I'm pretty sure that the entire country of Japan is just a surrealist piece by Salvador Dali that has continued on after his death.

I just got 4369.22 m.  A few years ago, I think I got around 5000.

A friend of mine introduced me to this little flash game called Evacuation (http://www.foddy.net/Evacuation.html). Very simple concept, yet it gets quite challenging.

This is literally the coolest and most impressive concept I've seen for a flash game. I fully recommend checking it out. Especially if you like Crayon Physics.

It's called Ice Breaker (http://armorgames.com/play/5347/ice-breaker). You take slices out of the ice to rescue the vikings.

I played a little bit of Ice Breaker on my lunch break. It was pretty cool, but I really loved the music.
