I'm confused... why are "thread games" against the rules of the forum and get locked. I can't see anything against them in the rules posting...

Because their content consists entirely of either one or two word replies. ZING!!!1

If Mornington Crescent is played properly, each move should be accompanied by a long winded explanation of the "one or two word reply". e.g.

Parson's Green

Using mortimer?s 2nd amendment so that once Parsons Green has been declared forces play along the Great Western axis, obliging players to sacrifice Seven Sisters in order to prise open their opponent?s laterals.

??? I don't see the aim of this game.

Your explaination is even more baffling than your reply.

What are the rules to this game, and the point, if either even exist?

Parson's Green, Mortimer's 2nd amendment, Great Western Axis, Seven Sisters?

wtf? is this something that is only played by edinburgh smack addicts? or does the rest of the country join in?

After some googling, it seems to me that the concept Mornington Crescent is closely related to that behind Calvinball. Looks like it could be fun with good players.

Don't tell me you people have NEVER played Mornington Crescent! HA n0000bs

DragonRose

Argh! Neither of those sites actually explains the dang game! They just say everyone must have played it, so they won't waste our time explaining the rules!

QuoteThere cannot be anyone in the civilised world who does not already know the basic rules of Mornington Crescent, so we shall not insult our readers by re-iterating them here.
I think that website just insulted me.
EDIT: By the way, what is this Mornington Crescent thing? Is it some kinda English game or something? I've never even heard of it.

Archangel (aka SoupDragon)

Okok, here goes:

The idea of Mornington Crescent is to travel the UK railways to get to Mornington Crescent station.

That is the ONLY rule. Well no, in fact there is one other rule, and that is that there ARE NO RULES. The general idea is that the game is played in the style of a card/board game, with each player thinking up absurd cards to play. For example, in one game I participated in, one person eventually won by playing a card which shifted space-time 5 miles to the right, meaning that instead of being in King's Cross he ended up in Mornington Crescent.

Oh.
Do you have to know where (or what) Morningtown Crescent station is to play? Because I honestly don't have a clue. Besides I'm assuming that it's a railroad station of some sort.

Fuzzpilz

Ha! I guessed* right. It is based on the same principle as Calvinball.

*) actually, I googled for it and read the links properly, and it's completely obvious, you silly people :P (no offence meant)

Archangel (aka SoupDragon)

Bob: there is no "railroad" (I assume you mean railway :P ) station called Mornington Crescent, it's fictional. A basic knowledge of the major UK stations is helpful but by no means neccessary.

Las Naranjas

Just to add something of fibre to this thread, I know there are many much vaunted stations in the world, but I don't think any come near the brilliance of mindaribba station.
